Op here. It's mostly a giant otaku market. The doujin section and the french artists here are really worth it though.

Reitaisai and M3 have both been twice a year since 2010.
There's also a shitton of other conventions which don't matter to you since we don't get uploads from them, but do matter quite a bit to peple who actually live in Japan.

Well unless those conventions are putting out touhou doujinshi and music, I don't see why I would care. M3 isn't high on my list either since its mostly original stuff, but i'll check it to see if circles I like are making anything. Comiket mostly for the games.

Maybe you care only about Touhou, but it's absurd to say that Touhou is the only thing that matters.
That said, aside from Comiket and Reitaisai, the last big Touhou convention is Kouroumu, which is held once a year and comes in at about half the size of Reitaisai.

Comiket is when the majority of ero doujinshi about various things pour in, as well as games that aren't Touhou.

AX in L.A. was last weekend but they announced this there.
La Japan Expo, c'est de la merde guys. I went to the Reitaisai this year and I have a Touhousai happening in my town next Sunday. Too bad I can't go to the Comiket because I have booked a flight ticket to Okinawa during this period.
I went to AX and couldn't get ZUN's autograph cause I had no idea I needed to get a ticket until too late
now I'm headed to Japan and Comiket my first time, gonna set aside $800 to buy whatever i want

Most things you can get at a convention can be ordered off the internet for more cheaply (if not the regular, certainly after travel and lodging are factored in). It's not why most people go.
Ideally conventions would only be discussed in /jp/ in their relation to specific /jp/ topics.

There are no new doujinshi debuted at these Western cons; it's purely social and there's a far better board for it. Compare the number of blog posts in the thread with the number of posts discussing "otaku stuff".
We're already /a/'s trash bin, we don't need /cgl/'s refuse as well.
