It took /jp/ 4-5 years to catch on to the single largest Touhou controversy and obsession.
I wonder whether it's because people don't understand/care about its aspects, or wether it's because people still don't notice the personas which are distinctly different from the original characters.

An embarrassingly low quality (relative to amount of contributors) voice drama became scandalous when it was revealed that the organizer was just using it as a front to meet QT amateur seiyuu. After this, the Japanese equivalent of the most dedicated, effective imageboard trolls took it and ran. I only really see the stuff on Niconico, and it gets much more involved and contextual from there.
The biggest thing to note is that the shame of Cookie (and all the various videos associated with it) are now mix-matched with a similarly shameful gay porn source, INMU (hence the common name for the kiddy trolls being 淫夢厨).

They are based on the MMD models/drawings which were employed by the voice actors. The reason why the voice actors are tagged is because they are distinct characters, whose personality is more derived from extrapolated peculiarities/memes of the VA than from Marisa herself.

Following the Niconico tags is enough to get a pulse on the latest Touhou fads. Note: Cookie is usually not under "Touhou" tags, but is a tag of its own.
