Equipment feels really insignificant, at least personally. I farmed 15 fish in a day from 3-3, stopped to do other stuff and then got 5 in a row the following day. Only equipment I have is sonars, and in the latter run I had half the amount as the first time.

Really I think they key is to not try and just bang the event out; farm a couple fish, then go back to your regular stuff for a while and try for some more fish the next day or so. Its three weeks after all.
