how many of of you graduated from an art or design school? and if you did, where do you work now? in a related field or not? was going to school for this a waste of time (yes)???

i graduated a couple weeks ago from what's supposed to be a pretty prestigious design school and god there are no jobs. how the fuck do you do it. from what i've seen people exclusively get jobs by knowing artists who already have jobs, regardless of talent.

also does anyone here just live off freelance? if so are you evading taxes or . .not.

is drawing furry porn for a living actually viable? ??????????

Art isn't just about making pretty pictures. There's a lot of business sense involved too, the people that forget that don't get jobs. Most graduates don't get jobs anyway, they just get an "experience" and a huge fucking bill lol

Also, pretend we're a potential client or art director and post your art for the sake of the thread.
>>
i went to an art school, did ceramics, and now i work doing storyboards and keyframes for a small production company.

so...
ceramics = job in film and tv.

take it all with a bucket of salt art school rarely actually gets you a job in the field that you study.

i know some real fuckwit scammer types of artists that are total shit at ceramics that got jobs within the ceramic community after school, so, yea. its all up in the fucking air as far as im concerned.

go to art school for booze, sex, and magic.
if you expect anything more to happen, your not gonna have a good time.
>>
>>2562871
There's absolutely no overlap between "ceramics" and storyboards/keyframes.

That sounds like a total load of horseshit but whatever.
>>
>>2562860
>post your art so we can confirm you wasted your time

i dont need you guys telling me i know

>>2562883

yknow i think thats the whole point of what they were saying. its all up in the fucking air
>>
>>2562883
i dont think you gather the tone of my post. im against art school, all i was saying is that i studied ceramics for 4 years and then when it came to getting a job i landed in media production for film and tv. not a huge studio btw.
art school does not in any way dictate where you will end up getting a job. at least how i have experienced it.
>i also did drawing throughout the 4 years but not as a major.
>>
>>2562919
Sorry I jumped on you there. While it still sounds pretty unbelievable, for a split second I thought that all you could do in college was your major for some reason even though if anything this board has shown me it's that college is a big gay waste of time and money and you would definitely be just as likely if not moreso to land something outside of your "field" as one within it.
>>
>>2562926
yes, i admit it, i got kinda lucky, but the contact i got lucky through, i met at art school.
alot of already established old people go to art school as kinda of a "down time course" like a holiday that they get a cert for at the end.
those are the people yo go to art school to "cozy up too".

that and shit nosing the good teachers.

Should have learned web design desu~
>>
>is drawing furry porn for a living actually viable?

scarily so, I learned some drawing basics to do some 20 dollar commissions on the side while in uni getting a chem major and before I know it, it ballooned into a full time job paying ~55k a year. im not even good.

He's just fishing for compliments tbqph. Like when a hot babe says "I'm So UGLY". Except instead of a hot babe it's a high quality depiction of anthropod homosexual analingus.

Fuck off Gabe, you can't be among the top 4 artists on this board and pretend you aren't good.
>>
>>2562844
which art school and which major?
>>
>>2563266
he's simply telling the truth. he's art has a lot of flaws that need to be addressed.
>>
>>2562844
lololo you fell for art school trap. You just wasted time and possibly money on useless shit. If you didn't waste money it's not a prestigious school

What kind of art do you do? Do you have a portfolio? if all you have are figure drawings and still lives, why would anyone hire you? Anyway, if you're really this stupid I don't think it matters what anyone here says. You're going to live in your mom's basement and be a beginner forever and blame your unemployment on the government.

Get yourself a different job.
>>
>>2563226
im thinking about doing some of that on my own, it seems like the only jobs available are with that + graphic

>>2563263
honest ass question, do you pay taxes from furry porn? over the span of 2-3 months i made 700$ from it just starting off, so i mean i know you can make good money. but also ive also heard of people losing thousands of dollars because paypal loopholes.

>>2563294
'what's supposed to be a pretty prestigious design school'
NCSU's design program, they only let 100 people in each year, divided into the different majors (architecture, graphic, industrial, etc.)
i think what i got out of it is the school has a very good architecture major, and most of the programs are good. however i went into art+design focusing on new media and animation. let me tell you, they dont have a good program for that. welcome to my blog.

yes I pay standard small business taxes for furry porn. I put 20% of everything I make into a separate tax account. I don't know what you're talking about with losing money thru paypal loopholes. Invoices are the safest option, you have a gun pointed at your foot if you let people just send you money.
>>2563272
>>2563313
I'm not being self deprecating. I'll get better eventually, but its just being realistic to acknowledge that I have a lot of glaring flaws, and even if I was somehow the best in the furry porn circle, thats still the bottom of the barrel when it comes to ability in wider commercial art. If I wasn't doing wacky porn I'd be lucky to get 30 notes on any of my drawings.
>>
>>2563710
loopholes was probably a bad choice of words. i've heard of people getting their accounts frozen for probably not using invoices
and since i've honestly really considered the furryporn route, and you seem to know what you're doing, how much time to you spend drawing each day about? or are you that organized (setting aside specific amounts of time etc). i wish i could see how much art you put out but i still cant get on fA because furry y2k

Ive heard the horror stories of people getting locked out of their accounts for some reason or another, but I think its less common than you'd think. Paypal doesn't really give a shit. I draw for 4-8 hours a day, I take days off if I need them, usually not often, and I generally put out a rendered picture a day. I have a rigid schedule, but its not time based, I have specific things I do every day.
Heres a sfwish one I think I can actually post to give an example of how a finished piccy looks.

Do you have any non-furry, possibly non-porn art? I'd love to see it.
