Hello foreighnfag!

Let's take a trip to the magcal world of Toki Pona!

toki pona is a minimalist conlang with a vocabulary of around 120 words and roughly a dozen of grammar rules. It takes about an hour to start swearing and about a week to start swearing well in toki pona.

ITT, let's see if it is useable as a pidgin (one of the reasons it was invented for), excercise in semantical deconstruction (that's another reason) and translate boardspeak in toki pona!

Lessons: http://tokipona.net/tp/janpije/okamasona.php or https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Updated_jan_Pije%27s_lessons
Word list: http://tokipona.net/tp/ClassicWordList.aspx

http://sitelen-pona.herokuapp.com/

By popular request, all the rest of conlangs can be discussed here (although our conlang mastermind is asleep at the moment).

It's neat. Seems like that thing has bots which trawl through twitter etc. and posts it there.

Many people already have slack accounts anyway.

(Just so that no hopes are set too high: the (Western) Lojban community is tiny. The IRC, Slack, and Telegram rooms are all one and the same, held together by a couple of bots, and it's common for the room to be silent for half the day.)

How is it in Asia?
>>
>>52690774
No first hand experience, but there is a reasonably active Japanese community with translated and original textbooks and published Lojban works.

I'm trying to improve my Spanish and want to play an MMO or something similar. I've looked into Runescape, which I used to play years ago, but they seem to have stopped supporting Spanish language servers. I've been playing League of Legends, but the game is cancerous and doesn't offer many opportunities to read the text.

Are there any other decent free-to-play games in Spanish?

All I can say is it's a hobby and it's pretty fun if you're kind of nerdy already. Most people into it are friendly. I also like the fact that I now have lots of online friends in countries that would be considered rare flags here, e.g. lots of African countries and lots of people from Asia. I like chatting with someone casually and then find out they are from Madagascar and would be happy to have me visit them someday. Pic related, it's some of the Esperanto speakers from East Timor, which I assume is not a common flag on /int/.

You should look around on Facebook and Ipernity. I don't want to give out a bunch of my friends' names but I found most of them on those sites. The countries where most African peeps seem to be from are Demoratic Republic of the Congo, Togo, Benin, and Burundi. They also tend to use "old" looking websites but they keep them updated. I used to have a friend who was in DR Congo, fleeing as a refugee from a war or something in another country and I haven't heard from him in years :S

Rude question: Do African Esperantists find the language to be excessively Eurocentric or is that something that only bothers Americans?

The African Esperanto speakers that I have talked with haven't mentioned that, and from that I can tell they often seem to speak French, among several other languages, and when in doubt seem to mix French and Esperanto a little bit but with no complaint. And also almost every African esperanto speaker I have talked to seems to be religious or at least likes to add "God bless you" and "my dear friend" and other things like that to their letters.

I have definitely spoken with Asian esperanto speakers who say that aspects of the language are difficult for them specifically because thy dont have a european language background. I may have saved a post like that because I'm an autist

This is the "Malagasa Campaign for Korea 2017", it was tl;dr for me but it's pretty much the Madagascar club looking for people to sponsor one of their club members, to that they can send one young person to the Esperanto congress that's going to be in Korea in 2017.

This is my favorite picture because everyone looks pretty funny in their traditional clothing but it looks fun. This was at the congress in Vietnam.

It says they need about 2500 euros to cover the flight and varous expenses, the candidate they choose will not just go to the congress but will also take the fluency exam, get to know some active people in esperanto affairs to gain some useful experience for arraging their organization back in Madagascar.

Here is a guy posting from Togo a few days ago, google translated:

On 18 December 2015 was a special day in Institute Zamenhof. While the students celebrated the end of the first quarter, Esperantists going the way of Zamenhof and therefore working for the spread and use of Esperanto acquainted within Institute Zamenhof. Those Esperanto speakers came to Togo from several countries of the world. If one is Centrafikano now living in Cameroon, another is DRKongolandano now living in Burundi and Rwanda. Oh, yes third is malagaso and came from Madagascar. More is now expected. This already come impromptu found again at the same table with additional Esperantist, Italian, living in Svislando.

It doesn't say on there, but that first email adress they listed is a French guy who is apparently handling the contributions for them, you could probably email him to find out. In my experience when I have sent stuff to African esperantists it's usually through other means than Paypal although I think I have used Paypal with someone before.

What should I do, learn French because it's our second official language or learn Spanish because of muh heritage?
>>
>>52751986
I can send between $50 and $100 USD. It isn't much but my insurance increased and work will be sparse during January.
>>
>>52751997
Learn Spanish. French is only good for France and Africa.
>>
>>52752010
Neat that's nice of you. I sent I think $30 to the students in Benin, so one kid could buy their school materials. That was all I had to spare at the time but they still emailed me to thank me and mentioned me in their little end of the school year newsletter thing thanking me among the other smaller contributers. I didn't realize they even had a newsletter. Felt good man. Now I have come up a little and I think it would be cool to support these Madagascar guys, I want to see if one of their candidates might be someone I know then I would definitely like to help send them.

>>52751997
I think Spanish is more useful, and you will be able to fairly easily understand French when you know English and Spanish.

French will make Spanish trivial

I don't understand why anyone would want to learn a made up language. But a Swede wrote to me in something called Medslovanski and it was alright. But only because it's not really made up, it just takes words from all Slavic languages.
