Today in /balk/s geopolitics debate club: EU sanctions against Russia.

1. Are they working? What were their goals and if those goals were met, or if they will be met soon.
2. Are they worth it for us? What are Bulgaria, Romania and Greece losing, and what are they gaining from these sanctions.
3. Are they moral? The ethic of using economy, basically recruiting private businesses and human livelihoods, to solve state disputes by pressuring another country's privately held businesses and citizens.

Hi 1999 kid
>>
>>59128994
Not much to say. Life was cheaper, and duller.
Mundane everyday stuff were all easier to get, and everyone had plenty, but everything else was either very hard to acquire or illegal.

Basically instead of having rich and poor, we were all lower middle class.
Except for the party, of course, they were better off.

Still, technology and consumer electronics have gotten so much better in the last 20 years that the times of communism look terrible simply because we didnt have cheap powerful computers, mobile phones, internet and so on.
Consumer goods science has advanced a lot since communism ended here, and we live better now because of that. Not that its related.
>>
>>59129292
>Mundane everyday stuff were all easier to get, and everyone had plenty, but everything else was either very hard to acquire or illegal.
The Six Paradoxes of Communism:
1. Everyone has a job, but no one actually does any work.
2. No one actually does any work, but production targets are always reached.
3. Production targets are always reached, but the shops are always empty.
4. The shops are always empty, but everyone has all they need.
5. Everyone has all they need, but no one is happy.
6. No one is happy, but they always vote the Communists back in.

(Russian joke)
>>
>>59129391
Do you have those Russian paid trolls in your country?
>>
>>59129391
>1. Everyone has a job, but no one actually does any work.

It strange how this very big, huge hurdle in the way of theoretical communism was reached before the communism itself was reached.
USSR had private property, inheritance, monetary system, so it wasn't communist at all, just socialist, yet it managed to achieve the communist bottleneck of people not being motivated to seek greatness and improvement.

There is a "pure communism" example with the puritans who went to live in North America in, from memory, New Columbia and New Plymouth.
No private property, everyone works all the land, all the produce is collected in a big common granary and distributed evenly. The produce was shit, because people didn't work hard.
Then when the land was distributed and everyone worked for themselves and kept their produce, there was an instant 220% increase in produce, from one year to the next.
>>
>>59129391
Lol, I'll remember that one.
>>
>>59129461
>yet it managed to achieve the communist bottleneck of people not being motivated to seek greatness and improvement
Didn't they simply kill off your elites and intellectuals, also forcefully ripping away their wealth/property?
>>
>>59129461
got anything to read/whatch regarding that?
>>
>>59129607
>your

Mine, as in the Bulgarian elite?
Yes, when communism came into power the elite was dismantled and killed or forced into suicide, since they were all nationalist military types who believed deeply in concepts of honor.
The provided excuse was that the fascist regime was being purged, and you can argue that case, although I don't believe it.
You have to remember, that communism was forced on Bulgaria. We were defeated, taken over, and a government forced on us. People who disagreed were killed or jailed.
In time with good propaganda and slavic brotherhood culture the Bulgarian people learned to love, and passionately defend communism, but this wasn't something that naturally developed here. It was brought from abroad, with guns and tanks backing it.
>>
>>59129607
They did a lot more than that. They fucked us up completely. An interesting fact - before the communism took hold in the country, we were richer than Austria... and now the difference is staggering.
>>
>>59129461
Sidenote. USSR actually had some successful communes made by some orthodox preachers(kind words, prayer and appeals to the greater good and christian charity&love surprisingly work better than threats and the state forcibly confiscating all your stuff), but the soviets were like "the religionists are making us look bad. shut it down!", so it ended fast.
We also have The Farm:
>The Farm is an intentional community in Lewis County, Tennessee, near the town of Summertown, Tennessee,[1] based on principles of nonviolence, and respect for the Earth. It was founded in 1971 by Stephen Gaskin, and 320 San Francisco hippies;[
>Signs started to appear between 1975 and 1979 that the Tennessee community's weak infrastructure and low income was insufficiently developed to support such a continuously large influx of new members. The Foundation went increasingly into debt. Furthering the Farm's growing pains was a baby boom resulting from the large number of young adults of childbearing age combined with an enthusiastic family philosophy being put into practice. Insufficient capacity of sewage infrastructure resources led to some giardia outbreaks and malcontent. As the Farm's population peaked, a disproportionately higher number of children or less-skilled residents could not significantly contribute to increasing the community's economy.
>In 1983, due to financial difficulties and also a challenge to Stephen Gaskin's leadership and direction, the Farm changed its residential community agreement and began requiring members to support themselves with their own income rather than to donate all income to The Foundation central corporation.[5] This decollectivization was called the Changeover, or the Exodus.
>. Those who could not adapt to the new dynamics of The Changeover found it difficult to remain. Those who had forged independent business opportunities or had reduced overhead could afford to stay.
cont.
>>
>>59129694
Exactly, you all lost something in exchange.
>>59129696
srsly?
>>
>>59129720
>The $400,000 plus debt was paid off after several years and the community became debt-free. An entrepreneurial spirit took hold, and numerous small businesses were established to provide support for the residents. Many members went back to school to get degrees in the medical field, and many now work at clinics and hospitals throughout Middle Tennessee.
So, when they actually free enterprise work, instead of "let's share everything, mon!" stuff improved.

>richer than Austria;

You can't imagine how much wealth the Soviets stole from our country directly and indirectly, man.

Sec, let me find the GDP per capita map of 1945.
>>
>>59129610
No one single book, I've just read different stuff in different studies.
Just read in general, and you will gain understanding of how stuff works, or how it was meant to work.

>>59129720
An easier to examine example is the early kibbutz system in Israel.
They were communist to the point of now owning clothes. You'd get in in the morning, go to the clothes store, get some clothes, spend your day, and in the evening return the clothes to be washed. Someone else might use these clothes tomorrow, they aren't tied to you in any way.
There was also a communal system there or children. You didn't own your child, and it was raised by women whos job it was to specialize in raising children. Since not every parent is expected to be good at this, to have the skills or the time, all children were just kept int he children building with professional babysitters, and you could go visit your child there.

Hard to judge how successful it was economically, since it was very heavily subsidized by the government, people were practically paid to live in such a way in what were essentially war zone borders. However culturally it was well accepted, many people moved out but some also moved in, preferring this lifestyle.

>>59129805
The Soviets didn't steal wealth from Bulgaria, in fact they invested here. It wasn't evil Russians ruining our country on purpose, it was incompetent party leaders ruining it by accident.

>2. Yes. Russia is the greatest danger to our progress. We are not losing anything.

Quick example of us losing.
Poland and the Netherlands no longer dump their trash cheese in Russia.
So they dump it here, at even lower prices.
This means that our milk producers, farmers and cheese producers are nearing bankruptcy.
Business fails, less taxes. People go unemployed, more social benefits to be paid. This is a strain on the budget.
Similar examples can be made for apples and vegetables, for example.

We gain much, but we also lose.

>The Soviets didn't steal wealth from Bulgaria, in fact they invested here. It wasn't evil Russians ruining our country on purpose, it was incompetent party leaders ruining it by accident.

It's absurd that you think so. The Soviets installed the commie party here, an illegal terrorist organization that performed terrorist acts in our country. This is an indirect damage to the economy.

The direct damage comes from the fact that they STOLE our national gold, they forbid us from researching the Black Sea for gas and oil (which we are doing now), they killed our political elite, you know, the guys that know the most about how to run a country, and they made us a satelite state which no foreign policy of it's own and dependent entirely on the SU.

The communist party in Bulgaria was to blame for many things, but the main culprit remains the Soviet Union, and you'll be foolish to think that the BKP is the only party to blame for it all. They had absolutely no support here before Stalin paved their way to power.

Sorry, I forgot to talk about the image I posted. Ok, this was Bulgaria at the start of WW2, after 3 wars, 2 of which absolutely devastating (BW2 and WW1) in which we were the losers and had to pay a lot of reparations and give up a lot of territory. As you may know, the reparations from the first WW1 were pretty severe.

And this Bulgaria, which less territory and having survived 3 wars, is still not far away from WE. Compare it to now and the difference is night and day.

You mistake what I mean by party. Not just the Bulgarian communist party, but the overall soviet area of influence communist regime, they were all taking orders from one place anyway.

>the fact that they STOLE our national gold
Not a fact, since it isn't true. This happened to Romania, not to us.
>they forbid us from researching the Black Sea for gas and oil
This isnt theft, its incompetence.
>they killed our political elite, you know, the guys that know the most about how to run a country,
This again is a question of incompetence. They "purged the nazis", and didn't know what to do later. Good intentions, no competence.
>and they made us a satelite state which no foreign policy of it's own and dependent entirely on the SU
This is just ideology. It is the price paid for the investments we got from USSR. I don't think this price is worth it, but people in charge at the time thought it was. I consider them incompetent for thinking so.

Overall its not Russian theft, its communist incompetence and inability to act out their designs, as well as flaws with those designs.
>>

>please stop disagreeing with me!!!

This isn't how you argue, love.

"We are not losing anything." is wrong.
We lose in the tourism and agricultural spheres, which are important for the economy.
We lose in the energy and fuels spheres, which are important for the economy.
We divide into two fighting camps, which is bad for our nation and culture.

We are in fact losing quite a bit from the sanctions. You can argue its worth it, that we gain more, that long term we look to profit, but that doesn't change the fact that we are also losing.
These sanctions aren't free for us, they aren't an obvious clean good idea, arguments can easily be made both ways.

By the way, I support your first point, that the sanctions need to be tougher. I am just not delusional enough to think they are free.

Yeah and it's too late now to ever catch up.

There's just no way any ex commie country can economically compete with the Western EU countries who've had several decades to establish successful corporations, brands and industries.

When you look at the east european countries that are doing well (Estonia, Slovakia, Czech Republic) they're mostly doing that well because of all the foreign capital which comes from the west, obviously.

The only possible equalizer would be that the west falls economically because of some catastrophic event and that would have a major effect on us too.
>>
>>59130204
Nah, .
Plus, they kicked my great-grandpa out of his land, harrased grandpa for being from a family of empoverished richfag and later chipped away his health due to the fear of losing his home to make room for commieblocks, so i have a burning hatred for communism.
>900 dollars
That was worth a lot more then.
But still, we have a double development lag compared to before.
>>
>>59130378
>Yeah and it's too late now to ever catch up.

Absolutely false. Now more than ever new industries show up from thin air almost.
Google came from nothing. If Google had started in Croatia, its taxes would considerably increase the national budget, bring tourists, increase employment, bring prestige, etc.

You can't tell where the next big thing will start, and if it did start here it would be like jumping 2 stairs forward. If we "cheat" like that, taking a few steps in a row with big leaps from newly developing industries, we will catch up.

Now the discussion should be how do we promote the startups of such innovations, and keep them here with low corporate tax and by providing a well educated, mobile workforce.

26 ton of gold was stolen from Bulgaria, mate. Google it.

>This isnt theft, its incompetence.
It's not really. They wanted us to buy Soviet gas and oil and not use our own, mate. It's far from incompetence, they wanted us entirely dependent on them.

>This again is a question of incompetence. They "purged the nazis", and didn't know what to do later. Good intentions, no competence.
The fuck are you talking about, bruh? That's far from incompetence, again. They wanted to exterminate anyone who can oppose them. KIlled hundreds of Bulgarians so that they can indoctrinate the rest more easily. And it actually worked.

>This is just ideology. It is the price paid for the investments we got from USSR. I don't think this price is worth it, but people in charge at the time thought it was. I consider them incompetent for thinking so.
Do you even know the meaning of "incompetent"? I don't think you do. It was a win for them, it was not incompetence. They didn't invest, they actually extracted from our iconomy. If by "investing" you mean "steal" basically, then yeah, they invested alright. So much investments that they set us back a hundred years.

Actually, we can still have quite a comfy existence if we keep this up.

b)being small;

It isn't wrong, simply because you didn't even quote me correctly. Let me fix that by quoting properly:
>they killed our political elite, you know, the guys that know the most about how to run a country,
>This again is a question of incompetence. They "purged the nazis", and didn't know what to do later. Good intentions, no competence.
This means that the people were killed for ideological reasons, and the problem comes from the incompetence of those who replaced them. I am not implying that the murder was a sign of incompetence. This was obviously ideology. Communists removing fascists. The incompetence comes later, when the inexperienced new leaders fail to drive the country forward.
You are misquoting me, and strawmanning me, by claiming I am stating the murder itself is somehow incompetent? I don't even understand how that would work, clearly they were very competent in the murdering of the old elite, since they were indeed all killed.

>Google came from nothing
Google came from a PhD project at one of the best CS universities in the world.

It also had a shit ton of capital poured into it by investors which recognised its potential. Something that's very hard to do in a country where most citizens are poor (east europe)

Also the taxes and regulations would stop it from ever growing like that. There's a reason why literally every influential computer and internet related firms are American. They utterly dominate that industry. Even western european countries have failed to produce similarly gigantic companies.

The way to success would be to go the way of South Korea IMO.
First you invite foreign companies and foreign capital through cheap labour.
Then you start relaxing the economy in the hopes that you might make some mega company that will gain capital and be able to spread and innovate (Samsung).

But it might be too late for that. It's impossible to compete with Chinks.
We also lack the huge population.

>26 ton of gold was stolen from Bulgaria, mate.
Is there anyone they traded with that the soviets didn't steal from?

Speaking of russians requisitioning stuff:
The visit was short, about 15 minutes, and Tsar Alexander II welcomed the crowd and always gave instructions to chant the country's national music. Around the same lines was carried out and the welcome given to the Tsar in Adjud Station, where two of the city's prominent ladies offered him flowers and a speech in his honor in French. Contemporary documents in May recorded an humorous episode, meaning that after leaving the Tsar, the mayor of Focsani wrote to the prefect of the city that remained at loss of a silver tray, on which was the salt and bread that was greeted Alexander II, tray "confiscated" by the Russians, according to their custom. Prefecture was also asked to contribute so the amount of 20 lei to cover the costs silver tray.

True. It is a big issue. I wish the government would have the central bank lend money with low rate to such perspective projects, it is how the famed Japanese economical miracle happened.

Bulgaria has favorable taxes for such a project to appear. Low corporate tax, lower than USA, and scales well with the amount of money you are working with.

Incompetent implies that you just lack the skills to do something productive which isn't true in this case, The communists killed our political elite not because they were incompetent, but because they wanted to rule unopposed. >Did you even read what was written in those articles?
Yes, it was the same stuff in all of them, and all of them copy-paste it from a deleted blog post on Dolce Welle - BG.
It has zero value as is. People saying things, and not proving them.

>they didn't want us to check upon our sea territories for oil and gas, when there was evidence to do so
That's incompetence, because they would've benefited from that. The USSR and Bulgarian markets were very, very heavily connected, and any wealth entering ours would in turn enter theirs. The USSR simply didn't have the technology to work these resources, and it wouldn't import any from the USA.
If they could've done something that would've benefited them, and chose not to do it, that's textbook incompetence.

>No, we don't depend on them more now than before.
But we do. Russian oil and gas drives our electric power. It is also why even though we are "sanctioning" Russia, we are still buying tremendous amounts of these. If we stop, we will simply not have enough electricity, nor is there enough in the area to buy.

>I posted before
But I didn't say anything new in that later post. I only explained in greater detail what was an obvious point.
Incompetence not in conducting the purge, but incompetence in replacing the elite. This is obvious, common sense stuff, that you could've deduced by reading my original post, the one before yours, that you responded to.

>The communists killed our political elite not because they were incompetent

They were incompetent in replacing these people, not in killing them. They were very proficient in killing.

Yes, that's it. But soon we are to raise welfare as well with this new blue-pilled youth eager to enter the politics.

If you are willing to read a mind-blowing story, be careful here. If you have gone through high-school recently you might know what I am talking about - there are some kids from other classes who make announcements, luring other students to their project.

Scarcely had this class started when a male and a female students entered the classroom willing to make an announcement. They said there is a project that bases on multiculturalism, which gives you a diploma that helps you STUDYING ABROAD.

And by this project there are going to be a 19 years-old Pakistani boy and a 20 years-old Indian girl in Romania. They will try to integrate here and maybe they will be living here. Of course, every mindless sheep amongst my classmates was very content at hearing of this fact.

It would be if it weren't trying to break into every country's intimacy by trying to make it to obey foreign customs, to obey foreign rules and to form United States of Europe. Also, Jewry is an enemy for this European "Union", it doesn't try to protect Europe anymore from the invading forces. In earlier centuries there weren't an European Union, though Poland stood for AH in 1513 at Mohacs (IIRC) and in 1683 at Vienna. That won't happen anymore, hence this is not an "union".

>>59131381
No, but as my class is mostly female, these sheep didn't talk for themselves. Tell me, how bright and what political views and history knowledge did girls have when you were in the 10th? None, they barely can choose a political view by themselves at 20.

That means they were eager to get into "multicultural experience", without thinking about its risks.

If they could've done something that would've benefited them, and chose not to do it, that's textbook incompetence.
You've obviously read absolutely nothing about the subject. Anton Todorov showed Soviet documents in which they explicitly forbid us from researching our oil and gas in our sea territories. The point of this is that they sold they're oil and gas at larger prices. We actually brought cheaper gas from Algeria than the Soviet Union. Piss off with your communist dogma.

>But we do. Russian oil and gas drives our electric power. It is also why even though we are "sanctioning" Russia, we are still buying tremendous amounts of these. If we stop, we will simply not have enough electricity, nor is there enough in the area to buy.
My god, you're dense. You think you do because you have the information now, and yes, we're still EXTREMELY dependent on them for energy, but have you heard of the planned pipelines from Azerbaijan, or Qatar, or the interconnector from Greece that's being developed and will sell us cheaper gas? Guess not

Irrelevant. You quoted me after I already made my post. I can't go into details since my post is getting too large.

>They were incompetent in replacing
Thing is, you never said that in your previous posts. And you're wrong again, they didn't replace them with the smart people exactly because they DIDN'T want to. Georgi Dimitrov put his friends in high places not because he was incompetent. You're an idiot though, that much is obvious.

believing in god is right as long you don't shove religion in people's faces.
go fuck yourself now.

If there is an all-knowing god, he knows about all the evil. The christian god exists out of time, so he even knows about evil before it happens.
If there is an all powerful god, he can stop the evil, which he would know exists.
And if he is all good, then he would want to stop this evil, which he knows of and can stop.

So he either doesn't know about the evil, or can't stop it, or doesn't want to stop it. In any case, this proves the christian idea of god wrong, and it was done before christianity was even a thing.
Yes, your religion was proven wrong before it was made up.
>>
>caring if God exists or not
Why do people bother? It doesn't affect your life in the slightest.
>>
>>59135013
No. Evil exists to tempt, test and make the righteous stronger and more determined. I can see that you are basing your asumptions on things you've never read.

Wow lads, proud achievement. In the era of religious apathy, some people shove their lack of faith into our faces. Like we give a shit anyway

So an all knowing, all powerful and all good god allows for children to be born deformed and in constant agony, and die after several years of suffering, machine aided existence, only to lead to their parents suiciding themselves in depression?

I imagine this was so that the baby, which never reached a state of comprehension enough to contemplate religion, could toughen up and be worthy of haven?

Seriously, you can't excuse things like child mortality or genocide by saying its there to tempt and harden us.

If he exists, and is all knowing, and is all powerful, and is all good, then evil shouldn't exist.
Why would an all good, all powerful, all knowing entity permit evil?

Its illogical, and reasonable people don't treat illogical myth as fact.

It also doesn't mean your soul is being tested by the blue sky, or you are being hardened by its blueness.
The existence of abortion proves there is no all knowing, all good, all powerful god, for example. Such an entity wouldn't allow abortion.

Its not about the killer, its about the victim. Why is it allowed for this soul to be killed so early, before it can become christian?

Why are Bulgarians so stupid? You can throw any bait here and they're the only ones who get triggered. Like the greek who talks about slavs, Bulgarians always hook his baits. No one else gives a shit. Always them.
>>

>good-bad
Define these. One can do "bad" believing they are doing "good". One can harm in self defense, or while defending others, or while falsely believing to be defending others.

Once you base your views on "good and bad", they are more or less useless.

And all powerful too? Or not?
Christianity demands that he also be all powerful.
And if he is all knowing, all seeing and all powerful, he simply would remove evil and judge all worthy.

He has 3 major traits, its not a fucking phone book of them.
Yes, someone who is ALL GOOD, and ALL KNOWING, and ALL POWERFUL would not permit evil to exist. He would know it does, and want it not to, and have the power to remove it.
