Ever.

Archeologists found honey in Egyptian tombs that was still edible.

I'm stockpiling triolet paper, little do people value something they use everyday for almost their entire lives. You will have honey, I will have the most premium triolet paper which will be pratically gold after a month of two when poop hits the fan when everyone's buttholes get rashes and infected that they seal shut.
>>
>>21891977
Because my family already sells honey and has a ton of bee hives
>>
>>21892010
Yeah, what's good to wipe your butt with when tp runs out?
>>
>>21891989
I keep a couple bottles of regular bear honey around but I usually pick up local brands also. Unless you live in Antarctica you have local hives that will sell honey at farmers markets or people your dad knows as you say.

>>21891994
Honey helps cuts heal faster and yeah on some over time you can scrape that off and use it to disinfect. It also helps prevent a wound from becoming infected after you've cleaned it out.

>>21891997
Exactly

>>21891992
Not if you have it in stable containers. And bugs you can use for bait or you can eat them.

I like small bits of comb. I'm chewing some at the moment. Mexican honey and its not too bad but nothing fantastic. I do wish I could get some dark though.

>>21892058
Until the mead runs out, but you can't put mead with oatmeal and have it work that well. It gets too watery and not sugary enough.
>>

>>
>>21892089
Eh, I'll stick with brewing. I just like to brew mead for myself. Brewing would be a profitable and relatively easy way to turn a buck (turn a trade?).
>any fruit
>2 packets of turbo-yeast
>5 gallon carboy/airlock
>Introducing Hoochpocalypse! Does it taste good? No! Is it carbonated? No! Is it chilled? No! Does it get you drunk? You betcha!

Last Christmas I followed a recipe which requires burnt honey and a blueberry base, it's supposed to be really good. Can't wait until this Christmas to open it up.
>>
>>21892121
No. Yes you can join but not as bullet bait. You may think you have no skills but you do. You just don't know you do. Come with me and I'll see what you can do and put you to work doing it better than anyone else.

>>21892074
It can also preserve things. And if the Coyote does not make off with the mouse you have a crunchy snack. But I'd rather not and shoot and cottontail and steak that out then call the Coyote in. Or just eat the Cottontail and forget the Coyote. I've eaten Coyote, its not worth eating.
>>
>>21892106
Or one big container but smaller containers is easily to process the end product (won't clump together)

>>21892105
When saturated from inside of the body the honey reacts and gives off a distinct scent that most carnivores will find irresistible. Without it, it just smells like carrion dipped in honey.
>>
>>21892147
The trick is to only put it in long enough for it to chemically reaction but not long enough to preserve it. You should take it out and let it aerate after a certain point (depends on temperature and size of bait). That was made specifically for an anon with a coyote problem but works for basically all carnivores, especially mammalian.
>>
>>21892046
>>21892046

>>21892186
Oh, yeah, it's great. Dangerous, though, like you said. Tastes so sweet you keep drinking because it's like drinking juice.

The worst hangover I've ever had was from two bottles of cherry mead I made last year. I woke up with a knife behind my eyes, ugh.

Let me join your collective. I can brew and rack at night and blacksmith during the day. I'd need an extra set of hands to make charcoal, though.
>>
>>21892191

Most store bought honey only has enough actual honey in it to be called Honey. It will go bad, It isn't 100% real honey
>>
>>21892197
God damn it, not like that... after the first day.

A lot of people I run into think they can't do a damn thing. That they have no useable skills and don't know anything. I've yet to run into one of them that does not have some basic or even advanced understanding of a skill that allows them to repair, manufacture or rework something. Mostly its simple stuff like cooking or cleaning but sometimes its crazy things like bomb making or securing data. Everyone can do something, they just may not know they can do it.

>triolet
>A triolet (/?traJ.?l?t/ or US /?tri?.??leJ/) is a stanza poem of eight lines. Its rhyme scheme is ABaAabAB and often all lines are in iambic tetrameter: the first, fourth and seventh lines are identical, as are the second and final lines, thereby making the initial and final couplets identical as well.

Fuck, how will I write my poems?

I've recently started to wonder about the "never goes bad" perk Honey is supposed to have.

A couple years ago we had bought a little container of honey from the local Food Lion and after another year or so, half of the honey appeared to be hard and coagulated.

But hey, it doesn't go bad right? It smelt fine, it even still tasted fine despite how it looked.

Everyone who ate any of that honey ended up vomiting without fail within the next 6 hours. What the hell happened to it?
>>
>>21894514
Would kill you. Water would get sucked out of your body into the honey.
>>
>>21894536
Something else you ate with the honey was contaminated.

Possible, but unlikely; the honey was filled with toxins, which do not necessarily require bacteria. (For instance, if someone poured coolant into your honey.)
>>
>>21894536
If you read some of the other posts earlier they talk about how most "store honey" has very little of it actually made up of honey, the rest is just filler basically.

It's pretty ridiculous. They throw in a lot of water, then whatever additives they can get away with on top of that.

If your honey is golden, liquidy and clear, it's probably not real honey. Picture related, it's real honey. It's more like peanut butter than syrup.

No reason it can't be everything, its not really hard to brew if you got he right shit and know how to.
If you want it carbonated just put it in a bottle and screw the cap on, if the fermentation process is complete you can add sugar/honey to get it going again.
Then it will ferment some more and you will get stronger brew with more bubbles.

Which is what you shouldn't be doing to honey, because it isn't necessary in any way, shape, or form.

On top of that, the majority of the pasteurized honey, as I mentioned already, can barely be called real honey. During the pasteurization process they add a bunch of shit to the honey to dilute it down.

That's why, if you buy honey in the store, you should be buying creamy raw honey unless you know for a fact that the pasteurized stuff hasn't been watered down.

Of course by then its become rock candy but it is still perfectly edible after thousands of years.

Wine will also last more or less forever if stored properly.

I remember Jacques Cousteau finding a sealed amphora of ancient Greek or Roman wine
on the bottom of the Mediterranean and while it didn't taste particularly good, it was still safe
to drink and he and his crew drank a few glasses.

You're an idiot, wine becomes thick like marmelade after a few centuries. That's what Cousteau ate, a thick paste. While it can still be safe to eat, the taste would be anything from suboptimal to horrible because it aged too much.

Good old Bordeaux that is best when x years old is often awfull young, for example. And altough nobody really knows, it probably sucks at 2x old as well.

I think about this too, and what a good SHTF basic chemistry set-up would be, because I've already got some essentials.
Already have: ~300 acres of farmland with a river, wellhouse etc. However the wellpump is electric off the grid, which is a problem. But there is a tractor, a barn, and a house. So the next step in a set-up to really 'bring civilization back', in a really Foundation by Asimov way, would be a power source, huge amount of computer storage (downloaded wikipedia, information, etc.), machine shop capability, and basic chemical activity. From there it would be necessary to stockpile raw metals and chemicals.

If you want something that will disinfect and help heal wounds, I've got a trick that the Amish taught me.

What you do is, take kerosene and brown sugar and mix into a thick paste, kind of like tooth paste. You then apply it to the wound (burns like a cunt) and let dry like it's own scab. You kinda just let it fall off on it's own, but if it falls off during bathing just reapply new paste. It works very well, it heals faster than antibiotics, and it causes scars to be less noticeable
