I read somewhere that Faroese people find it easier to read English and Danish than Faroese because the literary language is so different from the spoken one.

In younger texts not only is the 1st person sg. -umk replaced by the 2nd/3rd person sg. form, but a bewildering variety of suffixes is found as well as or in place of -sk, -umk. The more common are -zk (which spreads from its original domain, cf. above), -s, -z, -st and -zt; hybrids such as 1st sg. -umsk, -ums also occur.
Ultimately, the -st form replaces all the others, and is the one used in modern Icelandic, Faroese and Norwegian nynorsk.

if you like linguistics here's a fun factoid
in Icelandic there is a phenomenon called "dative dependency" or "þágufallssýki" which means that people overuse the dative at the expense of the accusative
especially in quirky verbs that require an accusative subject
ex. 'Mig langar' -> 'Mér langar'
(Me (accusative) wants) -> (Me (dative) wants)
since there are few hard rules that say which quirky verb demands an accusative subject and which demand a dative subject

This is interesting, because in Ancient Greek it's the same thing. Verbs in middle voice also function as passive; though in later dialects in Ancient Greek only certain verbs had a passive.

Und das heute umso eher, als wir in Brugmanns Grundriss der vergleichenden Grammatik der idg. Sprachen und in der Kurzen vergleichenden Grammatik der idg. Sprachen von demselben Verfasser eine Kodifizierung der Resultate besitzen, die in nunmehr 100 jähriger Arbeit für die Erkenntnis der gemeinsamen Grundsprache gewonnen sind.

(sure thing my german brother!, Tilburgs is spoken in the city of tilburg and its vicinity, it is a west brabantian dialect like bredaas or rijes. I do not really know what to type. When i said that tilburgs is the prettiest dialect i was actually lying a bit because it actually sounds like cancer but that doesn't matter to me :^))

Similar in German, the dative is swallowing up the genitive case. It's also not unlikely that the nominative and accusative cases will merge in a not so distant future (it has already happened in South-Western dialects).
Also, afaik, Low German has already merged dative and accusative, but I don't really see that happening in other dialects .
