I always ask people to post their work whenever I see a bold statement or when my curiosity is aroused. Yes, I also post my work when asked as well despite making bold statements myself it is a opportunity to test your own knowledge as well as learn from mistakes if you are found to be incorrect based on your drawing.

It's always been shit, but before it was shit because people were over-critical but at least they were on-topic. Anime art was frowned upon and usually contained to one thread. There were never any meta drama threads either, and the place was really slow.
It happened when the porn threads started. And when the malaysian cancer used all of his autistic rage to crap all over the board. He's been permabanned and is shitposting from his phone.

The quality of the board didn't decline with 1 or 2 new threads dedicated to art you don't like, but when once popular community activity threads slowly faded away and became very rare or nonexistent.
We used to always have a study thread up at any time. We used to have way more collab threads with far more people participating. Character design challenges, various sketch threads, gesture / figure drawing threads, master study threads, drawing from imagination challenges using random theme- and character generators and so on and on.
That's the stuff that made /ic/ a worthwhile place to go to. Pretentious fucks hating on animu and shitposting disguised as "harsh critiques" never added anything of value to this board.

The problem isn't just that these threads went away. They went away because people stopped participating. Somewhere down the line, the main demographic of /ic/ changed from people who wanted to actually draw and have fun while also learning and receiving meaningful critiques, to bitter fucks who only want to gossip about other artists and shitpost.
There are still a bunch of people left who aren't like that and every once in a while we do have a thread like in those days, but they usually die as quickly as they started.
I don't need people shitting in my work so I don't need to post it here anymore
I'm surprised that at times there aren't study threads or animation threads. The book thread even though it has content only has people begging useless books just to hoard content

I've been here longer than I'd like to admit and I agree. The overall quality of this board fluctuates a lot, it seeming better in the past is largely due to nostalgia clouding the memory.
