Post finished masterpieces to even the smallest exercise you have done.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, There is a question thread for that.

Visit the usual "Art book Thread" to find your desired books. (Or look in the new sticky)

Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

>Go to academy
>Find the best and most experienced draftsman there
>He stares at me like a king stares at a slave
>Everyone looking at me in silence, wondering if I dedicate 8 hours a day to photocopying statues from life with charcoal
>Hand him a pentel brush
>He looks at it, I can tell he feels insulted already, everyone grinning about to tell me to leave or pay a million dollars for a photocopying course
>Say "Now try to draw an anime character without using reference you fucking faggot"
>They all fall to the floor and start screaming in agony knowing their 100 year training is fucking worthless other than for copying literally LITERALLY what they see

Academic a shit, should have read Scott Robertson instead.
>>
>>2527443
I kinda have to agree with you on that. I've been attending an atelier for almost a year now and my technical/ life drawing skills have reached a pretty impressive level but I still can't draw shit from my head. I can barely draw fucking stick figures without a reference.
>>
>>2527449
Post a picture of your academic work and draw a couple figures from imagination to help us put your words in perspective, please!
>>
>>2527430
I like it. I really like it.

It's finally my chance to see a traditional piece that doesn't look great. Absolutely gorgeous.

100% agree

Is that reproduction true to life? The ones I've seen of this painting are usually less saturated and more brownish but I like the colors in this one regardless.

Im unsure, the colors made fully erect; so I saved it.

So this is the begginer thread now?

I'm new to digital painting after I've painted traditionally for a while.
I tried making an apple from reference but it came out like shit, probably I don't know hot to use my brushes.

Please beat me up until i get better.

and the real apple for comparation.
>>
>>2527561
First of all the proportions are shit and the markings on the apple don't even follow the form. You also don't have a dark enough shadow on the bottom of the apple and underneath it too.
>>
>>2527561
try using a bigger brush size. those lines don't even look like brush strokes, they just look like scribbles.
>>
>>2527563
use a decent apple at least, also maybe try looking at what you draw instead of bullshitting stuff from your head

I'm still not used to the tablet, some times it feels very stiff other times very shaky
I tried to shade the apple, I tought that indigital painting the shadoes went first but they wered covered up by the main color.

>>2527600
Noted, I didn't know the digital painting process was based on blocks.

>>2527710
The rotting apple just looked interesting and gave some textures that could be interesting

>>2527741
This solves the majority of my doubts, the work scheme for digita painting was a mystery for me bofore this.
>>
>>2527430
Man you need to get your drawing right before you slap on thick paint
>>
>>2527418
I vote to have all this threads from now on with this name

before you advance to draw/ alternative/ porn threads you should graduate from here
>>
>>2527430
Weird. It makes me uncomfortable
>>
>>2527443
>Academic a shit, should have read Scott Robertson instead.

Academic + scott robertson + bridgman is best tier.
>>
>>2527497
looks like you're symbol drawing without a ref, look into construction of the head and facial features
>>
>>2528497

I heard from a "pro" to not do robertson or feng and to just draw all day.
>>
>>2527959

Beginner thread is a lot more obvious a name for beginners looking to post their art.

If you just showed up and saw "academic art thread" or "drawthread" which one would you post your shitty beginner doodle into?
>>
>>2529273
Beginner threads are a great place for beginners to find one another and give each other bad habits and topkek shitpost memes. Nosebro and the underage should be banned for shitposting.
>>
>>2529273
from what I saw when ppl get directed to the beginner thread their ego is in the way because of the thread name

also academy thread might be a better indication of the tip of exercises you should expect from it
>>
>>2529422

just call it the "unemployed" thread
>>
>>2529438
idk dude, sometimes great artist are unemployed, and sometimes even shitty ones are employed
>>
>>2529236
There's no wrong way to do something, so go for it.
>>
Is there any academic art literature on how to approach made-up anatomy? Like for satyrs and centaurs and angels and shit.
>>
>>2529609
Literally tons, search google or youtube.
>>
>>2529609
It's just combining existing animal anatomy with existing human anatomy. Get a book like Goldfinger's Animal Anatomy for Artists and study up on real anatomy then you will see how easy it is to combine or modify.
>>
>>2527425
tfw you have been swindled.

It doesn't. Also, not like the usual beginner threads. The methods we are using are deliberately narrow. The idea is to get you focused on accuracy via linear approximations, and gradual build up of values via blocking in gradients and refining the transitions between them. If you aren't familiar with these terms, look them up. Academic art is necessarily technical. While you don't have to know a lot of terminology, there is a minimum amount you do have to know to develop. Neither of you are being nearly precise enough for starters. Read a little bit more about the methodology behind the process of academic art. Learn the concepts. Learn the process There's more to it than just trial and error, mindless copying. We are copying, but the methods we are using are specific, and require highly accurate observations of the subject you are copying.
