It's good stuff desu. I worked at Plant 2, the heart of production. Quality control is outstanding. We once held about 4 tons of lasagna because our third metal detecting station MIGHT have given us a false positive. Thats easily half a million dollars worth of product that they threw away to make sure no one got hurt. However, they treat the employees like garbage.
>>
>>27781458
I actually bought my first mountain house the other day just to try it. Got the biscuits and gravy. Surprisingly good.
>>
>>27779305

>>
>>27782659
No, but we are hiring people with a PhD in Gender Studies. High demand stuff I gotta admit.
>>
>>27782701
Fuck, I fell for the STEM trap and now I have this worthless engineering degree. I should have majored in film critique or philosophy.
>>
>>27782734
Philosophy is what prospective law school kids major in, so it should not be made fun of (Philosophy is English + unreal amount of logic and reasoning)

But yeah, Gender studies and film critique is shit.

>>
>>27782775
It's the joke it is now, not because philosophy is especially bad, but because it used to require much more hard work and critical thinking. Many universities no longer offer courses outside of 300-series postmodernist ideological conditioning.
>>
Why does the rice actually taste so similar to cardboard.
Not as in 'this tastes bland', as in it actually has a similar taste.

>>
>>27779305

>>
>>27779305
Why don't you put a fill line in your pouches? That and why don't you make the compact ones packaging fold conformally instead of sticking out and generally being a pain in the ass to pack without taking up almost as much space and a normal serving? Lastly would you ever consider making a nutritionally fortified version? I'm not saying you use bad ingredients I know you guys make a good product. I'm just wondering if you would ever consider making one mainly for maximum calories and complex nutrition? Fortified with say TVP/keenwah for extra protein and fiber and vitamins/minerals. You could package them in a stack of hockey puck shaped single servings sized to fit in a 18 ounce cup to
re-hydrate. I would buy the fuck out of them if you double packed them in basically a cross between your number 10 can and a Pillsbury roll container. 9 super compact lightweight meals with a 25 year shelf life and full balanced nutrition for fighting off skinwalkers that can be field striped when happening's happen and fit in my BOB. Where am I fucking up with this idea I feel pretty good about this one so I fully expect to get shit on for it? Also I'm not trying to be shitty with the first two questions genuinely curious. I mean if pick related is what your up against you guy would kick their asses wholesale.

Picked up a pack of the Mountain House Pad Thai at Bass Pro prior to turkey hunting, just for the hell of it based on suggestions over on /out/ that it was the best of the bunch and it tasted like absolute shit.
>>
>>27787481
you got lucky, Pad Thai is a godsend compared to the other foods they have. And that says something because their Pad Thai tastes like cardboard and watery peanut butter
>>
>>keenwah
>>
>>27782901
The rice is real, can't really tell you why it would taste that way.
>>
>>27782816
What did you expect?
>>
>>27783055
The value of the food itself is fairly low, they arent bottom of the line ingredients though. The price comes from the commodity, and the fact that the whole place is extremely specialized. You won't find chambers like ours anywhere else. They are the size of box cars and the vacuum in there brings the air content down to about 100 O2 molecules for the whole thing,
>>
>>27783740
Beef stroganoff is hard to fuck up for anyone, and we do it pretty well I think.
>>
>>27787481
I didn't even know we made pad thai... try the breakfast skillet, and dont add too much water. you can add more, you cant take any out.
>>
>>27786053
I mostly worked with the pouch meals, that do as far as I'm aware have a fill line. Maybe you have older ones? I can't speak for the cans. The nutritional value as far as vitamins and minerals isnt much of a concern with the doctrine of making emergency food. It has a lot of calories, sugars and proteins to keep you on your feet. Its the same formula we send to the military, lots of caloric value in a small space. Also, quinoa is really fuckin expensive.
>>
>>27782659
I'm a floor monkey. They're always hiring, but the QA and desk jobs seem fairly full. If you do hire on, expect good money, benefits, dickhead co workers, terrible management and backbreaking labor.
>>
>>27783055
But if i had to throw a number at you, just in raw materials about a buck fiddy. don't quote me.
>>
>>27779575
To answer your question, this food is made on an industrial scale. Think school lunch for marines and /K/ommandos. To meet demand, we have to pump out many tons DRY WEIGHT a day. With that in mind, the method of cooking has to be conducive to that sort of scale. Most of the ingredients are mixed and cooked in a large vat and poured down onto trays where they go into the cold rooms. from there, they hit the chambers. then they are processed depending on the type of food. the ingredients are of decent quality and the whole facility is about the cleanest thing next to Mother Teresa's criminal record, but keep in mind that almost all of the food is boiled, then flash frozen, then stuffed into an almost perfect vacuum and chilled to -150 for many hours. try that with cordon bleu and it may taste off.
>>

bullshit.
I put some up in a closet and it went expired by about a year.
I thought fuck it, I'm hungry and tried to make and eat it anyway.
It tasted like shit and made me not feel good.
That stuff is go bad if out of date and it's sodium is too much.
How so much cholesterol in egg product anyway? No way is real egg have that much cholesterol.
I'm not fucking kidding about the sodium either, stop it!
Coleman is best freeze dried food anyway. Coleman!

>>
>>27788740
its relatively average for Canadian prices, Its just that I got a few of them at another store that was closing so I got a really good deal, which is why when I last bought some I thought the low price was standard
>>
>>27788568
>the cleanest thing next to Mother Teresa's criminal record

Mother Teresa committed massive financial fraud and illegally withheld information from multiple government inquiries.
>>
>>27788744
Idk what time period you got yours from, but shelf life on them bitches is 12 years from the day its made. Of course it's not eternal, it IS organic matter. The eggs are real, the cholesterol likely comes from the butter that is in them. as far as the sodium goes, its probably a good alternative to other more harmful preservatives. And it seems to me that with high blood pressure and cholesterol issues, you may want to get in shape before SHTF instead of complaining about the content of unhealthy ingredients in the food. Seriously, cardio. a nuke or invading zipperhead is statistically like a bajillion times less likely to kill you than heart disease.
>>
>>27788768
But you DID get my point, right?
>>
>>27788790
Whoa buddy! I bought food for section hike of AT.
I have eaten Max Patch mac and cheese on Max Patch bald.
The blood pressure is hereditary, I used to run like 4 miles a day, was actually in great shape with a resting heart rate of 55bpm and still had a blood pressure of 140/90.
I'm older and fatter now and on Diovan not that it matters because my blood pressure still hangs around 140/90.

I've just cut most of the sodium out of my diet, now everything tastes salty as fuck and when I read the label (like I always do) and it has like 5000% of daily recommended sodium, It's a pretty big turn off.

>12 years
Well, maybe it was a different brand. It was in a bluish bag or may have been on their shelf for 9 years before I bought it... I guess.
>>
>>27779305
Why so salty.

All mass produced food will have someinsect matter in it, that's why govts allow for a .x% of it. Plus insects are good food. 10KG animal feed = 1kg beef or 9kg crickets plus crickets are 72%protein to beefs 52%. lean plus lots of vitamins, it's the future. Ask the UN.
