Only read through Index and Overlord so far.

Do you read raw or translated?

If translated, do you think it might affect the LN to the point of being called shit?
>>
>>15130892
Most of the stuff that the amateur LN translators decide to translate is already shit anyway, the fact that they don't know English, Japanese, or anything about writing is just icing on the shit cake.
>>
I'm currently preferring them over anime, since the majority of them end up being a bad and incomplete adaption anyway.

Going to get pic related in a few days.

For those buying their stuff, a new sale started recently.

I just finished Rokka no Yuusha archive 1. It was okay but I wish these stories were woven into the main series somehow. Hans's chapter made me like him a little less. My opinion of all the other main characters didn't change. The real stars of this volume were the newly-introduced side characters like Bormac and Gazama. Also Viron's role in the second chapter was nice, it was cool to see her and the other saints who have just been mentioned by name or only showed up for a bit in flashbacks in the main series interact with the main characters.
>>
Should we start a Light Novels general?
>>
>>15149333
Kill yourself. Everything doesn't need to be a general
>>
So what are people's opinions on Hakuchouki? Looks quite interesting.
>>
>>15151462
The first volume was great until the end, where the whole setting was flipped inside out with no explanation, ending with a cliffhanger for volume 2. Volume 2 cleared up most of the immediate confusion from the end of the first volume, but the change in tone from a prison escape to a kids-on-the-run type of story was sort of jarring. I liked it though, just not more than the first volume. Still, nothing about the main shady organization's goals or their reasons for doing anything have been explained at all so the series has just survived on suspense and character interaction so far. I'm sure looseboypussy will give us the twist we're all expecting in the end though.

>>
>>15174976
3 volumes isn't that long.
>>
>>15175106
I know, the synopsis just didn't seem like it was going to be a super long series to begin with, though.
Getting canned and ending with few volumes are pretty different. I was just wondering what your basis for it getting canned is.
Aside from the B.A.D. series, the author doesn't seem to want to do any particularly long work.

>>
>>15124089
How was it? Lossyboy vns was entertaining but his last game was mediocre for my tastes, is this LN any good?
>>
>>15188912
the series is okay but after two volumes it's still a little early to judge comfortably

in the first volume the protagonist tries to get away with murder and in the second volume he's running away from the evil organization that drove him to commit the murder in the first volume, and while a lot of mysterious stuff is happening in the meantime none of it is explained even slightly so it's hard to say whether it's good or not

in any case the suspense has been decent so far, and I do plan on getting volume 3, which judging from the cliffhanger in volume 2 will be about the protagonist saving the heroine from a different, opposing evil organization from the one that's been chasing him up til now

Reading すかぢ's えびてん 綺譚奇譚 now. It's a very easy light read, but interesting enough and feels like a すかぢ work through and through. Especially the lewd tension between main heroines is good.

>>
>>15212077
God damn, the last part of the LN is really unsettling and puts the previous character interactions between Yuka and Hasumi into different light.

Definetly recommended, you can read it even without reading the base manga or seeing the anime.
>>
>>15214637
What anime?
>>
>>15214657
えびてん

The LN is a spin-off of the manga/anime. Very different though. The manga/anime is a comedy series, the LN is like a logic and psychology textbook.

Definetly true of Sca-ji and Romeo. And I have high hopes for Silent World, well I bought it so that goes without saying.

Not sure about Loseboy's series though.

Other than that I saw some people praise Setoguchi's LN work.
>>
>>15214693
Only if they're good writers in the first place. Also I'd say people on the jay tend to focus on eroge writers' works because they get into LNs through eroge in the first place. Pretty much all my favorite LN authors have no relation to the eroge industry.

Finding anyone on 4chan who has read the same LN series as you is an extremely rare event. The only times I've had actual discussion about the contents of a book are when I've taken an anon's recommendation directly and talked with them about it in the same thread. Unfortunately I don't live near Kinokuniya anymore so I can't just stroll down there, pick up whatever someone in a thread is talking about, read it that afternoon, and post in the thread with my thougts later. I might try doing that once it gets close to one of my bi-yearly honto orders though.

>>
>>15227243
>>15227268
Thought so. I'm guessing the only good translated LN is Zaregoto and the Kawakami stuff. Translators seem to be really obsessed with bringing the bad LNs over.

Oh well, hope my Japanese is good enough in a year so I can try something better.
>>

Just read stuff in Japanese anyway? Even if your Japanese comprehension is poor, it would be more enjoyable than reading amateur translations, and you'll get better at reading faster to boot.

Boogiepop, Baccano(not as good as anime, but good nevertheless), Kino, Alderamin, Konosuba(read it before anime in jp, shit is hilarious) and Rakuin no Monshou are good partially translated LNs(for my taste anyway).

How common is it for LNs to finish? Every LN I know of is from an anime, and the LN they're based on seem to go on and on even after the anime ends and then either go on hiatus or just fade into obscurity.

Is there like an estimate of an average number of books LN series tend to make it to?

Finish normally, not stop being made, not hiatus, not cancelled, but have a conclusion while being more than one book long to begin with.

I just finished Kubikiri Cycle, the first Zaregoto book. I liked it, but you can definitely tell that it was his first book.

The first third of the book was kind of slow, but after that I really got into it. In the second murder which was done in a locked room, I thought the obvious solution was that the murderer picked the lock, but nobody even mentioned that. The conclusion to the mystery was pretty satisfying, but in the end I don't get what this book is about. There was a lot of talk about geniuses, becoming someone else, and Iichan's personality, but it doesn't really come together. I don't get the characters either, especially because the reasons for most of their actions were 'because they felt like it'.
