I wonder if Sakura Dungeon's release has inadvertently led to some DMC sales? I've seen it shilled in the threads on /v/ that were discussing Sakura Dungeon and lo and behold, it's back in the charts this week. That's just some speculation that's more baseless than usual, though.

they are pretty similar games but DMC is an actual rpg whereas SD is just gay girls doing gay things. Really a shame the artist only knows how to do one body type, his art is pretty solid.
>>
>>15385989
SD is pretty much the updated DMC. If you even call SD a sequel to DMC then many ppl won't every realize that is made by different company
>>
>>15386035
Winged Cloud made Sakura Clicker, there's no standards or morals that would prevent them from wholesale ripping off another game.

Why should it? They finished SakuSaku which is the same length (but it's stuck on QC)
>>
>>15386292
Yes, it is stuck. That means it is not released, yet they took up another project. Not to mention that they are also in the middle of doing AstralAir.
They are hungry for doing new things without finishing the old ones.
>>
>>15386295
So the main translator shoud be doing nothing now since the QC is done by another ppl? It makes sense to start a new project

Irotoridori no Sekai and AstralAir are both by Favorite though, so it's likely they'll get approached by Sekai for official releases considering Sekai is already working with Favorite.

>>
>>15386739
Yeah, no. It's easy enough to get a hacker if you're capable of translating an entire VN. The real problem is that all translators lose motivation after the first couple hundred lines.
>>
>>15386786
It can be the best game ever but the general VN crowd will never get it because of the artwork.

Which is why Himawari will be interesting to see if people can keep up with the hard sci-fi just for the artwork.
>>
>>15386811

>The real problem is that all translators lose motivation after the first couple hundred lines

Probably because they're working on something they hate. I've done volumes and volumes of mango but if it was shit I despised doubt I could've.

>easy enough to get a hacker

Skilled programmers would be in about as much supply as translators I'd say.

Though the info I was reading said JAST planned to licence some of Cyc's stuff but gave up because their engine is extra shit or something. But seems a script patcher was made for gore screaming show which uses the same engine, doesn't work with Yami no Koe though sadly.

Please find a hacker.
YnK is one of my most wanted "dark nukige" and fapping to machinetl wasn't a good experience.
>>
>>15386871

Honestly though YnK 2 is a step above in quality too, half the reason for doing YnK 1 would be so I could start it.

YnK 3 is blandness that can stay untl'ed forever however.
>>
>>15386851
>Probably because they're working on something they hate.
Most fan-translators that start translation projects have no idea of the time and effort needed for it. Not to mention that many of them don't even realize they're not qualified to translate for several reasons. A fairly common reason is not having a strong grasp of japanese.
>>
>>15386898

Well I've seen enough of that on the mango scene, would've thought anyone going in to a VN would understand the length involved though given 'novel' is in the title and all. But I guess weak faggots can be found in any community.
>>
>>15386811
>Yeah, no. It's easy enough to get a hacker if you're capable of translating an entire VN.
Yet Aroduc keeps complaining he can't get any help and has dropped projects because of it.
>>
>>15386871
>reading anything machinetl
>ever
Why do people do this? Ruins the experience forever.
>>
>>15386948
That's because they don't want to work with him.
>>
>>15386948
That's because Aroduc translates gameplay eroge, which are an order of magnitude more complicated to hack than plain VNs. For normal VNs, generally hacking only consists of extracting the text and writing a tool to insert the text back into the game.
>>
>>15386831
Himawari has several factors working against it. One of the major ones is that people looking up the game on Steam will think there's an 18+ version, not realizing the remake never had an 18+ version. And they can't really patch them in because the art styles don't match, but I'm sure Steam uses will still consider the remake "censored".
>>
>>15387040
But it is censored. It could have had the 18+ content, but the developers cut/censored it to "sell more". Which in the end will cause them to sell less, because people don't put up with that shit behavior.

I for one will be pirating such things instead of buying it because if it is the best thing I'll get, I'll get it. But I won't pay for censorship.
>>
>>15387087
It's a remake, so it's a different product than the original, plus I've read that it has new content that the original didn't have, so it's the definitive version of the game.
>>
>>15387110
A censored product is also a new product different than the original. So what is your point?
>>
>>15387122
It only had like 3 short, shitty H scenes in the first place with bad art, why is that a selling point for a story game?
>>
>>15386811
>It's easy enough to get a hacker
From where? Please direct me to the hacker store..
>>
>>15387087
I'm always against censorship too anon but Himawari isn't a nukige and the art is pretty bad so the sex isn't really important this time.
It's not the main focus.
>>
>>15386323
Google is already working on dozens of Fuwanovel projects at the same time.
>>
>>15385448
>Da Capo 3 - 97% translated, 95% edited

Only 2 more years to go.
>>
>>15386991
That wasn't the case for Prism Ark or anything using that engine (eg Natsu no Owari no Nirvana)
>>
>>15387131
It is not a selling point. I couldn't care less if a VN contain porn. It is the censorship that is the problem.

It is the cancer of adult games. You have to fight it, or you'll be left with all-ages only titles.
>>
>>15386280
It's possible that they are just stalling near finished projects in the hopes of being picked up.
>>
>>15386982
That is technically true. All the VN hackers are now deep up MG or SP's ass and aren't willing to help anybody who's not.
>>
>>15387221
It's a remake, so it's meant to be different than the original game, even the story script has changes from the original. A remake is just a reimagining of the work. It's not like they took the same game and just cut content out of it.
>>
>>15387224
SakuSaku by SP or MG isn't that unlikely.
>>
>>15387247
And there is absolutely no argument to not have remade the 18+ version as well. They chose to save pocket change money by skipping the adult scenes, and I intend to make that decision cost them.
>>
>>15387367
I doubt your personal boycott will make any difference. If it fails it will be because it's a story title that most of the western audience hasn't heard of.
>>
>>15387367
It won't cost them shit. Get over yourself.
>>
>>15387367
18+ or not you will pirate it so i don't think MG and the dev give a fuck about what you think.
>>
>>15387383
That's the dovac mentality, isn't it?
>>
>>15387367
They remade it specifically to release it on the Playstation Vita, which only allows all-ages releases. If not for that, it wouldn't have been remade at all and MG wouldn't have ever licensed the original either.
>>
>>15386851
>Probably because they're working on something they hate. I've done volumes and volumes of mango but if it was shit I despised doubt I could've.
No, even the most passionate fans get burned out. While they're not likely to quit early on, they will slow down their pace after the first month or so and possibly drop a project, not because they hate it but because the work is dull. You need to really like both translating and writing to stick with longer projects. I say this from experience.
Many people who go from manga or anime to VNs don't realize how much more text there is. There is a huge jump from translating a manga (even the wordiest monthly series) to a VN.
>>
>>15386295
>>akerou said: Because of the link? I only put the link there ages ago because originalren also linked our page. Should probably remove it now. We aren’t affiliated with them in any way.

Not the same group
>>
>>15387367
>And there is absolutely no argument to not have remade the 18+ version as well.
The original PC and Vita versions have different art and content. MG simply can't mix these two in a single release. If the art were the same, that could probably be possible, although I hear that the characters ages are directly mentioned in the game which would put MG in a pretty difficult position given that they're underage.

It's true that the Vita version is was back-ported to PC in japan, however, that decision came on a latter date.
>>
>>15385448
>>Kuroinu - Being released as 3 seperate chapters, CH1 78% TL 18.13% edited
I have a question. Will they release some kind of complete all 3 chapters edition/bundle when all 3 chapters are done?
And how hard will they judge the sales from the first chapter alone? Because even if I have to buy them individually I'd likely not even touch them until I can buy all of them in one go. For the same reasons I don't touch partial fan translations.
I don't like the idea of getting invested and then having to wait a year to be able to continue.
>>
>>15387877
>I have a question. Will they release some kind of complete all 3 chapters edition/bundle when all 3 chapters are done?

I doubt they would answer that with anything more than "we'll see", as they aren't going to say something that would weaken sales of the first chapter.
>>
>>15387877
It's a different kind of episodic. Chapter 1 is the complete route for the dark elf faction. The other chapters will be the complete routes of the other factions. Chapter 1 is a complete story.
>>
>>15387829
>The original PC and Vita versions have different art and content.

Apparently the all-ages too. So it is 3 different art versions. None of them were really bad though.

They should just do the 18+ PC version too.
>>
>>15388208
That one has super outdated art and likely wouldn't sell well. There's also the possibility that they couldn't get the rights to it, or Frontwing don't want competition from the original version.
>>
>>15388208
They can't, since it's explicitly stated in-game that the characters are children.
>>
>>15388242
Sounds like the oldest trick in the book to write text to claim the characters are 18 or older.

#tlwiki used to be the place to get hackers, but I'm sure that nowadays it's changed enough to make it useless for actual translation-related stuff. You'll have to swallow your pride and ask on Fuwanovel, they seem to have enough hackers. Alternatively, just say you need a hacker on a VN-related place and chances are one will suddenly pop up out of nowhere.

>>15386851
I doubt your project will go anywhere, but I've extracted the scripts anyways so you can at least get started: http://vdzserver.org/misc/yaminokoescripts.rar
Source code for the extractor is at http://pastebin.com/1uB8686Y in case you ever need to hand it to a hacker or want to modify it yourself.

I make no promises of further supporting the project should it head anywhere (because I have no personal interest in this project, the game itself is old and buggy, and because I'm a novice hacker in the first place), but it should be easy enough to get a hacker to insert the scripts again if you manage to translate a decent chunk of it.

(Hacker notes: XOR with 0xFF. First 16 bytes are always the same, as are 0x30 - 0x40. All values are 4-byte integers. Pointer values must be multiplied by 4 (i.e. 0x05C4 refers to location 0x1710 in the file). Number of lines is at 0x10, pointer to line pointer table is at 0x14, line pointer table simply consists of pointers to the start of lines (null-terminated strings, no length indicator). 0x1C and 0x24 also seem to be pointers to data blocks preceded by length indicators, but I haven't really checked what they are for, nor have I checked what the stuff in-between the lines is.)

>Probably because they're working on something they hate. I've done volumes and volumes of mango but if it was shit I despised doubt I could've.

I hear this every time. "Not me, of course I'm motivated enough! How bad can it be?" And every time I hear it, the project is dropped before it even hits the 10% mark. At least you're choosing a shorter VN, but even then you're almost certainly underestimating the amount of work.

>Skilled programmers would be in about as much supply as translators I'd say.

No, there is a serious shortage of (dedicated) translators, while there are far more hackers than really needed, particularly for simple projects like this one. Hacking requires some knowledge of reverse engineering and a bit of your time, while translation requires not only knowledge of both languages (and arguably writing skill) but also a HUGE time investment, and the dedication to keep up the motivation despite the long duration of the project and low payoff (although it's really grown recently, the VN community is still a lot smaller than the anime or manga community; you'll get a lot less e-penis for a lot more work (and hell, with the current state of the community, chances are you'll get more complaints than gratitude)).
>>
>>15388323

Well thanks. Once TLwiki comes back online hopefully can download that gore screaming show patcher too, (was only able to find the first revision of it from google cache), since it's the same enginer maybe it only needs a little modification too.

I'll try not to disappoint your lack of hope too much. What % should I get TL'ed before begging somewhere for someone to code a patcher, 10? 20? And should I beg here or on tlwiki somewhere?

Also with those text files with the dialogue, should I just be replacing the moon with English in notepad or any text editor and saving them to make patching easy?
>>
>>15388395
Doesn't matter. They don't give a shit.
>>
>>15388402

What, about the eng script format? Surely there's some format it should be kept in to make auto-patching easy right? Seems to be line breaks and numbers in the ripped scripts too keeping it all in order.
>>
>>15388395
>Also with those text files with the dialogue, should I just be replacing the moon with English in notepad or any text editor and saving them to make patching easy?
From a technical viewpoint, the only requirement is that it is somehow possible to discern the order of the lines. The inserter will need to re-insert them in the right order; everything else is convenience.

Standard practice for VN translation is to keep the Japanese line in the script and write the translation below it. This will allow you to easily compare the two, which is helpful when you want to revisit a line, if someone wants to TLC a line, and so on.

In my exported scripts, I've prefixed every Japanese line with [ja][<line number>], and added a line [en][<line number>] after every line. The idea behind this is that you can write your translation after the [en][<line number>] prefix so you still have the Japanese line for comparison and so it's easy to detect which line it is for the inserter. (This also allows you to put notes (for example, to the editor) and remarks in the script file by just placing them on a line without those prefixes.)

>>15388395
>What % should I get TL'ed before begging somewhere for someone to code a patcher, 10? 20? And should I beg here or on tlwiki somewhere?
Fuwanovel is probably your best bet. There is no set percentage to ask for an inserter; you just need to convince someone you have a decent chance of completing your project (i.e. that you are not just wasting their time), and the best way of doing so is to actually complete a significant chunk of it.
>>
>>15388459

Okay, but what about those \r\n breakline or whatever characters, should I be putting them in at the same location they're in the Japanese text too? E.g. should:

>[ja][0013]萌\r\n「どう?\r\n 私と遊ぶ気にはなった?」\r\n

be done by me as:

>[en][0013]Moe\r\n"Well?\r\n Don't you want to have some fun with me?"
>>
are visual novels really that hard to translate? it's pretty common for high school students to translate 10k lines of vergil in a 36 week school year. you would think something like a nukige would be easy to blast out, even only spending an hour a day on it.
>>
>>15388605
A full length visual novel is 30k-50k lines though. Even short nukige are 5-10k lines.
>>
>>15388512
Possibly. They're line breaks, so it's your choice as the translator to retain them, move them, or omit them (though the line breaks following the speaker tags seem to be intended to separate speaker tag from normal text, best to always keep those). Judging from my little experiment manually inserting some text, the game doesn't seem to support automatic line breaking at all (so if a line is too long it just flows out of the text box), unless I missed something, so you might have to put line breaks in to keep it all in the text box (a process best done automatically using a tool) and watch out you don't use too many line breaks so the text goes past the bottom of the text box. Unless you can get a hacker to modify the font/text rendering.
>>
>>15388705

>the game doesn't seem to support automatic line breaking at all (so if a line is too long it just flows out of the text box), unless I missed something, so you might have to put line breaks in to keep it all in the text box (a process best done automatically using a tool) and watch out you don't use too many line breaks so the text goes past the bottom of the text box

Are you able to tell me how many ASCII characters fit on one line then, and how many ASCII lines in one text box? I assume I'll have to be maxing out each line since the English will always take up more space basically.

If I run out of room for one line within those constraints though what do I do? I assume I'd need two [en] lines for the one [ja] line then somehow? Should I just do it as:

>[ja][0001](KANJI KANJI KANJI)
>[en][0001](ENG LINE PART ONE MAXED OUT)
>[en][0001](ENG LINE PART TWO)
>[ja][0002]...
>[en][0002]...

Or something else?
>>
>>15388705
>>15388735

Or, actually, if I just put a break after the character name which seems required, couldn't the rest somehow be automated via string insertion after a certain amount of characters when importing for patching and reading each line? Counting every character for each line when translating sounds imfuckingpossible.

That, or the game needs to be modified to do this internally (and thus accept any kinds of lines).

For using multiple lines where the original has a single line, you'll have to ask the hacker who will do the insertion. It should be possible if the hacker wants to put in the effort for it. The input format to support this will depend on what the hacker finds convenient.

Just write the translation for now, worry about in-game formatting later.

It's been obvious for a while they were going to pick up Kiminozo, just has always been a matter of when.

Or a Schwarzesmarken Kickstarter.

J-List added the new MG hard copies. Surprisingly, they even added Euphoria, despite the edits they felt they needed to do to sell the hard copy of Starless.

I haven't put all the slots up yet. There's still two weeks to the con after all.

Has AX said anything about when they are going to finally release the event schedule?

Steam pages are up for Labyrinth of Grisaia, as well as Frontwing's ripoff of Huniepop. For the latter, Frontwing set up an uncut patch download page on their site, which I assume will be what they'll do for Corona Blossom and other titles going forward.

If Mangagamer is moving release dates around, Umineko really should be an early surprise release immediately after their AX panel ends, as opposed to July 8th.
