Since 2012, so 4-5 years I guess. I was spamming MangaGamer's blog for Shin koihime musou, in the end they got bored of it and said they couldn't license it so they cant release, at least in the near future -it happened at the around of halfway 2011, dont remember the exact date- With that rage I started working on japanese with all my free time, and started reading the game at the picture date. I was pretty slow and it took two months though. Hell I'm still keeping the game in my hdd.
>>
>>14719794
I read my first one in 2008 (Clannad), but only started reading regularly in 2011.
>>
>>14719874
Clannad was my first one too. I wasn't very serious about it back then and took long breaks reading it on and off. It took me over a year to finish all routes.

Tsuminohi for me, the trial was really like yorino which I liked a lot last year.
I'd do otome riron but I'm so tired of the series at this point, didn't particularly enjoy tsuriotsu 2 either.
Maybe the new harukaze too, the art seems better than their last game which is a plus, especially the necks.

For me the appeal and why BISHOP is special is because its an intimate break game.

I really dislike girl sharing so to me most minbreak games sucks because the MC wants rather make the girl a cumslut than his personal slave. Most MB VNs relies on the main guy using others to do the mindbreak for him which gets stale really quick.

Also like to name my MC which adds to the immersion.

I really think BISHOP artist Oonari fits really well for that kind of games and is one of the best artists for that genre.

Also the soundtrack is very strong in those games and i like the sex sounds.

Nanairo - definitely do the true route (the schoolgirl) first. The other ones are more... nukige-esque and less serious. Still worthwhile, though, just not first.
>>
>>14722872
>I really dislike girl sharing
I enjoy it in nukige, since it's not like I can develop an emotional connection to sluts anyway. Might as well go all the way if you're going to slut someone up.
>>
>>14723197
There's a difference between making a girl a pervert (someone who is addicted to / loves sex) and making a girl a slut (someone who fucks a lot of people).

What happened to Romeo? The Kouya trial and his new LN are some of the most mediocre things I've read in ages.
>>
>>14723687
Nothing happened to him. He's always been mediocre.
>>
>>14723687
Romeo has never had public appeal. That's why he's still famous for his curse (KID/Regista/ruf/FlyingShine/etc...).

I suppose we'll see Kouya flop as well but still be well-regarded in general, such are the fates of Romeo works. Time will tell.

Do any of you feel jaded on VNs? What would it take for you to truly enjoy something? A solid take on a common idea? Something truly novel? Bringing back features discarded by time from the genre?
>>
>>14723156
I'd do Kotori route first for the most impact. The order for other routes doesn't really matter.
>>
>>14723834
Good writing. It sounds pretentious of me but there are in general two kinds of writers for me: those I find myself nodding along to and actually thinking about many of their lines, and those who are just so dull and uninspired their lines become a means to an end (i.e. cool battle plot or ecchi or some such). I'm getting really jaded with VNs with writers of the second kind. Even with really good VNs, I can't bring myself to tolerate dull writing, and end up spending the whole time wanting to read something else. With "real" books this rarely matters, because thanks to editing, plots can carry them even with dull writing, but with VNs and their padding/huge lengths, it becomes intolerable. At least thats how I figure it anyway.

I don't think common routes need any special takes, or new settings, or bringing back old features (though more VNs implementing game systems would not be unwelcome). VNs are novels, what they need for me is simply good writing. Well, actually, about the game system, dating sims like Tokimeki Memorial and JRPGs like, uh, Sol Trigger can be fun despite poor writing thanks to their gameplay, so perhaps there's an idea there. Replace all padding with JRPG systems. Haha.
>>
>>14723834
elements that aid the escapism. I think VN is not something you should play every day of the week. instead you should play one or two titles that you are interested at the moment, take a long break and play again next month.

at the end of the day the quality of an average VN is not gonna blow your mind. the unique entertainment it provides is what should matter.
>>
>>14724215
What are your examples for the former and latter type of writers?
>>
>>14724247
I was thinking of Dostoevsky when I wrote that post, I haven't actually read a really good amount of VNs yet, however I like what I've read of all the meme-level authors such as, you guessed it, Romeo, Masada, etc etc. I also enjoy the line-by-line pacing of writing in novels such as those written by Watanabe Ryouichi and Mareni, those two keep me entertained throughout. I would be delighted if I could provide names that wouldn't make me look like a memester but sorry, not that well read yet. As for the latter type, you can find them everywhere. It's be cheap to point to moege since no one expects anything from them, so in terms of VNs that actually tried to have a good plot, Hatsumira and Gun Knight Girl are both VNs with truly dull and truly poorly paced, the worst of both worlds.
>>
>>14723834
I want nothing special, just interesting theme, good characters, entertaining story etc. No copy paste, no padding.

Writers seem to have no freedom at all, only know how many characters they need to shit out for the deadline.
>>
>>14723834
I enjoy anything that keeps me entertained overall, but I have a special love for things that attempt to break or fuck around with patterns, stereotypes or the medium. Any attempt at creativity and novelty, basically. I like my mind being blown. It's why denpa and metafiction are my favorite genres. Of course I'm in a bad position because there's very little of it, but I enjoy most scenarioge and charage anyway.

>It's generic anime 101
Good job showing you didn't read it
>>
>>14725180
Alright, I'll bite.
Higurashi and Higanbana are top tier when it comes to quality writing in VNs. Both have great pacing with alternating calm and exciting sequences, well fleshed-out characters with complex motivations, and make use of their medium to create mood by using all sorts of stylistic devices, making creative use of backgrounds, soundeffects and employing multiperspectivist storytelling and unreliable narrators where it makes sense. I haven't really been able to find anything else on that level though. For the most part VN writers seem to be content with just doing the same shit everyone else does.
When you look at highly regarded VNs like Steins;Gate, the Fate series or the infinity series they are pretty good examples of flat, or at least underdeveloped characters, terrible pacing and 'huge stretches of nothing', which rely on some kind of gimmick to keep the reader interested.
>>
>>14725678
>Higurashi and Higanbana are top tier when it comes to quality writing in VNs

>>14725678
Higurashi well paced? You're not serious are you?
It has huge ammounts of boring scenes that just drag on and on, same with Umineko.
Pacing is R07's weakest point.
>>
>>14725678
And here I expected something serious. Nice bait I guess.
>>
>>14726310
>Pacing is R07's weakest point.
There is also the fact that he like repeating the same shit 5 times in the same paragraph
Or that he has no vocabulary and overuse ellipsis like no one business
Or that all his stories are based on some extremely stupid shit like parasites or the maid is the butler is the witch

Honestly I would have a hard time thinking of some good points, even the unreliable narrator business he overuses because it's the easy to make a twist shit he uses badly, Lucia's route in Rewrite for example where he downright lie to the reader for no reason
>>
>>14725685
>>14726249
>>14726352
That's not me guys.
I think it's pretty reasonable to expect a good author to be fairly consistent in producing good VNs, so there's no need to specifically list good VNs, especially when the authors I listed have so many well-known works.
>>
>>14725546

There are plenty of valid reasons to dislike Kentoma (I wasn't a fan myself) but this is not one of them. You have plenty of reviews on Amazon complaining about how it doesn't follow LN conventions and feels like a regular novel instead. How do you figure it was "generic anime 101"?

Why would you make a post like this knowing you were going to get ridiculed?
>>
Anyone played Imouto no Seiiki?

>>

>>
>>14727417
There was very pissed review on EGS claiming its not even good NTR.
Whole cockblocking thing from main heroine sounds terrible.
>>
>>14727441
>its not even good NTR.
Anyone who says that clearly didn't read the first two games. NTR was barely given attention, thats simply not the kind of series Tsuma Migui is. The appeal is front and center slutty milfs, and yes "slutty" as in fucks a lot of dudes. The appeal is not nuanced or even meaningful NTR.
>>
>>14727441
It's optional, you can remove all NTR.

>>
>>14727417

If you don't meet the guy you're cucking or their reaction, that sounds boring IMO
>>
>>14727755
In TM1 your character never meets the husband, and the only reaction when he finds out is punching his wife in the face.
>>
>>14727722
Yeah, NTR is avoidable if you play right and even optional.
>>14727755

Okay, so, Sakura no Uta. When does it start getting good and is Rin as boring as she looks?
>>

>When does it start getting good

I asked myself that right up until I read some spoilers and dropped it.
>>
>>14727769
Are you in the first chaper?
It does get good, yes, although Makoto's route is a drag.
Rin might like you or not, I don't know at what point of the game you are.
But she's not boring.
>>
>>14727789
>Reading spoilers of Sakura no Uta

What does that achieve? The plot isn't even important, I don't think a few spoilers would ruin the game for anyone.
>>
>>14727793
Yes, first chapter. I haven't even run across the last heroine or the lesbian. I'm just not one for the whole childhood friend thing or characters who are as docile as she seems. And the most common way for a character to not be as docile as they seem is to be a yandere which is even worse. Taking that into account, she gets better eventually?
>>
>>14727801
Oh wait, last heroine girl arrived.
>>
>>14727765
>punching his wife in the face
Do the husbands find out in the other games too? I'll probably pick it up for some quick fun.
>>
>>14727798
I just wanted to make sure I was not going to miss anything, I was going to drop it anyways because none of the girls really caught my eye.

>The plot isn't even important
My point exactly.
>>
>>14727808
The very first scene of the second chapter is where shit start to get good.
Makoto's route is boring but everything after that is gold
>>
Just played 人間デブリ~コンナジブンニダレガシタ?~ from Elf.

It's actually really good in both faps and story.

Sora nee-san was much better than her sister though
>>
>>14727809
No clue. I read TM1 to get ready for 3 but 1 was so disappointing (in the sense that NTR was barely given any focus) that I didn't move on to 2 or 3.
>>
>>14727801
She's still docile but she's a horny closet pervert and her interactions with Naoya get pretty amusing based on that, but it still depends on if you personally find that and the dialogues funny.
it doesn't drag on at least, Rin's route isn't long.
>>
>>14727397
There's not a whole lot of need to play them in order. They're mostly nukige after all.
>>
>>14727824
Alright. I've put up with much worse than this for much longer than just a single heroine route, so I can wait that long.
>>
>>14727840
Gotcha, i'll just go for 3 then.
>>
>>14727846
The first chapter isn't that long you won't have to put up for long, the second chapter is like twice longer and good throughout, the individual routes start after that

Thanks, just played through the canon ending. It's been a while since a game hooked me enough to finish it in just a few sittings. I ended up guessing the main twist almost from the beginning, but it was nonetheless an entertaining ride. Excellent pacing.

I originally picked up this game because Akeiro Kaikitan's OP seemed interesting and I wanted to play through the prequel first, and while the H and SoL scenes in this route weren't too abundant I'm not sure if I'm ready to play the others, at least not right after this one if they don't have a similar emotional payoff at the end.
>>
>>14727875
Nanairo in my opinion is a masterpiece of pacing: constantly introducing new characters and moving the main plot along with barely any padding. It's a fucking wonder the same author wrote Gun Knight Girl which is the exact opposite of that.
>>
>>14727896
Somebody could have slapped him up the head and taught him how to pace the story properly after they read Gun Girl Knight
>>
>>14727904
My theory is that the developers of Nanairo Reincarion were more lax on padding, whereas Gun Knight Girl's developers (different company) pushed for way more of it.

How many people here still need to rely on a text hooker while reading?
>>
>>14728331

>>
>>14728331
What do you mean rely? It's not like anyone can know every Japanese word ever. I have it running in the background so I can easily look up stuff in a J-J dictionary if I need to.

Recently I read Monobeno's Alice's After route in one go and I needed to look up around 10 words in it. Does that count as relying on it?
>>
>>14728347
Why are you responding seriously? He is obviously some /vn/ troll. Those guys think that anyone that types "eop" is from here.
>>
>>14728136
If a retard like me can learn enough Japanese to read most of Kishin Hishou with minimal issues in 2 years so can anyone.
>>
>>14728344
They usually spend more time with memes and superfluous arguments than actual reading. I'd imagine that it'd be difficult and unreliable to trust them, even if there are a few exceptions among the group.

>>14728347
How are you able to use it to look up J-J with it? I thought parser and mecab were the only ones that you could use and they happen to be in English.

10 words definitely doesn't count as relying on it. At that point, you could also just google the words without looking them up without expending much time. That's more or less what I mean by not having to rely on it.

>>14728415
Please don't assume that everybody happens to a troll from that absolutely cancerous place.

In short, I've only been reading for a few months and have finished a few untranslated titles from here and then. I recently started Tokyo Necro and while the sentence structure was easy to grasp, there were a number of words from the first scene that I wasn't familiar with. Not having some kind of text hooking problem made me feel a bit helpless when I had to painstakingly search up each word manually every time.

Yes. Like, one game in a year.

I think I answered this question at least 3-4 times in this thread, but yes. Only from the companies I like, and mostly after I have read the game itself though. In short not buying like "Oh this game seems good, lets buy and try it", just for the sake of supporting them so they wouldnt go bankrupt.

I'll preorder the games from a couple of companies that I like.

Poorly and well at the same time. I like how the characters treated it pretty seriously and knew they were their lives were in danger and whatnot. The main problem I had with it was the mere fact that there are only 3 adult characters in the entire game. The "principal", "assistant principal", and the scientist. So, it never really feels like the military. Not to mention their tits are huge which is honestly far more distracting than you would think.

I love the character chemistry in Nanairo, even if the plot is quite shallow. It\s really nice how characters are almost always present even if the mc has relations or intentions for one of them. There\s a moderate, but sufficient amount of sex.

Finished the 罪ノ光ランデヴー trial.
Actually pleasantly surprised. The pacing is pretty nice and the heroines are interesting. The production is also obviously a big plus.

I liked how the trial itself could be considered an entire route.

I haven't played ソレヨリノ前奏詩 but I've looked at egs reviews for it and saw a lot of people saying that if you take the production away from it nothing remains to enjoy and that it has way too much h scenes.
Hopefully the same won't apply to 罪ノ光.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll end up playing the whole thing.

I'd disagree, if you stick solely to Towa's route, the game is a quite good relationship drama game with a strong focus on the main relationship throughout.
It's definitely worth a play if you liked tsuminohi's trial.

I went to try and actually buy the game since it wasn't on nyaa and there seems to be no way for me to do so without installing a VPN or something. For some reason the relationship between Tooru and Natsuha just feels wrong. I feel like it would have been better if they just remained brother and sister and had no romantic feelings for each other. Also I find it odd that they have touched (a tiny bit so far) on the incest thing but not the fact that Tooru is having sex with a child who isn't even old enough to have had her period yet (mental age anyway, the whole IAGS thing changes things a bit). There must be over a 10 year difference in their ages.

Not that it stops me from fapping to the scenes though, I felt Sumi was the best fit for Tooru and had the best route but I find Natsuha more fappable.

>>14734787
Yeah, I was thinking the same as you. I've got to say that I like Hishakaku much more than I expected. When I first saw him I thought it was a bit ridiculous, but he turned out to be a great character.

Also, don't you like the default font?
>>
>>14734970
Yeah, I agree about Hishakaku, he's great. Takijorou too. And Furusoma. Especially Furusoma's voice. What were they thinking? If I heard a voice like that in a forest, I'd probably think it's someone pranking me.

I'm still in Sumi's route, going to start the After part of it now, but yeah, I can imagine how will Natsuha's H scenes be like after seeing the ones with loli Alice.
>parents taught me about sex
>and told me it's something you can't do until you grow up

The writing itself is definetly way less indulgent in this aspect that I presumed. I can't help but wonder if Lose is pandering so much to lolicons because it's simply how their brand turned up and because it's what people wanted for Happy End.
