From the last thread a question.

Didn't think I'd ever be able to say that but my dick will forever be hard because of it.
Isn't it possible for Sayo to actually kill everyone, but her other persona, Beatrice, to come out of her like with Eva-Beatrice and create the tale for Battler in the Golden Land so he could discover the truth?
This could keep both magic and mystery components in while still having both being true in certain parts of the story.
In other words, Sayo's love and hate for Battler created Beatrice, an actual magical being, and created the entire game for Battler, with certain parts of both the mystery and fantasy aspects being true, such as Sayo killing everyone in the "truth", but still having magical aspects like the court scenes, entire thing with Battler and Beatrice, and all the demons/furniture be "true"/"real".
Umineko is honestly a 10/10, if you don;t like the second have you are a fucking baka.
Also the ps3 sprites were shit
>>14940607
>>14941130
>>14941364
Both sprites are good in their own ways.
For example, the original had great expressions (see pic), were made by Ryukishi himself, and fit the story itself a lot, but had dull coloring and the proportions were a bit off.
And the PS3 sprites had good shading and coloring, a professional style, and generally more clean/tidy than the original. However, they also left a bit to be desired with the expressions, most of them being copy and pasted directly down for nearly every single one, as well as falling a bit short when portraying and delivering the emotions shown (see pic, again, to compare).
tl;dr - pls stop the fighting, even though we're only 20 posts in

I really don't like how chubby and childish Erika looks in PS3 version, always envisioned her as at least a teenager

The same way they butchered Bern and Dlanor in order to pander to the mindless loli-obsessed with equally mindless design decisions.

>>14941455
I agree with Bern at least. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I prefer her anime design.
>>14941476
Yeah she was always meant to be Petite, but she's still meant to be obviously a teenager. I don't mind making her small, but I feel like other mediums, some of the manga and the fighting game, at least make her look like a small teenager without looking too childish.

It's in Ep.5's manga somewhere. I have the Yen Press books and remember reading it somewhere in there.
Speaking of Episode 5's manga in particular, it amazes me how different I read into everything now that I know what characters represent and what the answer is.
Bernkastel being a cold hearted mystery fan for example. Typically when presented with a murder mystery I immediately come up with several answers instead of just embracing the mystery and waiting for the story to move on, probably just to boost my ego. Bern does the exact same thing when presented with the 1st Twilight. Considering I hate Bern, it seriously gave me a reality check.

>Considering I hate Bern
Falling for the "I am evil and cruellest witch in the world!" meme
Witches are the Actor form for R07, it obvious that they also pretend to be something for reasons (or just for the lulz).
Metaworld/Witches are roleplayers roleplaying roleplay.
>>14944726
I really like this interpretation.
How do I explain this to someone without calling it complicated or deep? I don't want to sound pretentious.
>>14944533
Funny in the VN proper they say that Erika is somewhere in her early teens, closer to Battler and Jessica's age even.
What songs do you think fit the story or characters of Umineko?

or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_oDotmGE2U are good songs for Yasu.
>>14944726
Yeah a lot of meta world characters do that sort of thing, witches or not. Even Beatrice herself with the whole "I'm an evil monster who wants to give you endless torture" is pretty much taking on a role.
The meta world is full of roleplayers, while the gameboard is where the main roleplay happens.
>>14944969
Don't see how bad you could explain this its pretty simple.
R07 confirmed the characters are like actors, somewhere I also read that Lambda was pretending to be a good hero or something like that for Ange and Battler in the end of Umineko? Or self sacrifice or whatever.
Bern was pretending to be very evil because, they needed a villain somehow, and Bern was a protagonist on Higurashi of sort (this is just my opinion now). I can't believe Bern is just retardedly evil doesnt make sense with Higurashi and I can't swallow that "100 years of rika pain and sadness condensed into Bern".
R07 confirms the actor factor, its also kinda confirmed for witches to pretend to be something else as a strategy or just for fun (this meaning they are rolepalying).
I have a huge feeling Lambda is more mature then Bern, for some reason, probably because she is in "the business" longer then Bern, and Lambda acts like a 5 year old most of the time.
This feeling of seeing beyond the characters with R07 that makes this whole thing amazing.
And as a roleplayer as myself, I consider the Roleplayer Theory amusing.

Since Higurashi is an actual novel in the setting, Ikuko must have taken Rika and slapped her cat's personality on top of her
>>14944383
>>14941347
In truth, Umineko is making the point that both the magical and mystery sides have perfectly valid meta-explanations for the entire story, including its meta element.
It could be meta-textual elements written by Ikuko and Toya in their stories, and Bern is a cat.
Or it could be that the Senate and the Witches exist, and everything is a powergame between witches.
Episode 8 is really intricate in allowing both explanations on the same time, and in switching from one explanation to the other, sometime repeatedly in the same scene. Ultimately, you need to believe that both are true somehow, especially when they contradict each others. I don't know many works that cultivate ambiguity in the same amount as Umineko.
>>14945131
>Higurashi is an actual novel in the setting
Apparently it's an anime as well

>>14945135
I think that's what some people tend to ignore in Umineko, and they specifically try to cast aside ALL meta world character besides the council of witches half the time. I think there is a pretty big divide between the two, so it's easy for them to coexist without ruining the point of the other.

>>14945852
Threads here last longer and are easier to keep going, so I find it's better to have it here. We're also still getting more people curious about seacats and wanting to check it out.
Plus we have Hotarubi No Tomoru Koro Ni coming next week that's directly connected to Higurashi and Umineko, which gives us something to finally look forward to in the very near future.
>>14945347
I've seen worse in the other side, people casting aside all the mystery elements for powerlevels. An example: the red key is pretty obviously a metaphor for the red truth that kills the mystery, i.e the ultimate explanation that will kill Beatrice. Thus her destructive power is infinite because, from the mystery meta-textual explanation, nothing can/will stand the revelation of the ultimate truth. From this literal interpretation, the red key has no power besides revealing the truth that kill witches.
But people very, very frequently set aside that explanation and goes for the magical explanation: the red key is an ultimate conceptual weapon able to kill everything without hope of defence, because magic.
Same thing for Bernkastel (a cat, a concept, the avatar of the readers of the story, or an ultimate witch able to conjure big bangs from nothing?), Lambdadelta, Featherine (author avatar or ultimate omnipotent being?), and everything else really.
Even the fight between Bern and Lambda can be understood as a battle of will between two readers invested in the story, a battle between conceptual beings summoning illusionary what-if scenario in their try to kill each other, or a battle between two omnipotents witches summoning entire universes and crushing them down. Guess what people want to believe.

If she was just pretending everything that's kinda shit and ruins her character.
I always figured her talk of "being the bad guy this time" in the EP8 Tea Party was just meta-meta-commentary on how her and Lambda basically reversed the roles they had in Higurashi.
>>14946040
How does it ruin her character?
She already looks dumb like we see beyond EP4
>>14946047
Because if everything we saw of her personality and motives was an act, then everything that made her interesting was also an act.
I liked how the story established that despite her and Lambda's many similarities, they really are quite different. Like Lambda (and like a few others in Umineko), she uses the enjoyment she gets from the suffering of others to escape her own trauma. Unlike Lambda however, she's so thoroughly dead inside that she's incapable of getting emotionally invested in almost anything else. I do think her feelings for Lambda are genuine, but even when Lambda is killed, she just laughs it off.
I'm just saying that if she was faking literally all of that for shits and giggles, I just think that makes her boring. And if Lambda's the same way, that's even worse.

If Ufotable picked it up that it's be kind of funny considering the original fate anime was DEEN too.
I was thinking madhouse, not because it's particularly good but because I think it could do a halfway decent job, but now that I think about it production IG seems like the perfect choice, at the very least we'ed get some good animation, and there's a chance they wouldn't cut too many important details.
I was also toying with SHAFT but that'd be more of a hit or miss. On the plus side a lot of the imagery for the meta world would be great, and the red and blue truths would be handled perfectly, on the down side it would mostly be a slideshow and the quality would generally be mixed, if not shit a lot of the time.

Haha was afucking hilarious ad. Although, this does get me thinking about some of the themes in Umineko, particularly the theme of belief in magic and what it means to actually become a witch.
Trolling aside, on a more serious unrelated topic, I always sort of assumed that in order to become a proper witch you had to understand the truth, and create an illusion around that. The only witches that become properly accepted by Lambda, or the council in general tend to be people who know the truth behind the game boards/Certain real events. People who realize that magic doesn't exist, but because they have that knowledge they can still keep up the illusion of magic. Compare Battler with Erika in episode 5. Erika became an improper, temporary witch after pushing her argument that Natsuhi had been the culprit, an argument nobody had managed to counter. She didn't properly understand the truth, and went out of her way to destroy the illusion of magic. Meanwhile Battler, by the end of Episode 5, fully understood the truth and how reality/the game boards worked. He had a more cohesive understanding of what happened on Rokkenjima, as well as how magic in general worked, than Erika did. Thus he was given a more permanent position than Erika, and accepted by Lambda and Featherine.
I think that's an important step in Battler's general character arc, and important theme in the story, that a lot of readers seem to gloss over. An important theme in episode 5 was about how sometimes it's alright to humor a magical explanation, although you know for a fact magic isn't the case. Such as Natsuhi's delusions about Beatrice and Kinzo walking around alive. Battler understood that those events were just in Natsuhi's head, and although he knew he'd have to deny magic when the game proper started he still humored that explanation for Natsuhi and Beatrice's sake. Same thing with episode 6 and 8. Battler knew the truth on Rokkenjima already, and had in no way given up on finding the truth and just accepted magic. Rather, he understood that magic was an illusion, and how harmful the truth could be if certain parties figured it out and abused it, people like Erika and Bernkastel.
I always hear people debate about the mystery elements in Umineko, but hardly the fantasy elements. From my experience people tend to disregard those and the meta world segments as extraneous at times, although I think they're just as important to the narrative as the mystery elements.
>>14945923

Now I can't even tell if I'm pissed or sad. Especially since I dragged it on and made it a bigger part of my life as a result. The whole idea ofMeta-waifu-Beatrice being Shkanon who was a bitter tranny because s/he was forgottenmade me fucking mad. And not even for reasons that I made that sound like. Like I don't even know if I understand that part of the story right. And that final arc whereBattler is alive and becomes an amnesiac emo old guyrubbed me the wrong way too. But the way Umineko is I can't even tell which parts we're supposed to believe to be real and which parts are interpretations of possibilities or whatever. I really don't want to reread it because I feel like the parts I hate about the storysuch as everything being fake meta alternates to other people and theories[/spoilers] and how theybasically deconstructed Beatrice to the point of destroying hermakes me not want to even bother. Umineko wasn't a mystery VN anymore after Ep 4
You are right, meta stuff were mainly metaphors for theories and what actually happened, but Lambda, Bern and possibly Erika actuallly exist in the sea of fragments
I also was fucking mad when I learnt about Yasu, but after some time I relized that I didn't regret all the hours that it took to read the VN
If you also don't regret it there is no use being mad
Just let go anon, Umineko is over and it is highly unlikely that something remotely similar to it will ever be made

me on the left
Erika is probably the worst character in Umineko.
>>14954044
Dumbass detected.
>>14953278
Where is your love?
Did you lose it all, because you were shown a truth, of sorts?
>>14953278
You are more than welcome to reject what you witnessed at the end andremember the party in episode 8.You could also accept that factKyrie and Rudolf slaughtered the family, and none of the witches including Bern and Auau exist. And Lion is a miracle I will not allow you to slander.
What was the purpose of making Kyrie Battler's mom?
>>14954044
Erika is the only good thing about Chiru

Shitpost,
>>14954772
>>14954394
Without Erika, there would have been no mystery and Battler would have given up to Beatrice like the bitch that he is and everything would have remained magic.
>>14954810
She's part of the reason why it's good, she herself is a piece of shit only good for hatefucking.
>>14954827
Being a piece of shit, makes it a shitpost.
[X] Point your index finger at her and shout "YOU DON'T EXIST, STUPID WITCH!!!!"
"....." the witch remains silent for a second and then speaks, "Oh, are you trying to emulate that one guy with the red hair from that game I took a small part in all of that time ago? Wasn't that guy's name 'Fighter' or something?"
"Anyways, I think I'll leave now. I was planning on granting you a wish or something but you really put me out of the mood." the witch continues "I guess this is farewell, Anonymous."
[ ] "Please take me with you!"

Good riddance fake witch! I believe you are a narcissist, masquerading as a witch to attention whore! Simply by the existance of your trip, this level of reasoning is possible for Anonymous. What do you think, everyone?
>>14954993
Just because the truth is boring, doesn't change the fact that it is the truth.
>>14954936
[X] Punch to the face
>>14954936
[X] "Can I still pick up Erika?"
>>14955041
There is only a vocal minority that loves to scream that shit.
Most of us here actually love Bern-sama.
>>14954055
Goddamn I want to rape Erika.
>>14955041
I'm no Battler, I enjoyed the twists and turns she introduced to the games even after she fooled me.
She's also the type to cry into her pillow when no one's around.
>>14955055
Good luck outraping the rapist.
Reaching a majority isn't that hard, people.
>>14955060
Jesus. Don't post that abomination
>>14954936
[X] Pull her tail as she leaves
>>14955141
It's up to you as the game master to come up with options worth picking

It's not just you. I would occasionally check /a/ and /jp/ for any higurashi/umineko/R07 threads but now I have to check here more frequently now that we have threads regularly being made for it. Not that I'm complaining.
>>14955307
Even if a lot of it is Erikaposting, we've still been reaching bump limits over a shorter period of time.
