I identify with the parts that are relevant to my life, my family haven't lived in India since before independence, India today is very different to the snapshot of India that my extended family has clung to.

I don't even think your gross indifference is Indian culture 2bh. The Indian culture I know promotes Seva, promotes critical thinking towards regressive traditions (we have a really fucking rich history of people calling dumb stuf out) and promotes not being attached to material/temporary comforts. Obviously these are ideals and I'm not surprised if people sway from them, but in India the indifference is disgusting. Maybe its because too many people hold regressive views about caste and status or stuff about karmic retribution, maybe just out of poverty (not just monetarily) in general.
