Alright sp/ic/s, here's what's up.All of us complain about how slow this board is compared to other boards, how bad and toxic this board is compared to other boards (apparently including /b/ which surprised me) and how unproductive this board is compared to EVERWHERE ELSE ON AND OFF THE FUCKING INTERNET.
So, this thread is meant to gather and share ideas on how to jumpstart /ic/.
On my part, I've been posting roll threads every once in a while, and once I get better at drawing, I want to start posting study threads.
What will you guys do to fix this board? It needs to be a community effort, and complaints about mods deserve to be addressed here too.

It's always been a toxic board and has always been slow. It's faster now than it has been in the past few years though.
As long as it isn't being overwhelmed with spam posts like a ton of sakimi threads or whatever then the board is about the same as it always has been except there is a shift towards more anime and porn now than before. All the pros who contributed here have either been chased off entirely or have given up on putting any effort into improving the board, but again, this has been the case for a while now.
I want better reference threads. Think, people post their own gathered resources, in collections, or links or shit.
Threads could be themed, with links to past compiled resources, with tips on the current topic. (mech, anatomy, clothes/drapery, etc)
Goddamn, I just need more/better references.
This board is shit, but it's better than any other art site out there.

People have tried multiple times and failed. The problem is the format itself--it's anonymous and it's hosted on 4chan. This has it's pros (why everyone is here) but many many cons that cap how great a place it can ever truly be.
We are also living in an age where even great forums like CA have completely died. There's no chance in hell that /ic/ will ever approach that golden age.

Creating a million specific containment threads and deleting everything else is a good way to lead to stagnation as people won't post new threads that might prove valuable or lead to interesting discussions or posts.
Also the board is slow as it is, and splitting everything up like that even more will slow it down even further. When there was a movement to try to get people to leave here and create a better art board on double chan they tried something like that and it failed.
Honestly in my opinion the most realistic change we can make that would improve /ic/ is to have ID tags.
We need to first get rid of Nosebro. That'll improve the board by 15%.

I mean I've been here since /ic/ was added but I don't remember it ever being 'good'. I mean at least now we have generals, which has done a lot to make it easier to actually post your work and get feedback, especially for beginners.
Most of this thread is people saying "get rid of things I don't like", or basically trying to conjure a huge active userbase /ic/ just doesn't have.
I do agree we need a much better sticky with updated resources and a suggestion to check out the generals before making a new thread to post your work.

My thoughts:

Expand the sticky to include more required reading. Loomis and DotRSotB are fine but there are so many books that are useful to supplement that with for people looking to get into certain kinds of art (oils, watercolor, manga, animation, etc). There was a thread a while back trying to compile books together to make a /mu/ style chart for /ic/ and I think a project like that would be invaluable. So first and foremost, tell people to go fuck off and read a book and then come back.

Adopt a /wg/ style sticky, that encourages people to post in the board's eternal threads (the draw thread, beginner thread, porn thread, etc) rather than making their own threads to ask questions about their own shitty drawings. Make it clear that "artwork" as a term on /ic/ is not a broad term, and largely pertains to drawings and paintings, and that writing goes to /lit/, craft to /diy/, photography to /p/, and graphic design to /gd/. This is meant to eliminate the large amounts of junk threads made by first time users who obviously did not lurk for one hour even before posting.

Of course plenty of idiots will still ignore it, but I'd say at least 1 in 3 idiots make their own threads because they're new and don't know better. Cutting out 33% of our worthless "check out my sketch what do you think?" would already do wonders.

Our current generals are fine I think, but some could be a bit more organized. Taking the Book Thread as an example, many great resources are posted in there regularly but the links/backups are somewhat of a mess. A combined effort to make organized folders and such would be nice.
I personally made the Pixel Art thread that's still on the catalog and plan on updating the OP with more resources and stuff as time passes by.

Porn threads used to be fine until a few bad eggs from the "porn community" decided to have grudges against "good artists" on here.
Most of the porn threads are gossip. Most of the talent already left. No one gives proper critique, and if anyone posts art they get heckled, regardless of what the content is.
