Check out Maid in Akihabara. It's... well, it's pretty damn bad, but it's also extremely enjoyable. M·A·O (the VA) is in the main role.
Hatsumori Bemars was strangely enjoyable too. It's like Shaolin Soccer, but with idols and softball.

Yeah, the picture shows the problems in the family well. The father only cares about his son because he wants him to go to Koushien for him, while the mother tries to keep the family together. The older daughter on the left hates her father for neglecting her which is also the reason she became a gyaru.

All those (what I previously though were) random plots and just 'additional drama' thrown in to artificially fake a serious dramatic but unrealstic set of events now finally come together very nicely and increasingly forge the main plot. (Within only 1 episode!)

There are a lot of good male actors... but I indeed agree, Eita is off the charts. This guy has been my absolute favourite since the beginning.
Females.. difficult. There are a lot off good ones, some that you have mentioned I would list high myself. Possiblty 'Aoi Yu' is fairly decent aswell, but I am still not sure if its just the cute factor or actual talent. Most of them just dont quite cut it for me. I dont know.
It took me very long and I almost thought I had seen it all but then suddenly (pic), Hikari, this girl.
Saw her first on 'それでも、生きてゆく' Yeah cheesy title but I had to watch it because of Eita anyway.

Eita is very good, yes. What I find most impressive about him is that he often plays normal people, sometimes even cheerful people, but when you see him in an interview or a talk show, he's this extremely gloomy introverted guy who dresses like a bum. So he basically has to play the opposite of what he really is, while guys like Kimura Takuya don't even need to act because they play themselves in every drama.

I feel very indifferent about how things are progressing.
On one episode I did not like the direction things were going at all, even thinking this would ruin it. Then things get turned around so drastically I am hooked again, but for a different reason than previously.
I love it when the things you anticipate to happen turn out to be not the way the director had things planned. That makes shows of incredible value.
It might just be a peronal thing but this time the shift was so huge for me, even changing my feelings towards the entire series twice alongside.

Family Drama, average impact on the viewer. Quite a unique story. Great main actor. Some of the direction is questionable at times.

Some things just felt a little out of place, sadly one childs facial expressions were basically the ones of a moving doll the entire series, but I guess you cannot really count that. All main actors gain a flat 10. Very authentic and real, as expected.
-Directing etc.: 9.5
Minor plot inconsistencies, to be fair though most wont notice it really. Otherwise flawless.
Beautiful visuals and camera-play. Excellent colorsheems as mentioned in earlier posts. Some very unique camera-angles aswell at times, but very fitting. Enjoyed it a lot.
- Music: 7
I consider this to be as important as good directing. Music is probably the best tool to enhance any effect and longevity of a drama.
I mean, whats there to keep you occupied once you got threw it? The music, and if good one will be something you listen to even after years passed.
Originally I'd given it a 5 even. There was really no music to speak of except for one piece. A MAJOR let-down. Although that one piece was very well used, especially towards the end. I felt generous a bit here... Still, with a decent musical score this drama could be off the charts. Such a waste imo.

Simple yet complex and difficult to rate. I enjoyed how the individual pieces eventually came together nicely. There are quite some game-changers that will startle you, overall the main plot was very consistent without big surprises though. Which is not always a bad thing.
The second last scene was the icing on the cake though. This one really leaves an impression. Best scene in the series and one of the best overall I've seen. What a pity, it should have been the last with a subtle fade to black. Again, a better musical score would have pushed this scene even further.
But they decided to slap on a redudant summary scene in the end which REALLY killed the immersion.
Overall very likeable though.
Summary: 8,7 ~> 9/10
Something I never understood:
When an argument takes places and actors almost scream at each other they'll always stop their sentence instantly when someone else starts talking. There never are overlapping sentences and arguments where everyone shouts their opinion around.
I get it, its hard to follow but it would make those scenes SO much more authentic, especially in a family drama... oh well.

It really is kind of a waste If I give this a second thought. After all these years and countless new dramas, Orange days still remains the one with the most impactful OST. Not only did it do the series good, I'd probably go as far as saying it would have been unwatchable without its musical score.
Because the drama, acting and plot itself, after everything I have seen by now is really not something incredible to speak off...
It's so sad, most animes have better scores these days.

For instance, Wakamonotachi 2014, one of the best dramas in my opinion with pretty much the best Japanese actors this generation has to offer (Tsumabuki Satoshi, Eita, Mitsushima Hikari, Aoi Yuu, Nagasawa Masami), got only 7.7% average ratings. That's only about a few more % than those dramas with the lowest ratings. Like everywhere else in the world, the Japanese mainstream has shit taste.

It's made like an old-school drama since it's a remake of an older drama from 1966. Fans of older drama should love this one. The characters are likable. I even liked Nagasawa Masami in this and that should say a lot. Plus, the acting is one of the best I've seen. Of course, it sounds generic as it's basically one of those back-to-the-roots dramas.

Oh, uh, if you didn't like the first 2 episodes, then you won't like the rest of them. After all, the best thing about this one are the lengthy fights between the siblings, both verbally and physically. For someone, who's seen a lot of bad Japanese acting, it's just so nice to see natural conversations that don't sound like they're being read off a script.

Apart from the odd and rushed ending I thought it was okay. It had an original concept and was (thankfully I suppose) quite short.
Other non-mystery/non-romance shows I've liked include:
Toranaide Kudasai! (Don't Shoot! Idol Insiders) - A mockumentary about the creation of a new gravure idol group (Fully subbed)
Limit - The story of a group of high school kids trying to survive in the woods after a bus crash kills their classmates (Fully subbed).
I though Limit ended badly too, but the first 11 eps were a good watch.
