I posted to Toki Pona thread the "Tower of Babel" in Kartuwale, a conlang made by me. I would like to have some feedback about it for self-improvement, although this is just a personal language (and thus something might sound right or logical only in my ears)

Kartuwale has drawn inspiration out of Toki Pona, and has similar principe of being minimal, but it has it's own vocabulary and grammar very much unlike Toki Pona. Vocabulary is a priori, while grammar is somewhat based on Finnish, Chinese and Basque. It has currently around 550 words, of which around 200 are root words.

Ule karo waletu wate'ortuwate pe watewalewate.

I can translate something into it if you want.

>>

Also desu I will read any post you make going into detail about grammar. It's been years since I have made my own conlang project but it's fun reading about others. Also, when people in my house aren't trying to sleep, I will try making a vocaroo of something in your conlang if you want.

Actually, I have designed an alphabet for Kartuwale. "Kartute Otoru" is a featural alphabet (means that letters representing similar phonemes are similar too).

Front vowels have for example the markings in the left side of the base and back vowels in the right side of the vowel. The ring represents that the phoneme behind the letter is an approximant (j,l,w) and letters representing stops (k,p,t) have a line in the upper side of a letter. The letters of same category differ from the position they are pronounced in the mouth.

"P", for example, is pronounced in the lips so the line points to the left and "K" is pronounced in the throat so the line points to the right.
>>
>>52068586
This look very funny and interesting. How are the different letters pronounced?

Toki pona is the easiest to study and is actually fun.

We make macros in it and sometimes play 'guess an X by description in toki pona'.

I've seen people say that Esperanto is easy to learn. What specifically makes it easy to learn for you? It looks like a weird slavic language to me.
>>
>>52079715
g-give back eastern romania
>>
>>52080068

It's easier to learn than natural languages because it's planned and has no (or very few) special cases (hello there French!)

Doesn't look Slavic to me, more like Romance.
>>
>>52080099

Nope.

You know these Dacia cars? They are huge here (Renault facelifts them and sells as Renault). I have a Sandero.
>>
I don't think Esperanto can be considered a constructed language just like Klingon and stuff. It's definitely a living language evolving like natural languages.
>>
>>52081988

Even if it is, it's still young, innocent and ordered.

No phonetic shifts, no grammatical forms dropped leaving chaos behind, no major lexical changes.

Even if it's actively spoken, for another half a century it can be considered planned language FWIW.

The 7th lesson is over. I'd like to say... this ancient lang is toki pona-like in some way! For example, a sentence:
>igi.anu cu bi.n.kij
[igi.anu] means "his/her eye"
It's an object, those words are in absolutive case.
Now we're going to the "verb":
[cu bi.n.kij] he rubbes/ed
bi - is a locative marker, i.e. the doing is in the place where object is.
.n. - is for 3rd singular object (patience, since Sumerian is ergative lang, nog nominative). "he ..did.."
AND NOW!
cu - is a noun which means "hand"
kij - is a verb which means "to seek"
cu ... kij - to seek with a hand = to rub!
The same way we get:
gu ... de - to pour (with?) the voice = to speak

>>52090030
You're close enough to the truth, finn.
>>
>>52069986
Are you pretending that you're not posting on a forum for autists?
>>
>>52080068
Well, firstly, as someone who speaks Spanish it was really easy because the majority of the vocabulary is from French and Latin. Secondly, the grammar is very easy. You don't conjugate for person (e.g. you don't have estoy, estas, esta, estan--you have only "estas" for everyone) and there is no grammatical gender. The tenses are only past, present, future, conditional, and command form. The hardest thing for most people who learn it is mastering the accusative case, which is babby tier noun declension and will help you understand how declension works in case you want to learn Latin or Russian.

It is easy for Western Europeans because its root words are taken from Romance, Germanic, and a smattering of Slavic languages. In addition, it uses regular endings to show if something is a verb, noun, adjective, adverb, or whatever.

Since there lots of problems with Sumerian I'd like to turn myself to Akkadian first. It uses the same cuneiform, but we know more of this language then the Sumerian lang. So it'd be like you learning Japanese first and Chinese later, I guess.

I'm really tired of repeanting this, but here.

For most of Russian tp speakers here it's not even 'I learn conlangs'. It had started at /b several weeks ago. So it's not a research or language study project or something like that. It's purely a meme.

And it's actually a good thing, because it's fun.

All 'what's it good for' questions should be answered 'it's good for killing time'.

The size of spaces is not really the problem.
The problem is you're writing the font monospace (fixed-width), while the font doesn't guarantee a close connection between two neighboring symbols.

You'll need to either guarantee a connection between each letter (observe how in monospace fonts the 'i' is more than just a vertical line with a dot)

Or have the font overlap in such a way that a space more clearly gives away the separation.

... Or introduce a symbol that replaces space.

Adds a lot of noise in my opinion. It's like idiomatic Perl. To use it well, one has to precisely remember all the sumti places for given selbri (and assume that everybody does).

I think I'll just skip it for now. I'll keep in mind it exists but I'm not going to use it.

The pace of Lojban tutorials seems a bit too fast for me. Are there any exercises? A couple dozen phrases per topic at least? How did you actually study?

I've looked through papri and it seems there's no such thing. Maybe there are noob friendly communities or something?

Esperanto is way easier to study. :(
