Tokyo isn't really all that expensive.
You can do pretty well with around 5,000-6,000 yen for a room. Maybe even 2,000-3,000 yen in a hostel if you don't mind that kind of stuff.
Restaurants can be anywhere around 500-900 yen.
Add any extra costs you might have to that and that's pretty much how much it would cost for a day in Tokyo.

I'm going to Tokyo on monday, rented a clean apartment for 90k yen close to a subway station inside the yamanote line.
90k yen makes it out to 3k yen a day, pretty good deal if you ask me. 20k of it is also a one time fee, would have been cheaper for long term stay.
You could get even cheaper, but I prefer having some comforts.
