About these .rar files, I've noticed that they tend to last longer in uploaded than straight up video files. For example this video I just downloaded, released November last year, all uploaded links of .avi files on Javlibrary comments are all dead. But those with .rar stay intact. I guess filehosts are more aggressive pruning video files in fear of copyright issue.
Now I understand that single .rar file is suspicious, I mean, why bother if it's not split into parts? But there are actually legit reasons other than just to scam us with fake file inside. First is smaller file size (even if the difference with actual extracted file is just around 100 MB). Second, if my theory above is correct, is to fool the filehosts.
It's still a gamble though. Better use them only as last resort.
