Honestly it didn't hurt nearly as much as I expected it to. I was deaf for a good 5 minutes but it just gave me a slight ear ache. The only other time I've heard a round go off without hear protection was a judge 357 at the range when my friend didn't know the back door was open. That hurt unbelievably bad.

I only found the casing and where I'm assuming it went through but I'm confused as to why the hole is so small. If I spread it with my fingernails it's about half the diameter of the caliber. Shouldn't it be at least 9mm big?

I just now went back. As soon as I fired it I grabbed the casing which was on my passenger seat no where near where the barrel was pointed and went inside. Went back out after anon asked for picture. My roomate is sound asleep and my windows were all closed so I'm guessing I'm okay. Car is 2004 ford winstar.

There's pretty much only one way for that "system" to work.
It's just an array of microphones. Even if they have an algorithm to sort out noise, if they are really tracking amplitudes as low as subsonic pistol or rifle fire then you could set it off by walking near it.

It likely picks up false readings all the time. Car accidents, construction, garbage trucks, etc. What they'd be listening for is multiple shots fired since this is a distinctive repeating sound pattern.

Cars are actually REALLY good cover. There's a reason why when the cops shot at the Toyota with two Asian women in them in LA, the two Asian women survived: There's a SHITLOAD of stuff in cars that cause bullets to go sideways or stuck before hitting any place else.
That said, OP should check if his bullet got lodged in an internal part of the car. If there's any damage to the system, the car might be dangerous to drive.
Back when I was younger, (AKA 3 years ago...), I fired a 26.5mm green flare out of a Polish army flare pistol in a preppy neighborhood. (It was the only place with a large lake to fire it over. Didn't want to accidentally burn down a forest). It was as loud as you'd expect but the cops were never actually called. I assume that they thought it was just a firework.
