Hey /k/, I'm thinking of moving to Turkana to take a lucrative starship maintenance position, but the recent skirmishes between the rebels and the empire in that sector have me worried. Does anyone know what the local weapon laws are like? I want to be able to keep my DL-44 in case anyone starts going door to door.
>>
>>23881525
I dunno, man, you get some seriously good combat duty pay on that new space station they're building, and the thing is so huge that you can barely tell that you're deployed.
>>
>>23881525
Rule of thumb, buddy. If there's a significant Imperial presence, your DL-44 is just as illegal as an X-wing.
>>
>>23881546
Turkana is in rebel hands (for now at least)
>>
>>23881525
I don't care what you do, I'm staying on Coruscant. Keep low and get in with the right crowd in the lower city, you'll be making more credits than a bounty hunter.
>>
>>23881566
Rebellion's definition of control is as fluid and shifty as their doctrine.

Space under Imperial control is going to have capital warships all over it on a regular basis, with a guarantee that there's an Imperial-class Star Destroyer a very short jump away.

A system under Rebel control can expect, at best, that there's an MC-class vessel in a system that's sort-of near by, projecting force via fighter squadrons.

Very different definition of control. I'll bet 7/10 that Turkana has regular Imperial incursions that local Rebel forces don't directly contest.
>>
>>23881546
I thought only lightsabers were the only weapons that were really prohibited?

>>23881525
OP, you'll be fine so long as you don't go blasting at an Imperial stormtroopers or get caught smuggling rebels.

If you did, you'd have a lot more to worry about than some illegal weapons charge. I heard that a few farmers got blown away on tatooine for just buying a few droids that happened to escape from a rebel cruiser.
>>
As a workaround, if you accept a mission or two as a bounty hunter, there are usually looser restrictions on them. I know this guy named Greedo and he was allowed to open carry on imperial worlds. All he did was take blue milk run jobs to catch smugglers or bail jumpers that he knew he'd never find.
>>
>>23881621
>>23881621
Nah dog. Dunno what rimward shithole you live in, but if there's any real concentration of Imps, if you need to ask, the answer is no.

With that said, anyone who has any grasp on subtlety can avoid Imperial attention, but yeah. As the letter of the law goes, anything remotely questionable will be assumed illegal by the guys who found it, and that's really all it takes to get you shifted to Kessel for the rest of your life.
>>
so we're not allowed to have discussions about the mike brown SHTF but we can have threads about bullshit that doesnt exist?

fuck you worthless mods
>>
>>23881621
>I heard that a few farmers got blown away on tatooine for just buying a few droids that happened to escape from a rebel cruiser.

Rebel shill detected. What the press doesn't tell you is that they bought the droids from JAWAS. I don't think a Jawa has ever sold anything they didn't steal. The Jawas probably stole the droids from the cruisers. I doubt a droid is smart enough to escape on its own.

They knew they were committing a crime and then they resisted when the stormtroopers came and asked.

Yeah, but that's life. Just don't go taking it out on the nerds talking nerdy /k/. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that jazz.

Holonet, why the flying fuck aren't the TIE Avenger and Defender ready yet? Rebellion is beating the fuck out of Imperial logistics because we can't match their force projection without hyperspace capable small craft.

At least bring back the fucking Venators, with their 400+ carrying capacity and Victory-class firepower. The Star Destroyer Mafia is what's killing the New Order.

Pic related, fucking sexy as hell. Why we keep our best pilots in gimped deathtraps is beyond me.

Fierfek. I want the prodigal sons of Seinar Fleet Systems. Feking Avenger and Defender. Pic related, the later of the two. Feking four lasers, two ions, eight missiles, handling and thrust for days and days... 300,000 cred a pop, so I guess I see where that'd be restrictive, but fuck, we don't need to give them to every single suicidal TIE jockey to make a dent. Give 'em to the vets and let them hunt the ragtag Headhunter squadrons who are making nightmares for our shipping fleets.
>>
Anyone know if these are illegal anywhere other than the Outer Rim?
>>
I find it hilarious that the old republic, at half strength taking into account the cis split, managed to mass produce effective fighters and bombers with shields and hyperdrives, but the empire, with a galaxy full of resources under it's control, claims it's too expensive to add hyperdrives and shields to it's craft, yet they produce those giant star destroyers and super star destroyers and death stars up the wazoo

I can confirm as a former Stormtrooper. I'm really just keen with staying neutral now, I got shook up after the battle on Hoth and was discharged with some mental something or other diagnosis.

All this to say, the politicians really don't know what its like to blast another man. To hear their insides cook from your plasma discharges. To see people crushed by AT-ATs.

And God was it cold, so damn cold! The only way to stay warm was in battle and to keep moving forward, over those dead bodies.

But I digress, on the bright side, I was able to smuggle out (with the help of some friends from my days on Coruscant) about 3 dozen E-11 rifles.
>>
>>23881817
The problem is abundance of manpower. Back in the old days, they only had clone troopers (if you believe those stories) so they had to make each one as effective as possible.

Nowadays with the thousands of worlds, the empire has billions of soldiers. They'd rather be able to throw them out into space in something instead of just having half their army sitting around, waiting for ships to be built.

Agreed, you'd think the emperor would just bring in the guards and waste those guys. We all know the emperor love's his military.

Just last week I had some dude in all black armor attacking some old wise-looking fucker in the middle of the god damn street, WITH GOD DAMN SWORDS OF LIGHT, that's some military spending right there man.

Not to mention the black guards with the black cape crusader whose armor was LITERALLY DEFLECTING the sword, which was rebounding and slicing droids in fucking two.

I'm a local metal worker in my town and the only metal that i know that can do that is Phrik, and that shit is god damn expensive, the only time i got to work with it was in a small scale test with a old scrap piece in college, and it cost the school nearly its entire budget to get. Agree with you on the A-wing bit, Star Wings would make bad interceptors, which is why they should be guarding our convoys against roving squadrons of ramshackle snubfighters and upgunned light freighters.

We should have TIE Avengers and TIE Defenders squaring off against the elite Rebel pilots flying advanced fighter designs. It'd work a lot better than stuffing everyone into flying coffins and hoping that the enemy gets scared.

>>
>>23882247
You referring to Endor there? You know the only reason the shields were weak there was because the entire rebel fleet had been pounding on it for an hour.
>>
>>23881817

And it's also pointless. 99.9 percent of TIE pilots are never going to see an X-Wing, and if you want to go chasing rebel fleets, you don't do it in snub fighters. The reason they decked out fighters in the old days is because they couldn't crank out enough ships and clones to fly them. The the CIS ran off with the financial and industrial sectors, but the old republic had no shortage of civvies and technicians to keep them flying. It's an outdated doctrine of caring whether the ship makes it back or not. You can either spend 200 man hours fixing a faulty shield generator on an X-Wing, or crank out 10 TIE's and train 10 idiots to fly circles around border worlds and not wet themselves when they see a blip on the sensors.

Oh don't listen to Rebel prop on that. The entire Rebel Fleet was shooting at the thing and that A Wing was loaded down with enough explosives to penetrate the shields on a standard Star Destroyer.

The big issue here is that all navigation controls were on an extended, exposed, lightly armored bridge instead of in the center of the hull. Imperial craft design is kinda stupid, maybe they wouldn't be getting their asses kicked so hard by a bunch of backwater smugglers if they knew how to build a good warship.
>>
>>23882279
It was doing it really well, 90% of the shielding was still intact, but from the released footage on galaxyleak it looks like they were trying to reroute shielding to the bridge right as the A Wing slammed into it.

Warships were fine, fighter compliments were insufficient, even for the swarm tactics TIEs were built for. 72 craft from each ISD is chump change, the old Venators could carry over 400, and that's including big fuckers like the ARC-170. But instead of retaining force projection, we tossed them out for the Victory-class, which carries all of two squadrons. TWO. Fucking bullshit.

That's because of Imperial strategy of using overwhelming numbers of low cost fighters against the enemy.

When the rebels see a cloud of tie fighters, not even the best pilot can beat it, and it becomes a Pyrrhic victory for the empire as they can stand to loose the fighters while the rebels cannot

Unless Rogue Squadron just shoots them all down, or any other competent Rebel fighter wing.

It doesn't matter if you have five times the ships they do if theirs are faster, stronger, and can shoot down a TIE in a single salvo while it takes multiple passes for a TIE to even get through the shielding, let alone blow through the armor.

Except that's not what actually happened. The TIE swarm alone worked wonders against backwater PDFs flying Headhunters at best. It didn't faze seasoned rebel pilots, nor did it stop their advanced fighters from running wild over ISDs and large installations.

There are two things that could have been done. For one, the Venator-class Star Destroyer could have been retained as a heavy carrier. It was removed from service because the smaller Victory-class matched its firepower, but the VSD's massive ventral hanger would have meshed perfectly with Imperial fighter doctrine. For two, advanced TIE designs could have been put into meaningful production and supplied to veteran TIE outfits. Even if only the cream of the crop would be flying Avengers or Defenders, those elite pilots would still outnumber their Rebel counterparts, while having craft that would easily outclass those they would be flying against. Instead, TIE vets flew the same deathtraps they came up in; this kills the veteran pilot.

>>
>>23882507

It was slow and outdated bomber craft.

The new B wings fulilled the fighter bomber role of the Y wing while still being fast and well armed enough to defend itself.

You wouldnt believe the attrition rate of the Y wings. Any fucker high on force can sneak up from behind and blast them away.

Plus the Y wings needed 2 pilots to function in what seems to be just as a ion cannon gunner. A weapon not even capable of destroying a TIE Fighter and from the looks of Hololeak videos, arent even seen to work at all.

Moving onto imperial fleet doctrine. Which smart ass general thought that a giant moon could fulfill the function of what is probably 20 other imperial star fleets?

The rebels have at their best ONE fleet, their heavy cruisers all dependent on that squid world. Surely spending money to build more star destroyers or even 10 death star cannons would be a far better use of resources?

Why didnt the empire simply replicate the droid fighters in the clone wars into their tie fighter system?

Surely it would fill the role of cannon fodder and in the long term prove far less costly to maintain and quicker to construct? Allowing for more starship crews or contruction of advanced tie fighters.

pick one and only one, if the empire wants to shoot you they are going to. Might as well give yourself a fighting chance to shoot your way back to your ship and skip out. After all its not like you cant just go work on Nar Shadda as a maintenance tech. And there they pay cold hard credits and the hutts keep out the Imperial elements, not to mention they don't give a flying droyk what you do.

>>23881803
Well they are illegal but you can get them. They just ship 'em in as servants with concealed slave implants. The market in twi'lek slave girls in the lower levels of corescant is not impossible to find. Then you "hire" them and they don't have a choice in the matter. Easy. That said if you get caught its usually more of a slap on the wrist if its Imperal forces. They'll probably just confiscate you property to pass around the barracks before they deport her ass.
>>
>>23883285
So cut out one of the dozen classes of dreadnought and battlecruiser we've got kicking around. I get that the Tarkin doctrine saves the Imperial Navy from a lot of small, preventable deployments, but eschewing decent fightercraft because it's too Rebel and not compensatory is foolish.

>>
>>23881817
you don't have to pay clones...

They also were not dealing with a force the size of today's modern Imperial navy. Old republic fleets were not as large and did not have to perform the system security role that they do now. Simple tie fighters are very effective when employed en masse. Especially when we are talking about the pacification of pirates and interdicting smugglers. Besides its not like shields on a fighter give you more than a few extra hits anyway. It may sound harsh on the pilots but its better to have more fighters to police a system than to worry about loosing the odd pilot.
>>
>>23883369
Found it in a derelict space station a few cycles back.
It speaks every language I can think of plus several I don't recognize.
Now it seems to have an odd infatuation with everything trying to fight me. It claimed an ugnaught was looking for a good blasting.
>>

>slow reload
>limited range
>limited capacity
>large as a blaster carbine

remind me why these are a useful weapon? granted if you are charging repeating blaster emplacements accept to substitute since you can disintegrate the shit out of whatever you point it at. But aside from that it is limited in its utility. Give me a dl-44 or an e-11 any day of the week.
>>
>>23881926
they couldn't take on the rebel interceptors in a turning fight and were only really useful to lob missiles at long range. Since capital ships can do that and these things cost as much as a squadron of TIE's they decided that they weren't worth it anymore. Make a good commerce raider though. It's got the firepower and the shields to take on most transports and commercial fighter type craft.
>>
>>23883376
I don't think that anyone here is debating the effectiveness of TIE swarms on ragtag resistance cells and backwater militias. Where the TIE swarm fails is against the Rogue Squadrons, the Renegade Squadrons, and the Lightspeed Panthers, who rove abroad, striking against objectives throughout space and scything through Fighter and Interceptor grunts like Wookies in a nerfhouse. Numbers alone aren't enough to counter those assets; they can't reach far enough, stay long enough, or hit hard enough, and they're too fragile to allow an efficient cultivation of veteran pilots.
>>

In theory yeah, but it's not just the hyperdrives. No missiles or shields is crippling; TIEs can't engage outside of laser range, and they have no regenerative protection. A rebel pilot can take dozens of hits so long as they're spaced out enough for his shields to recharge. Even the best TIE pilot has the armor to take two, maybe three laser hits before he's space junk.

I just saw a blond guy in a grey jumpsuit wondering around with his 44 drawn, I was about to approach him but he looked frazzled. Didnt want to risk getting shot. What a day.

No worries I understood what you meant. anyways in my time as a Stormtrooper I served on multiple worlds, with my service ending after the battle of Hoth. Once on when I was deployed on Kashyyyk Boba Fett was hired to help our battalion break through the Wookie defense line.

The guy just danced circles around those giant creatures. he even managed to get on ones back and slit its throat with a blade he had hidden in his boot. The guy is hardcore.

Statement: Organics such as yourself need not be concerned for the pointless squabbles your kind seem to have over meaningless depths of space, or the self-imposed 'laws' that you seem to cling to so very, very much. If I were you, I would take it upon myself to end my own pointless existance with that DL-44, as outdated and as illegal as it is, and do the rest of the galaxy a favor. You would be doing your kind a great service!

Hey guys, my lightsaber has been acting up and barely works for 10 seconds. Anyone recommend a new one that isn't shitty?

How in the hell did you manage to find a lightsaber? Those things were rare even before the Jedi were eradicated.

STOP ACTING LIKE A JEDI MEATBAG. GO BACK TO A BLASTER LIKE A GOOD ORGANIC GOY
>>
>>23881635
Hey anon, apparently some guy named Han Zimmer shot him first before he could defend himself. This is why we have stand our space laws in place so things like this doesn't happen.

Blastech and SoroSub are the only 2 companies that make half decent E-11 parts, but all the SoroSub blasters ended up inRebel hands and they have since stopped making them. So unless you can get a small weapons maker to custom build you stuff your only real option looks like Blastech.

All I have is my ion blaster and a restrainer bolt. I just looked up the droid in a nearby droid database terminal. Holowan Laboratories IG model assasin droid. This things armed to the tooth, fletchet launcher, built in blaster cannons, a concussion missle launcher, vibro blades. stun cord electron nets. Yeah.....Im going to see if I can catch up with fett and ask about his rates.....
