Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

First time drawing in a month or two and I only started drawing this around AM before I slept. Let me have it. Can't draw hands or hair worth a damn, but I'm willing to improve.

Also, Is plagueofgripes correct in saying artbooks are a sham? He said they are because they only teach people how to draw characters in a certain angle, but when asked to draw them in a separate angle, they wouldn't know how.

I'm also a complete newbie to sai so any tips would greatly be appreciated.

This is my first time drawing and I'm probably way in over my head and all proportions are off, but I'll send this anyhow. So feel free to destroy me s-senpai

Since it's not really clear what's going on in the composition, it'll feature silhouettes of a man and two women on a field of narcissuses, with their spirit animals lying besides them. The guy's in love with both women but can't open up to neither, and that translates to the scene as the women simply observe the man while he struggles to get his bear to wake up from its hibernation.

The reason I wanted to replace actual bodies with silhouettes was because I wanted to emphasize their feelings and personalities; the man would be entirely black with flames inside, both contoured in red, while the woman on the left would be in orange-yellow light, signifying a fiery and enthusiastic personality, and the right one in yellow-white light, signifying purity and piousness.

Does using silhouettes come off as laziness? Also, does it all sound too cheesy?

Daffodils. Anyway, writing stories to draw comes later when you know what you're doing. Right now you should be churning out so many drawings that you don't have time to be thinking up stories.

It's not for furry shit, that stuff revolts me. I was roped into helping make concept art for an animation that features a fucking raccoon. As in the actual animal not some human hybrid shit.

I wish furfags killed themselves too.

You might want to slow down a bit. This scale of work is not easy to put together. Based on the sketch it looks nearly impossible for you to nail. I'm not trying to push you down, but these features show your weaknesses and you cannot expect that decent outcome.

First of all, that sketch is nearly started, it's hard to get your point from one minute scribble. Why dont you come back later, when you have actually done something?
Your anatomy is really off and stiff, its hard to get emotions through without a proper body language. Even those stick figures are badly off. Try searching for photos, that match your idea and study every person separately.
You haven't even started the animal, how are we supposed to understand?
Composition is almost impossible to understand from that, now it looks way too even and without a point of interest.

Pic related, that guys pose reminds me a bit of this. If nothing else, take a pic of yourself and figure it out.

You gotta work on just drawing what you see before you work on construction -- Look at the angle of the shoulder, the negative space on her right, the shape of her chin.

Honestly you should learn how to capitalize the beginning of your sentences and not forget your apostrophe in the word "shouldn't". You should also avoid sounding like a twelve year old.
>>
>>2567750
You need to practise perspective. Look at the body of the machine gun and then look at the triple barrel, the angle is slightly off. Same for the feet and arm.

The line drawing exercise should be done for 10 minutes a day until you can stay on the line. Drawabox says to just do 2 pages of it for homework but it's not an exercise you do once. Right now you're lines are really not good. Not sure about "using your arm to draw" but the way i understand it you can lock your wrist and rotate your elbow instead for longer lines, like half an A4 page long.

I have a question about symbol drawing.

It's discouraged to draw things as you imagine them to look like rather than how they look like, but how is it that American animation besides Disney draws just like that (i.e. very simple forms) and people draw inspiration from them? Shouldn't the drawing style of shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy be chastised and shunned in the art community?

When you finish the grind. All joking aside, the grind isn't supposed to be fun but why can't you have fun along the way? Draw something you like instead, then when you see it is shit, return back to the grind.

You just answered your own question, you DO improve when you draw what you want to draw. However, best to learn construction, perspective, and gesture first.

You're supposed to be applying the techniques of the book. The cartoon faces is just one of the techniques. It wont make or break you.

I just do them to get it into my head how it works. I learn by doing it and applying what I learned to my own work. Some people can read through it all and pick it up.

Beginner here so take it with a big grain of salt but I think I got what your problem is, I tried to redline the perspective as I see it from the front of the vehicle, then found the middle line in green: this is where the cannon should cross this plane.

As >>2569031 said be careful about your ellipses, keep in mind that the longest diameter is perpendicular to the cylinder.

Good effort, the lines will really help with your measuring. Next time, recreate the guidelines and sections you have here on the reference, then try to really take your time and look at each part you are drawing and ere it is in relation to each section

It feels like my skill level is fluctuating too much on a daily basis. For a couple days I might complete a few studies and produce work that's not too bad, and then one day it all falls apart and I turn into a complete beginner again. Is this normal? How do I prevent it from happening, or how to push through it?

Also sorry about image size, it kept pixelating when i tried resizing it

i've been trying to learn the fundies of construction and figure drawing as my focuses mainly

however, i feel like i've been doing nothing but exercises and practices, and i can't really translate this into actually drawing a picture

my question is when should i stop doing fundy exercises and start trying to actually draw some things? i know im gonna be shit at drawing for a while, but when do i move from practicing fundamental exercises to practicing composing an actual piece?

Try it anyway. The worst that could happen is it's awful and makes your weaknesses obvious, allowing you to direct your studies to the areas you need to improve the most.
>>
>>2569467
You either start drawing what you want to draw rather than focusing exclusively on getting gud, or you burn out. Stop being dumb and draw what you want to draw. Focus your studies on problematic areas related to those things.

You'll never get good if you burned out a few months into trying.

Sorry for the shitty lines desu. Its my first time digital and doing a redline for a while.
Biggest problem is seeing the whole form, and the drawings come off as very flat. Only advice I can give is to keep on working on drawing different forms from different angles and to keep pushing yourself.
A tip though is to draw the tilted plane of the top of the ribcage and to attach the neck to that.

I am sleepy af tbqh btw desu so I'll do the rest tomorrow as long as I remember.

Looks to me like you're not thinking in 3D, which is they key point of Loomis. Draw the head again turned at an angle and think of everything you draw as a 3D object interlocking and wrapping around other objects.

Looks kinda better
>>
>>2569973
If you have played any video game that requires mouse accuracy, then switching to a tablet is no problem other than the surface being really slippery compared to paper. The disconnect that people speak of, is only bad for people who have never used a mouse for fast accuracy.
