You are correct to encourage conformity with established grammatical rules (especially for the purpose of taking exams), however, it's also important to point out that textbook grammar is often different to the grammar we use in practice.
This is especially true for English, since unlike almost every other language, it doesn't have its own governing body to regulate its grammar and spelling. Although spelling and grammar are standardised in modern English, the validity of them is greatly dictated by current usage. The process usually doesn't involve a new word completely popping out of nowhere. Often, it's a variation of an existing word or a repackaged older word.
Take for example the word "hoover". It didn't mean anything until the early 20th century, but now it's a common verb that means to vacuum (it comes from a surname). Or the word "fridge", which is relatively new (~1920s), coming from a shortened version of the word "refrigerator" (centuries older).
"Smog" is a word which didn't exist until the early 20th century (it comes from "smoke" + "fog"). Likewise, "chortle", which comes from "chuckle" + "snort".
The tech field is the most obvious source of neologisms in most languages. A few common neologisms are "webcam", "email" and "google" (verb).
