My favorite anime series are surreal, psychological dramas. Stuff like Utena, Lain, NGE, Haibane Renmei, Penguindrum, Texhnolyze. Somewhat weaker (to me personally) titles like Shinsekai Yori, Boogipeop, Key the Metal Idol or Betterman also fit into this category.
So I'm wondering if there are some visual novels like that as well. Closest to that, that I've found would be Forest.

I don't know if my taste is deep but I like works that do have thematic depth. I'm not cynnical and contrarian enough to enjoy things that are "silly, but they are supposed to be!" just for the sake of it.
