/ic/ thoughts on bob ross?
>>
>>2586618
he gets people excited about making art and admits he's not the best. I respect him more for what he said than what he painted.
>>
His stuff is pretty nice. His show is aimed at amateurs but it's fun to watch and he's a super cool person
>>
>>2586618
I greatly respect him and he taught me the most important lesson in that time + effort = talent
>>
>>2586618
Not sure what to say, words can not describe him.
>>
This meme is not funny
>>
>>2586618
he probably is one of the most respected figures in the art world. He is just a super genuine guy who will teach how to be a decent painter.
>>
No idea who he is, I just saw he has a new show on Netflix or something.
>>
>>2586789
He's been dead for 20 years. Netflix is just putting his old show onto their site.
>>

I bought that brush. It sheds some, but otherwise works great.

>I wonder the same

Also gonna check Mr Ross for the first time and see what's all the fuzz about
>>
>>2586618
This guy is literally all about enjoying what you are doing. Having a few skills under your belt, picking up a canvas and going at it. And enjoying it. Getting into painting and doing your thing.

He is also extremely relaxing.
>mfw used to fall asleep watching Bob
>>
Needs more loomis
>>
>You need dark to show light and light to show dark
>Objects further away from us are lighter
>Putting that object in front pushes everything further back
>We're creating a sense of depth by establishing different planes

You can learn some good fundies from Bob Ross.
>>
>>2587866
Update: I didn't know I was missing THIS much it is indeed relaxing and didactic, found myself smiling along and tearing up at the thought that he was gone. This man was a wonderful genius
>>
I like how simple and fun he makes it look
I never tried painting with him tho

Wait do people here genuinely think he's a good painter? He seems like a nice guy and all, but his stuff is shitty and kitschy. THe people he inspired to paint are usually copycats who are even worse and don't accept any crits.
His colors are vomit inducing, the values are shit, the perspective is shit, his compositions are shit, the edges are shit, everything has been regurgitated a million times

Posting some decent landscape painters (Josh Clare)

That wasn't anyone's point, most people are saying that he's an honest guy who was honestly happy about what he did. I don't mind the art because his enjoyment is what made the show so successful, in my opinion.

What does him being a nice guy have to do with art though?
>>
>>2589867

The point is that he inspires people to paint with his sheer enthusiasm. It's contagious. Not everything is about the craft - sheer joy and love for the process is just as important.
>>
>>2589875
This, and the fact he's knocking out a painting in the timespan of an episode vs all the painters you've linked who put in way more time than that. I have no idea about his abilities outside of his show, but I'd imagine he makes fairly decent paintings when not under a massive time constraint. A lot of his methods you see (and apparently hate) in his paintings are economical ones to maximize his time. I like his stuff, honestly. I don't view each one as a masterpiece, but I find them refreshing to look at.
>>
>>2589910
He paints the exact same horizontal landscape with mountains and trees with the same brushstrokes ad nauseum, if anything I admire his stamina and lack of ambition

I thought this until I started binging episodes. There are a lot of episodes where he stretches out and does different shit that shows just how versatile his technique is. Very interesting stuff to watch.

He's basically the Mr Rogers, the Steve Irwin, the Bill Nye, the Jim Henson of art.

People like him not for his art but because of him. If you saw his videos with an open mind, you'd understand.

He's just there to entertain, and inspire. There's nothing wrong with inspiring people.

I sadly never watched him beyond a few clips because it seemed like his techniques would only apply to painting, to which wasn't delving into.

The man has the voice of an angel though, damn.
