His base price is $325, which includes purchasing the desired head mold which takes out $42, and EMS shipping which lets just assume is $25, which has his actual cost of the face up being about $250, which is only $150 above black swan. He also charges an extra $75 if you want an open mouth mod. I think he can charge so much because he clearly has a wealth of experience and in my opinion is the most skilled at replicating a characters design into a face up, whilst others tend to have a generic anime style face up.

Oh yah my thoughts on akihabra Doll Point. First it's small. Second many dolls on display but no photos allowed. Also seeing them changed my opinion or gave me one. First MDD are not terrible. Two white skin DD are sick and terrible looking with the exception of Saber. She some how looks really good. They were sold out of normal skin extra large hands, thankfully not the semi white. Lastly I really want a long pink Doll Point wig.

Utterly hopeless at posing. They have a metal wire frame which breaks if bent too often and the arms and hands in particular don't look all that great in certain positions due to the nature of the wire frame. They really are only good for boob/stomach/thigh/leg enthusiasts.

I have a semi-white skin MDD that I think is a nice colour, but I'm sure the normal skin looks good too. I mostly take photos of my doll, so her skin colour doesn't matter too much to me.
I'm not a big fan of either rena or illya's faceup, so I'd buy the cheaper one and customize it.
CoolCat also sells MDD heads, bodies, and replacement parts. I've considered ordering from them in the past, and may have to get one of their neck skeleton parts, since my doll's neck keeps breaking when I take her head off. Look for the link in the dollfaq.

They're pretty fast, at least for me, as a Canadian living in California, where Volks USA is based. I'd probably use the international site when I move back to Canada, though I'd still pay in USD.

Volks offers several different stands. One shitty plastic one, one with a wooden base and one with a metal base. The wooden and metal ones are pretty nice but rather heavy. The coolcat stand has an acrylic base and is nice as well and also significantly less heavy.
I prefer the coolcat stand but it really comes down to preference.
Today I tried to take a forced perspective shot but I think I got the scale wrong because she looks too huge.

Do Pure Neemo hands really snap as easily as I've read? If this happens, what do? I have a body coming in for a custom doll I'm sending to a long time customer for Christmas, but I don't want them to break the hand and freak out because muh ooak broke or something.

That calms my nerves at least. I doubt they'd really be playing around with a custom doll. As far as I know, most of my customers kind of just consider them doll sculptures.
The reason I was concerned to begin with is because I was reading up on the XS body (the one I ordered) and found that many people had an issue with the wrists snapping when they changed the hands, even if they were taking care to not do this. This particular custom is supposed to come with a few extra hands as well, but I would hate to tell the customer "Hey, I did the nails on these hands. They're very cute and you paid extra for this, but you can't actually use them because the wrists break really easily."
I may also be freaking out as this is the most elaborate order I've ever done, and I would really like everything to be perfect since this is one of my best customers. They also requested it before Christmas, which isn't the problem as the head has been done and the body should be here any day now. The problem is that this is probably a gift, which means it'll have to be even more perfect than usual.

They requested it. It's a Blythe/Pure Neemo hybrid, and this body looks far better than any other hybrid I've seen and phenomenally better than the godawful original Blythe body. I have no idea if they're aware of this issue already actually, so I guess I should bring that up. Duh. I think I stressed out too much and forgot to use my common sense.
I would rather not risk ordering a different body if they're not aware of this issue since I doubt it would get here on time/even if it did the shipping would be ridiculous, so does doing the manicures for free sound like a good idea? At that point, it's up to them if they're willing to risk changing the hands out, and I won't have the guilt of charging someone for a bunch of extra hands with manicures they can't use.

Awww but here is the problem. Look at this. Looks nice and white, the light is more even looking in real life. But my strips don't have white LEDs. It had red, green, and blue LEDs. So along with white you can do any of the three colours and mix them. It's very cool.

When I have it just red or green things are cool looking. But when I just have blue on. Well things are bothersome. Half my squid girls glow orange, skylander bases light up like Christmas and my Miku figma gets all kinds of odd.

pigments don't necessarily have to be fluorescent from UV, they may also convert blue light to lower frequencies.
of course that doesn't rule out that it's UV.

You could always try the white t-shirt test. If you put a shirt in there and it glows, you have a UV producing black light. There's also the CZ test to see if the lights are producing a lot of UV. If you have a cubic zirconia laying around, (or else you can get one for a few dollars at any department store's jewelry section), put it underneath the blue light. If it glows green/a bright florescent color, you got yourself a UV producing light. The brighter the glow, the more UV there is. There's also testers and UV strips you can get for it as well, though check reviews to make sure they actually work.
But like other anon said, the pigments in some of these might just be because of the color of light and not necessarily because of UV rays. This is more likely the case since you do have white objects in there and they aren't really reacting. Also, if you got these strips from a reputable place, you're probably safe.

Imagine something like what happens when you wear a white shirt to laser tag - it glows a bright blue because the black light gives off some amount if UV, (although small in those settings). Pic related, think like what happens to glow-in-the-dark doll eyes. That same green should happen to CZs in the presence of UV radiation. However, if the UV ink in your card didn't glow, 99% sure it's just blue light.
