English is a weird case.
We have a thing called "anaphora" which is the repetition of a set of words for emphasis. e.g. "never shall I forget that night... never shall I forget that smoke... never shall I forget the little faces of the children... "
Then we have weird lexical ambiguities not intended for emphasis. e.g. "I could tell he had had a great time at the circus".
So in the end, english doesn't really "repeat" the same words consecutively for emphasis, but as a literary device people do use repetition to make emphasis. It's not common in everyday conversation.

(We can put accent to what we want to emphasis to, but it might give impolite impression to others for some cases. That's why we don't usually put accents on the word, I think.)

One of the differences between English and Japanese is that the former is a stress-timed language and the latter is a syllable-timed language.

I think japanese has to repeat things (like 色々、中々、じろじろ見る。。。) because you don't have a lots of sounds so all the words end up having a lots of homophones (think of いる for instance)。

that makes a lot of sense actually, my partner is japanese and they have told me in the past that most japanese sounds follows the same emphasis / syllable, so repeating a world for emphasis makes a lot of sense here.
it's interesting, because i remember learning 小倉百人一首 and i don't think there was much repetition in those.
