It's not ok, at least below pro level. People actually recognize trace easily and it shows that you can't into proper construction.

Thought it was Jeff at first lol
>>2531565
No. Anyone who thinks tracing actually helps at getting better is delusional.
i love tracing.

Tracing is to drawing as humming is to performing.

It's more like lip syncing.
Mike Giant traces and has a more successful art career than all you manga drawing weebs.
Although calling what you do real manga is an insult to actual manga illustrators.
tracing is fine if your doing a job or portfolio piece , if your trying to learn than its not very helpful.

I'm trying my best senpai

i'm a bit confused... when I ink my drawings I am essentially just tracing them.
so wouldn't tracing be useful to practice inking and line confidence?
>>2531565
I don't really see the point other than if you need to produce some generic background at a time when you got time restraints. At least when you take a low res photo and painting over it you are just being lazy but tracing still takes time.
In general the quality of your untraced stuff should match that of the traced if you want people to accept that you do it.

I agree. It did for me.

The Peter Han line drawing exercise is basically tracing too (draw a line, trace it 7 times).
If you are making a piece for money and needs to do it fast, then why not? The client won1t complain as long as it looks good. Of course, you won't evolve artistically doing that, but who cares? i've got bills to pay.
