What 45 is good for home defense?
>>
>>27906943

are you talking about ammo or a gun? Any .45 that can accept a weaponlight should be OK for home defense use, extra points if you suppress it.

For ammo, I prefer Federal HST 230gr, really good, reliable expansion and penetration.
>>
>>27906961
What is a relatively decently priced, reliable choice in a handgun chambered in 45?
>>
>>27906961
Federal hst BONDED hollow points and a +p round never hurts.

I sense the .460 rowland is coursing through your veins anon.
>>
>>27906978
Springfield xd is about to become the new vp9.
>>
>>27906978

Depends on your budget and personal preference. I prefer double-stack striker fired guns so the Glock 21 or Glock 40 would be my first choices and they're not stupid expensive. For a hammer-fired gun, the FNX45, USP45, HK45, and Sig P220 are all excellent as well but can be pricey.
>>
>>27906961
>>27906978
So to be clear, I was talking about a gun
>>
>>27906999
Cough cough, Springfield xd, cough cough, hs 2000
>>
>>27906999
Seconding this.

Glock 21 is probably your best "Bang for buck" gun, as they can be had for around 500.

There are also 1911s, but it really depends on your definition of "Decent" and "Reliable".
>>
>>27906943
any opinons on preferred barrel length? Thinking about a commander size 1911.
>>
>>27906978

HK USP Tactical with an Silencer Co. Osprey suppressor is an affordable choice for home defense.
>>
>>27907019

Well, for home defense there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to get a short barrel. All you're doing is sacrificing velocity (and reliability in the case of some 1911s) for no reason.
>>
>>27907019
>Commander Size 1911.

There's very little point if it's just for the home.

For the home, you want as big as comfortable, as many rounds as possible, with a rail for a light.

Because you really should be using a long gun for home defense, but whatever moats your goat.
>>
>>27907022
>HK USP Tactical
He asked for something relatively decent priced

Unless you're referring to police trade-ins

I like the Springfield XDMs and the FNX 45s. They both fit my hands much better than the Glock 21.
If you get a regular FNX45 and not the tactical, they aren't that expensive.

>HST Bonded
>mfw that doesn't exist

Federal Tactical Bonded isn't the same as Federal Tactical HST.

Bonded is similar to a Gold Dot, holds up well through glass and plywood, but doesn't expand so good.

HST gets some weight loss through the harder stuff but the expansion is monstrous.

In the lower price range, XD over Glock any day I have shot both side by side on several occasions. If you have the cash however, I would recommend the XDM.

Tis true, its bonded to the lead but not a bonded hollow point, tis jacketed.

>>

>The HST bullets are not bonded. Instead Federal Premium uses a mechanical locking of the jacket to the core.

Locking works fine for sheet steel, etc but you do lose bits and pieces when punching through glass or lots of bone. That's why bonded bullets are preferred by most Highway Patrol/State Police agencies over standard mechanically locked bullets.

>and those who use the metric system
doesn't NASA use metric because it's easier to use?
>>
>>27907390
Yeah but they didn't put a man on the moon, AMERICA DID.
NASA 0
AMERICA 1
>>
>>27907390
NASA uses metric because it is the standard system in STEM fields.
>>
Seems like Americans can deal with both systems and us Europoors only with the metric system.
>>
>>27907384
That's why i said i prefer bonded.
But i also perfer hst rounds. Never shot one into somebody, but ive seen the ballistics. I thought they were bonded, i was mistaken.

Work on a '90s American car and you'll get real good at it. Some parts are SAE and others for no rhyme or reason are suddenly metric.

That could easily be a fact though.

It's the same on modern cars. Also SAE doesn't determine whether a part is metric or imperial.

I'd imagine that +p HP's allways hurt desu, that's kind of the whole point, right?

The USP 45 has a great reputation, as do the Sig P220 and P227. FN FNX 45 has a great magazine capacity (15 rounds).

Striker fired pistols like the Glock 21 and M&P 45 are good as well. The Ruger SR-45 is cheaper, but I find the trigger is good for fast shooting.

You really can't go wrong with any of these.
>>
This.

http://youtu.be/7bLonprIWm4

You'll need a revolver with a long enough cylinder..

But that ammo is INSANE
>>
>>27907419
Exactly, why limit yourself if you can understand both? The hicks I deal with don't get metric and derp until I translate. Euros see imperial and go vegan-tier.

Anyway, I have a Glock 21, 1911 compact and a USP45. The Glock is my nightstand gun, the USP is next to my couch and the 1911 is in the safe because it keeps jamming.
