A thread dedicated to my favorite style, artists, and drawings. I guess you could call it the concept artist style but this shit is why I draw.
Anything you want to add is welcome, hell, introduce me to some new artists.

Some similar(ish) pencils to Wes: Heinrik Bolle, Marko Djurdjevic, Jana Schirmer, early Daniel Chavez, Whit Brachna (though many images aren't online anymore).
Are you only looking for pencils?
>>2538530
Just remembered that Phil Lietz's old work also was similar to that. Maybe just look at guys who worked for Massive Black and SixMoreVodka.
don't care that it's animu, that rendering is so bomb
>>2538649
Simpleton.
more animu with incredible style to the rendering. burne jones eat your heart out.
>>2538660
Plebeian.
>>2538649
Who's the artist for this? I only found anime wallpaper sites with no sources.
>Rene Gruau
>Ctkcave

>>2538719
lucky for you, my saved copy had the pixiv id and i backtracked from there.
http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=773378
unlucky for you, looks like they've updated with all of two pieces in 5 years.
>>2538892
>lucky for you, my saved copy had the pixiv id and i backtracked from there.
....You do know you can just use saucenao, right?
>>2538909
i assume they'd used saucenao when they said all they could get were anime background sites.
you do know that if a saved piece is titled with the pixiv id of the work it's literally just a matter of copying and pasting, right?

tips on how to emulate koike?
i know he just has these black squiggley shapes as the shadows but if anyone is more experienced and a better artist could they help?
my dream is to emulate him
any tips? anything would be appreciated..
>>2539120
well im tryin nigga but someone has got to have some tips ya know what im sayin?
ive been drawing and doodling these fucking black shapes since i was a little kid and if i could just figure out how to make them shadows i feel like i could adapt koike's style!!!
>>2539127
I like it. That said, you don't know the first thing about drawing real stuff, do you? You've got a long way to go if that's the case, fambalaya. Koike and animators like him are master draftsmen
>>2539128
that's the truth of it. if you want to learn to draw like someone, you have to learn to draw first.
>>2539128
i know i know im a beginner and hes a master but ive got the line control and shit and im doing loomis now all im just wondering if ANYONE has a magical tip
i know its a long shot but i just felt like its worth a shot
you know like if i could just figure out how to direct draw without constructing first like just lay down these fatty black shadows?!
>>2538649
Cute. I like this style. No idea how you could so something so complex though.
>>2539128
>>2539133
see where im trying to go with this shit?
i know im a LONGGGG way off but like should i be doing loomis and more loomis or maybe trying to copy still frames of redline or something?
heavily opressed even watching he's work in image
>>2538724
I love this person's art.
Meh?
I stopped for a long time and just recently started up again , and I couldn't agree more with some of the advice I'm reading: draw! Do it as much as you can and get out of your comfort zone. It's the only way to learn and become more dynamic/versatile.
I got into a shitty fight with my soon to be ex and this drawing is what I did afterwards instead of moping. One of my all time favorite movies btw
Critique/feedback welcome.
Wow, kind of like the study more.
Was Bouguereau really into loli or something
>>2539272
By study i meant that pencil sketch, not really study
>>2539272
people can draw children without wanting to fuck them.
>>2539137
there is no magical tip
>>2539281
boogeroo really really liked drawing little girls though
>>2539333
and they're not sexualized at all, as opposed to many of his pieces featuring adult women.
people can draw children without wanting to fuck them.
>>2539137
If there was a magical tip nobody would bother practicing
Try recreating his work over and over again AFTER you get gud at your studies. Do two-tone black-and-white light studies after that. Once you understand the harsh shadows in b&w, learn to emphasize them with colour.

>>2539423

ok i just tried recreating a scene from redline but like i said.. i fucked it up but i feel like i may have learned something from the experience
and yeah i know i must keep studying

What's up with the missing pelvis?
I like Jon Foster's style - he's probably among my favourite book cover illustrators
Expressive strokes, exaggerated gestures, interesting colours and it almost has a traditional painting feel to it.
>>2539794
>>2539797
>>2538472
why does senpai no longer uses pencil? ;___;
>>2539223
>my soon to be ex
It always feels bad when you know it's coming
>>2539103
All he does is make subtle shadows jet black anon... he so ignores mid/low level shadows and never forgets to add lots of highlight. Other than that its pure and generic anime style. Small noses big eyes triangle heads.
Jon Foster was better before he had his breakdown about being a Phil Hale knockoff and started being a James Jean knockoff instead.
Any tips on drawing around the style of Yoji Shinkawa? I have seen only a few people coming closer to his style but dude's art feels very untraceable.
For reference, he has commented on being influenced by Yoshitaka Amano, Willy Pogany, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, Aubrey Beardsley and even Frank Miller, but I feel he's on his own league now.
Shinkawa uses a brush pen that I know, he seems to draw varying the pressure to create line thickness. But other than that that dude is definitely in his own league.
>>2539427
keep at it. if it doesn't look right, erase those parts and try again. facial features are too flat
tai shan schierenberg
>>2539988
Yoshitaka Amano is the art style I'm trying to emulate. Tracing is I think out of the question, you may need to look into whether or not the artist has art style inspirations that he used to create his own style with as opposed to what artists he's inspired by in general. Maybe learning different art styles from Asian artists and free handing his art work would help
>>2540065
What you should be focusing on is getting to Amano's level of drawing ability and anatomy. It's not his style that makes the art look good it's that he knows how to draw things correctly but in that style. Once you can draw well emulating a style is easy.
Otherwise you'll just look like a shit tier pleb trying to badly imitate Amano. Stop worrying about "muh style" and go study from life.
>>2540036
Isn't the neck too long? If you look down like that, the neck should look shorter. It's only when you stretch and look up-and-back it should look that long.
>>2540091
You saying the drawing or the screenshot?
>>2539553
why does it make you want to puke?
>>2538789
who the fuck made this please tell meeeeee
>>2540384
You know you can reverse search an image by clicking the arrow on the right of the post number
>meeeeee
No wonder, you're retarded
>>2540395
Yeah and the only thing that comes up for it is Daniel Chavez.
and by looking at his art station there's no way this fucking moron is competent enough to be able to do this, and the only reason it came up is because some moron ripped this image from /ic/ to pinterest and mistaked it as Daniel Chavez' work.
Literally suck my fucking cock you moron.
>>2540398
You first fagboy
>>2540399
>i was only pretending to be retarded
>>2540398
Kek are you serious? It is Daniel who did it. He did it when he was 19. And now he's older and his style changed, and his design skills are 1000x better. He's a fucking big name in the industry and doing some insane work. It's funny that you are unable to recognize his skill level though.
>>2540407
Absolutely not
>>2540091
Except she's not looking straight down. Your image is not comparable due to way her head is tilted while reclining. The right corner of her jaw which would sink towards the neck in your reference photo is instead lifted up and stretches out the neck. Try her gesture for yourself, recline while letting your chin touch your left shoulder, feel what happens. Your neck is stretching out as opposed to what happens when you imitate your ref.
>>2539223
Values are decent but your render is warped compared to the original, overall good work though. Keep up with your drawing anon.
