For me, I like weapons that don't rely on government or an organized society.
A weapon is something that you should be able to construct and operate whether 2000 years ago or 2000 years from now.
Even though these weapons don't rely on specialized industries to manufacture and maintain, it doesn't mean the weapon is primitive or ineffectual.
Are there good guides or manuals or essays about using knives or bows in modern warfare?
>>
>>30359143
nobody uses bows in modern warfare.
>>
There was that British fella that charged up the beachhead st Normandy with a claymore sword and later took out a sentry with a longbow. Forget his name. Guy was a major douchebag and got his comrades ambushed because of bagpipe playing, if I remember right.
>>

>Even though these weapons don't rely on specialized industries to manufacture and maintain, it doesn't mean the weapon is primitive or ineffectual.
Yes it does.
>Are there good guides or manuals or essays about using knives or bows in modern warfare?
No.

This is fucking stupid. Stop being stupid. Government and organized society are not needed for firearms. The conquistadors were able to make gunpowder upon landing in the new world. We're never reverting to a point where bows are practical.

Even if that shit was necessary, it's never going away. Ever. Get over it. Even the worst shitholes on earth have more AKs than people. Time moves forwards and not backwards.

>conquistadors were able to make gunpowder upon landing in the new world

Calling bullshit until proofs.

These guns, by design, relied on the state to manufacture/use. It's all about control.
>>
>>30359143
So back to the stone age then? Actually even before that, because you can bet flint nappers were specialists.
>>
>>30359143
Bows and knives were once common implements of war. They are not as versatile as a gun for interpersonal violence. A knife makes a good tool, but not a very good weapon compared to a gun or even something as gay as a tazer.

You are too stupid for me to talk to without getting mad. You retarded cumsnorter. Pick up any history book. I'll give you a breakdown on the history.

Hernan Cortes was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands, he subjugated an empire of millions. Tenochtitlán was more populated than London when he conquered it, five times more populated. He didn't kick around some backwoods tribe with a massive army. He subjugated an empire greater in population than major European world powers.

Cortes did this with 608 men. 508 soldiers, 100 sailors. They came on 11 ships. He managed to get a few more from Spanish outposts, but he still didn't have over 2000 men.

By the way, he burnt the ships, so they weren't using those.

Do you think he had enough gunpowder to do all he did? To just carry it around in unexplored territory? He wasn't going back and forth to the few Spanish outposts on the coasts either.

Here's your source you inbred mongoloid. Read the whole thing. Maybe you'll also learn why bows got so utterly supplanted by guns: Because the guys with bows lost. Each and every single time, they got brutally murdered and subjugated. Because bows are primitive and ineffective.

Mexico and the Life of the Conqueror, Hernando Cortés, Volume 1 Page 353.

You can even read the full text of the book here: https://archive.org/stream/mexicolifeofconq01presuoft/mexicolifeofconq01presuoft_djvu.txt

It's literally just some random history book I picked. Choose any other one you want.

>These guns, by design, relied on the state to manufacture/use.
They're a metal tube you make go boom with a match. I could make one out of pipe right now. Stop voicing your stupidity, it hurts.

Fuck you sound so dumb.

Good job on baiting my reply though.
>>
>>30359212
Main advantage of bows is that they can be produced without access to metal or special chemicals, and are relatively quiet. Even in a "post-apocalyptic" scenario, guns will probably still be used, but a lot will be more like muskets or Civil War rifles rather than AK-47's.

>i'm going to claim that he can't carry barrels or pouches of powder just because
>there for he made his own gunpowder

Thats some first grade religous logic you got there.

But you have to prove your claim he couldn't transport barrels or bags.
>>
>>30359647

The one were monarchies don't want plebs to manufacture/use their own firearms and cannons willy nilly.
>>
>>30360788

If you have to buy your weapon and buy the fuel or ammunition for it, it's not a real weapon. It's a toy your allowed to use until those selling it to you say otherwise.
>>
>>30360948

What would the propellant be? You can't just make home grown gun powder, right?

Droppings from bats, birds, or the like, as well as manure from barnyards or even human
latrines, are potential sources of potassium nitrate. However, for decomposition to take place.,
the temperature must be around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and large amounts o time and dung are
needed for the process to occur. Thus, natural sources of potassium nitrate are relatively rare
and are usually restricted to caves or islands in warm climates.
>>
>>30362592

>Thats some first grade religous logic you got there.
Read the source you illiterate waste of space, it explicitly states he had to manufacture his own gunpowder, and how he did it. It's not just a logical deduction I made that his men physically couldn't carry enough gunpowder for their feats, it's recorded historical fact that he didn't.

>But you have to prove your claim he couldn't transport barrels or bags.
Not really, again, read the source. I know it's hard for your lardass to imagine physical labor, but try. How are you going to carry a barrel of gunpowder through an uncharted jungle where you can be attacked at any time? But I'll repeat myself again because you're clearly pretty dumb and might forget, even if my logic wasn't correct, it IS what he did, it's not just deduction. Read the source.

Saltpeter (pottassium nitrate) charcoal, and sulphur. Those are the ingredients for gunpowder. Sulphur is naturally abundant. There are few different ways to get the saltpeter, caves are an easy way to get it, all you need is some batshit. Other than that there are methods of filtering urine through sand or straw, literally just piss on it or build a stable on top of a sand pit and let nature do its thing. Charcoal...well, you can figure that one out.

Here's an article on black powder

I made a crossbow out of a few springs and a bike frame (pic related) but I couldn't do the same thing with sinew, and yew.

For the most part, our overall skillsets suck for the end of the world.

IF YOU HAVE TO BUILD YOUR WEAPON AND BUILD THINGS FOR IT ITS NOT A REAL WEAPON.

you are literally an autistic mall ninja. We don't live in 923 AD you fucking idiot. The only weapons that fit your criteria are your fists faggot. And you would still lose in a fist fight. Eat shit and die.
>>
Last time I heard of bows/crossbows being used in any sort of modern warfare was the Boxer Rebellion. However that was an extremely rare example, the crossbows used existed since ancient china and just happened to be around, nowadays any sort of primitive weaponry has been replaced by AK's.

You won't find anything on using bows because this isn't 1900. Those days are long gone anon.
>>
Im getting the vibes that I should just buy more ammo pretty much.

Humanity is where we are because of organized society. Even our hairy big lipped ancestors most likely had a system for producing arrowheads, carving of shafts and bows, etc etc.

If you want to somehow boost your power fantasy of being a badass lone wolf, you better keep your head down when those organized groups come stamping around, because they'll most likely have the manpower to maintain, scavenge, or jury rig firearms.

Uhh, you do realize he had eager helpers from the hundreds of tribes that were enslaved by the Aztecs? The Aztecs were despised by other tribes and they willingly helped Cortez with thousands of men. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_conquest_of_the_Aztec_Empire

So, maybe you should apologize to the anon you insulted, or go back to somethingawful.com
>>
>>30366410
What does that have to do with him making gunpowder? Did he tell those people what he needed and have them get it? No, because he wasn't retarded. The natives IMMEDIATELY realized the effectiveness of gunpowder and tried to get their hands on it.

He had five of his men get the sulfur from a volcano, and he got the nitre from bat shit in caves.

So no, I will not apologize for pointing out OP's retardation. People shouldn't say stupid things, and they should especially not ask for a source without doing basic research. Shouting "source!" is the retards way of delaying the inevitable all over the internet now. It's disgusting. These manchildren just shriek "source!" when confronted, then don't even bother to read it when one is provided, because they never wanted it in the first place. They just wanted to shut up the opposing side. I'm sick of seeing this practice run rampant. When people want a source to actually learn it's great, but all these idiots want is to waste someone's time pointing out the obvious.

If this argument were about Cortez, and not the fact that he made gunpowder without access to western technology and infrastructure, then you'd have a point, but it's not. Even then, why could those hundreds of tribes not topple the Aztecs with their thousands of men? Because they did not have the power to. Cortez's handful of men were enough to waltz in and kick the shit out of everyone involved. And it's not like his success was an isolated incident, the Spanish curbstomped everyone in South America and raped them so hard they created a new race.

Sulphur is not even needed, it's optional. Saltpeter and charcoal is all you need to make black powder.

Sugar can be used as well.
