They're a one dimensional group, the antics of Ladybeard gave them a little bit of success but he also is gonna be responsible for their downfall.

Ladybeard is a mediocre growler and we practically have seen everything he has to offer in the past 2 songs, as i said before, he is an entertaining character but a man dressed as a little girl doing kawaii stuff is fun but only for so long, i have nothing to complain about Rei/Rie they're cute and as idol singers they're alright but they're nothing special.

The point is that the mementum (i know is misspelled, it's to express meme factor + momentum) gained with Nippon Manju is wearing thin and they don't have anything else to show, the talent is just not there.

and they're also, what, a year old? They might have decent youtube numbers but they have also no fanbase in Japan, they barely play any domestic shows.

On the other hand, Death Rabbits have fractions of youtube videos of what Ladybaby has, and fraction of fractions of what Babymetal has, but they're been an idol group for years now and have fans all over the country and have been touring regularly & growing.

Also Ladybaby is trying very much to me the wacky Japan Babymetal-imitator (which I like)), while Death Rabbits is going its own thing.

I personally really enjoy Ladybaby and I do hope that they keep at it. The idol business is a marathon, not a sprint.
>>
>>14950016
>The idol business is a marathon, not a sprint.

Is that really true though? AKB and Momoclo got big relatively fast, Negicco has been around for ages and they're not really all that big. When it comes to hitting the big time things have to move fast, otherwise you'll become this forever niche act like hy4_4yh.
>>

>>14950244
Speaking of wich, how underbeasty doing? I just came across their youtube channel but their videos don´t have many reproductions.
>>
>>14950244
AKB was already backed by big money from the very beginning, and with Momoiro clover yeah they did become popular overnight because they were doing 100+ shows during summer breaks and sleeping in minivans while touring.

Look at Babymetal, nearly 4 years of being in the shadow of Sakura Gakuin as a subunit, a few extremely modest solo concerts around Tokyo and SEA, but over the years with more metal-sounding music and getting a full live band they did make it.

I guess ultimately it's all about appeal and relative uniqueness. Whether Ladybaby has that is still a question mark.

google is excellent for reverse searching a rare picture. if the picture is new then it brings you to sites that are good at aggregating new stuff, and if it's old then you find pretty obscure collections.

also google was decent for finding hi-res babymetal/ayaka/ayami. they're all pretty famous and all the hi-res were professionally done though so i guess that's different
>>
>>14951942
Yeah but it didn't take them all that time to become popular.

It more or less took them like 4 years to become really mainstream and popular (having gold-certified singles/albums, selling out arenas).

I guess it's not THAT fast, and Ladybaby has only been around for a year. When those groups were a year old they were mostly performing at half-empty shopping malls.
>>
>>14951948
They're fine, sales has been pretty much the same and they're big in Asia, they even have a group in China.

>>14950016
>The idol business is a marathon, not a sprint.
A marathon that Ladybeard can't run, the guy is in his early 30, does he pretend to do the same 5 years in the future?
>>
>>14951942
Momoclo started in 2008 and had their first Saitama Super Arena show in 2011.
AKB started in 2005 and had their first Kohaku gig in 2006.

So yeah, both got big relatively fast, especially compared to the Negicco example given in that post.

>>
>>14951975
>the guy is in his early 30, does he pretend to do the same 5 years in the future?

I don't see why not. Bucho from Death Rabbits is 38 years old and up front on stage with little girls less than half his age, screaming and dancing around while wearing full-body paintball armor and a ridiculous mask.

Beard's other career paths were stuntman and pro wrestler, he has a major foot in the door of the Japanese idol and tarento industry. Worse comes to worse he can always end up being a TV or radio host.

Or male host that caters to a very niche and specific fetish for women.

3 years is a lifetime in Idol terms. A year ago nobody but people obsessed with J-15 knew who Rei was
I guess AKB is not a good example since they got a big boost with all the money AKI-P mande with Onyanko Club, but that's another history
>>
>>14952184
Exactly. I dont see Ladybeard going away soon, but for the sake of both his and Rei's career, Ladybaby must not last more than 2 years, tops. Otherwise they will be a cartoon of themselves, trying to score another Manju part 2.
If anything, i dont want Rei doing nudes at 20 desperately trying to be on the spotlight again. Despite all knife jokes, she's got talent.

It's amazing how big the difference in popularity comparing ano to the rest of the group. From just a glance you can see that Ano's twitter has around 1.5k tweets while the others have 7k-10k+ tweets, but she has more double the amount of followers than the rest combined. Also videos that are focused on her (such as the cm's for concerts) are way higher than the other member's focused vids.

I don't know if it's the "standard" organization, but for last saturday live, she was the only one to do her cheki/sign before the concert (instead of after for the other girl).
I guess it was to avoid to have her line literaly flooding the venue at the end of the concert. I guess you also got less time to speak with her during a cheki, as their was only a polaroid for the five other girls.

They're use of odd time signatures and syncopation is interesting, but the music itself isn't particularly memorable or even particularly pleasing to listen to. Kind of like how the behind the scenes of a movie can be really cool or intricate even when the movie itself turns out to be shit.

As a gril I like Younapi. I've spoke to a few other girls who like her too. I guess it's because she has cute fashion as well as energy. I watched some of their lives on YouTube and seeing how happy she looked performing put her up to my #1 (from Ano)
Her collaboration with Rinahamu also helped, since Rinahamu is especially popular with girls in Harajuku at the moment.

It's more or less the same reasons that made me switch from a slight preference to Ano to the Chiffon fanbase after seeing them live for the first time last summer: the fact that she is constantly smiling during concerts and the energy she deploy. Last but not least she's really a sweet girl when you talk to her, but I guess it's part of the job. But well, I guess I'm now identified by her as one of her gaijin fan, so I'm happy that senpai finally noticed me.

Younapi is my favorite too. She is like a cute alien who got stranded on earth and tried to disguise herself as a human but eventually started to like it here and decided to stay and try to make earth a better place. I like her artwork too. Her and Rinahamu are like the embodiment of ゆめかわいい. Ano is more 病みかわいい. Ano is the folk hero for all the edgy emo teenage girls. Ano reminds people of the girl they knew in high school who was really cute but also a loner because she was just too weird. But yeah, she's the most popular member by far. In fact I'd say Ano is probably the most popular alternative idol in Japan overall.

Younapi is such a cutie, and so is Rinahamu. ゆめかわいい is one of my favourite themes at the moment, I'm loving BPM15Q and Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da (病みかわいい)
Ano is definitely on the more edgy side, her Instagram is quite abstract compared to some other idols I follow.

I don't really like any of the 2 songs, Death Rabbits song has too much bucho for my liking and it seems that the composer of LadyBaby's song had a brain fart in the middle of his work and completely forgot about the good first half, or maybe they just run out of budget and Ladybeard had to finish it. So my vote goes to Death Rabbits their song is at least consistent.

Hello, /bmsg/ here.

Do you guys make a lot of webms here and would like to make some with sound?

I have this idea of making a Joint Idol General Webm thread on /wsg/ where users from all the idol generals can post their webms with larger file sizes and sound and link in their respective threads.

This way we'd be sharing webms of qts in an optimal way and we'd have some association and curiosity across the idol generals.

What do you guys think?

While it's true that the average english level of a japanese is pretty low, they don't really need to be able to speak english.
That's particularly true in the alt-idol scene, where we are all, as foreigners fans, some sort of anomaly. That's also why the fans/idols are generally pretty happy/curious when they see a foreigner almost lost in the middle of an event.

They do if they want to branch out into the international community for more money.
Which their economy desperately needs.

>相手がわたしに伝えたいことは大体理解できるけどそれを返答することができない。

I know that feel with Japanese.
>>
>>15016260

Honestly, I'd blame the Japanese economy more on Japanese business mindsets in general than strictly how insular some of their markets are.

The Japanese resist change. This isn't always a bad thing, as not all change is good, but when shit hits the fan, change is needed in order to adapt. An example of an area that could benefit from embracing change is their use of technology. It's not just a means to plug holes. It's a means to take things that are slow and prone to error (and thus, waste money) and replace them with things that are fast, accurate, and cost-effective. It'll fuck a couple of industries, but it'll make up for it by creating new, more profitable jobs to take their place.

Furthermore, their insistence on employees not going home and working on their social lives is killing the age of their population, which also hurts their economy. If businesses aren't going to do it themselves, then the government needs to force them to do it. If they're concerned about the amount of work that'll get done, then that just means that they need to stop pissing around during business hours. Proper use of technology will also help.

Well I agree with the comment about the "global" economy, but to stay in the "alt-idol" market. I know that we have all in mind Babymetal as an example of how successfulness an idol group can be oversea, but I've a feeling that trying to discuss how I can be generalized will be a source of endless shitstorm (Are they even using an “idol-type” marketing now? Etc...).

First I think we can all agree that “alt idols” going “mainstream” in the West can end up backfiring. Just imagine what can some media/blogger say about Death Rabbits : “Nazi-symbolism plus little girls showing their tummies to middle aged men etc..” . I mean, it's now even science fiction, I remember this reportage of Vice(if we can call any of the turds they produce reportage), where they establissed an almost direct relation between JK cafe, Schoolgirls prostitution in Japan, and idol bands like MechaHigh. Keeping the “western” opinion away from our private garden is definitly a good idea.

Now, what about us, the “gaijins alt-idol fanbase”? I would be really interessed to know “how much divisions” we represent, for example, how much people a band like BiSH or Passcode could bring if they did a concert to a random AnimeCon in a easily reachable place (like Paris or London for West Europe). Also, how much we may spend to cd if they're easily reachable etc...
I would also be thankful if someone reposted the interview of the last thread that was talking about the “economical” model of a idol bands. It's a question that I'm asking to myself since I'm in Japan. To stay in the ゆるめるモ! example, as I'm starting to go to their show on a really regular basis, how much of the group revenues come from the CD selling and the “big” concert like the one at Zepp Diver City vs the revenues from the small weekly concert that host like a bit more than an hundred person? And what fraction on their revenues comes from the “hardcore” fanbase of ~50 peoples that seems to comes to every shows? What I want to say is that, except if they are located in Japan, Western fan are not really “rentable” in a economic point of view.

Which lead me to my last point, that can be called naive, that is that most of these small band are not here for (only) for the money. Well obviously the idols and the staff (which I estimate to be around of a total of ten persons for a band like ゆるめるモ!) have to live and everyone, including us, are pretty happy when they begin to win a shitload of money for their work. But realistically, if money was the “main” motivation, if being an alt-idol the most efficient way to earn it ? Given the cost involved in money ( renting venues, producing goods) and in time (multiple show per weeks, endless training) I don't think it would be worth the effort if the motivation was “only” financial. That lead us to the motivation of the “glory”, aka having a dedicated fanbase, a potential springboard to pierce in the show-business world , etc... And here comes our “interest” as foreigner fan, showing that there are people, located a thousand kilometers away, and that for most of us I guess don't speak more than a few words of Japanese, that sufficiently love your work to by your CD or even to travel in Japan to see your live shows. And that should be a pretty cool feeling if we think about it.

So know, what can we do it to support these groups, except buying stuff, going to live when possible? I was thinking about the fact that, if there exist a few website/blog (of various quality) that aggregate english news about alt idols group, we may need a sort of wiki that will try to aggregate more concrete informations about the group themselves. For example, song translations/interpretation, useless/fun trivia about the group numbers (XXX like this sort of food and had/have a solo carrier under this name) or even a list of the mix/chants that are used by the fans during the live. I don't know if anyone is interested by this project but that seems to me a pretty a pretty cool way to increase the visibility of the alt idol scene to the western fanbase.

Tldr; To much free time on Sunday morning, just read the last paragraph for concrete stuff.
>>
>>15018848
>a sort of wiki
There are a few already, such as:
http://jpop.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Also, I think trying to attract fans will backfire for the reasons you listed. Let it happen organically.
>>
>>15019753
As I said, I'm not envisioning a grand plan to enlight the western mass to a niche japanese music genre, that is more or less doomed to fail. I was more thinking to centralize information for the international alt-idol community (even I'm pretty unable to estimate how many people it may contains).

For the existing wiki, I was more «planning» something more concentrated one the groups that are regularly mentioned in this thread, with a more «dense» amount of information for every ban. We may start by treating the information available on the japanese version of wikipedia, a task that seems doable by using machine translation. Anon that are able to speak/read japanese may try to translate songs or to dig some «exclusive» trivia on 2ch, that sort of stuff. I'm just trying to assess the feasibility of such a project.
>>
>>15019897
Also, I was also thinking of the interest of "tutorial", like how to reserve a ticket for a live of the groupe Y via their website, how the cheki for the group Z are usually organised, etc...

I am sorry, but if you think that alt-idols are not in it for the money any less than any other music group, you are being incredibly naive and stupid. Look at their fucking schedules.

You are not envisioning anything, you are just talking out of your ass. Adding english to their communications/merch does not equal going mainstream. You honestly sound like a teenager that doesn't even fully understand how the world works, let alone a mainly DIY music scene.

>>15020661
well the anon is musing about doing a service completely free for people who will eventually bank off of it... i think that says enough
>>
>>15020661
Well, re-read my poorly spelled post, I think I never said that money was not an issue I'm just saying that if your goal is to earn an large amount of money being an idol (or doing any artistic related jobs in general) may not be the easiest way to do it. However it's obvious that it is an issue, at least because the performers and their supporting staff have to live (and everybody aim to live pretty comfortably if possible). Hell, just the chekki and stuff highlight pretty well the fact that money play a large role.

Concerning the “english skills” related part, I'm just trying to highlight the fact that , a priori, as foreigner fans we have a pretty low financial potential, especially when (and again, I'm curious to see number that may or not back up this statement) a large part of the financial income of a small band seems to come from the weekly event that are hold to a pretty reduced public. Public that include a pretty large proportion of people that will come to almost each event.

And for the “going mainstream”, I was answering to >>15016260 that, at least for what I understand, seems to consider it as a must do to have this scene survive. It's not a fear or anything.
>>15020667
Well, I was not planning to run any service (and I guess I'm to lazy to do anything), just thinking about a way to centralized some informations we may dig up individually.
>>
Well I guess showing people how to reserve in advance will guarantee you entry and save 500 yen, but in almost every case getting a ticket is as simple as going to the venue just before the show and asking for a 当日券
>>
>>15020758
I don't remember what I did wrong, but I got a trauma because of the number of try I had to do before being able to successfully complete the eplus registration form. I guess that was a manifestation of the autistic part of me.
>>
>>15020758
Yeah, just go up to the front door and ask for a ticket, it's not hard.
Fuck and buying in advance? Go to a conbini and ask for help. Not hard at all. You don't even need to know japanese, just pull up the event page and say "Ticket?"

Well, that's not as easy as it looks. Unless you live in a pretty small world. With like yourself. And your dick.

Shooting Star Girls (流星群少女)

If I understand it correctly, this group does not exist any more. It appears they have formed a new idol unit together with members from Ru:Run, called 全力少女R (FULL POWER GIRLS R).
