Open it in its own tab. Should help a lot.

I actually tried a lot of different colors, including plain black, and this was arguably the most legible combination. Maybe I shouldn't have featured some of the artist's work behind their quote or made the text bigger, idk tbhqph

Most of these are quotes from short biographies (with the exception of Cearley and Bradley), it's not surprising there'd be overlap. Even the only quote delivered from a third person perspective (Shane Glines) begins with "the Oregon native".

>Schoolism
>a fucking 'School'

There is a substantial difference between voluntarily taking individual art courses online (through a website like Schoolism) or off (at a studio/Atelier) and attending an art school where you're locked in for whatever amount they decide to charge you, for however long they decide to keep you the second your signature dries. Feng Zhu admitted in a recent video it's possible to learn on your own and he owns a fairly successful art college (Silver's physical art school is more of an Atelier). The fact that both of them teach doesn't make either of them hypocrites for suggesting the possibility one has to learn largely on their own.

I'm a drop-out and here's what I think:

If you like the folks, the parties, the 'allure' and the talk, artschool is a great time and you should enjoy every minute of it.

If you want to just make art and are not that interested in socializing it is a waste of time.

Remember it can be a great bump for your carreer if you are the kind of person that can make the right contacts and not take life/critique too seriously. If not you are going to have a bad time and feel worthless for the coming years. You have to feel at home, if not; leave or find a school that suits you. There are huge differences because it REALLY all depends on the filosophie of the board.
>>
>>2558413

are you a working professional? lol no
>>
>>2558418
Lol, I changed carreers and am a much happier person now.

Anyway, I do commissions for friends and family every now and then. The thing is that the ' fine art-world' is similar to the crowd at your school. If you hate them there you will hate them for the rest of your life. Why make yourself miserable?

Here's what you do, nerd:
I'm gonna assume since you only want to do ceramics, you're always in that studio and you're starting to get good at it. Get in with the professor and ask for a fucking studio assistant jerb. Be insistent. If you can't get a paid jerb, be a kiln-loader/glaze mixer or whatever for free in exchange for something you want. The CC is your home-base now to help you with issues like technical support or kiln access as you become a professional for years to come. Yes, you should be starting to sell your shit now, online or at dinky local shows. Fall is coming. Sign up for a fucking craft show or two. And get your Goddamn BFA. It looks good. Now you can waltz into any of the 6 Atelier style ceramics programs in every city in the world and ask for a part-time teaching gig. That's gonna be a $1000 a month buffer while you keep making your own shit and figuring out what to make and sell. If teaching is your thing, now you know it and can decide later on if you want to get an MFA and start applying for college teaching jobs. If not, you have set yourself up to survive on 2-3 part-time jobs doing what you love. Stop being a dingus.

The biggest advantage of art school is developing a strict work ethic. You could obviously develop a strict work ethic on your own, but having other people to help you organize your work and give you very steady assignments (on relevant material) can help keep you sane while you do it.

Actually learning anything about art is ALWAYS something you have to do yourself. Sometimes you get lucky and actually get useful teachers who can give you valuable insights and critiques, but learning fundamentals is something you have devote yourself to, no one can give it to you.

Obviously this means any school that isn't demanding, any that isn't giving you tons of appropriate work is a complete waste of time and money, so you have to be very careful about where you're applying.

I've been self-employed for a few years now, and my own laziness has been, and continues to be my biggest hurdle. If I had an extra 60-70k$ sitting around, I would go to somewhere like FZD school. Not to get some useless certification they give after two years or whatever, just to consider it like an art boot-camp to help whip myself back into shape (I'd do their shortest program, after talking to former students and making sure it's got what I have in mind).

If you already have a strong work ethic, or you don't have the money to spend on something so entirely optional, don't go to art school.
>>
>>2558452

This. I don't understand why you won't get into ceramics if it's the thing you enjoy the most.
>>
>>2559681
Well youd need to have shit taste to be interested in ceramics, and you are basically donating tens of thousands of dollars and getting nothing in return.

Depends on the school, not every art school is american and costs tens of thousands.

I went to one that costed around 2k per year.
The teachers were pretty cool, they'd learn what you want and help you achieve it. The problem was that if you want shit, they are going to help you get shittier.
Its pretty toxic if you go there without knowing what you want.

pic related, an end of year exhibition of a classmate that's on that school for 5 years (and still going i think). pic quality is shit because i didnt want anyone to think i was taking the pics because i liked the paintings, gotta go fast
>>
>>2558171

I agree, except for the cost. Considering how much you will make assuming you get a job starting out the debt most people take on is absolutely absurd.
>>
>>2558171
Art school is free where I live. Imean, there are private art school that charge you about $1000, but there are at least ten public art schools.
>>
The one thing I think /ic/ saved me from was getting $100k in debt by going to art school right after HS. I was wide eyed and properly lubed to get fucked by those dream vultures at full sail and schools like that.
