why are you making art and what is your goal?
personally i want to become great at art to inspire other people and have people recognise me to be good at something. i'm not aiming for an art job, but it's important to me that my art will be at least good enough to make some kind of living off (mostly just for validation)
I want to make a manga or something similar.
Yeah I know, it's childish, and I'm a fucking weeb, but its my dream and I'm trying to achieve it.

I can't really pinpoint an exact reason, I could say all the obvious shit like, I was always doing it, I enjoy it , I love it, etc. But I think one of the reasons is that I love learning, and art to me at least is like this thing that I won't be able to gather all the information and truly master it, someone will always be better than you and someone will always be worse than you. That makes me happy for some reason.

I kinda lost sight of my original objectives. When I started it was mostly because I saw a few funny /tg/ comics I liked. They were drawn at a pretty simple level and I'd probably be able to do stuff at that skill level by now, but my goalposts sort of shifted away from cartoony / stylized stuff after I started and now I basically just draw to git gud. I really should come up with a better more measurable objective, though, it's hard to stay motivated with such a vague objective.
To be able to convey the images I have in my head with technical accuracy and a distinct style.
It's the only thing I can get lost in for hours and not even feel time pass by. Even when just doing studies, my entire focus is on what I'm trying to convey
I have anxiety issues but when I draw all my worries melt away and ever since I've started getting into it again, I've been feeling much happier

i think thats it for me too. there is just so much shit to learn, about drawing, about the subject you want to draw. i'm pretty curious. drawing gives me a chance to study anything i stumble upon, and reflect it on a piece of paper.

Basically the same as these two. I've always been someone who comes up with ideas for stories but I want to be able to make them real by drawing them. One reason I draw is to make something I'm proud of. Throughout my life I've never really had anything to be proud of. All I did was play video games. I want something that can hopefully help me cope with my depression, bring me a little joy, and give me something to be proud of.

desu these are probably the only legitimate goals here for someone who's going to be great. As long as they're hard working. The best artists I've ever had the pleasure of working with loved doing it even if it was a means of escape from other problems going on in their life. I've seen people with other goals who've been drawing for 20+ years eventually quit because they didn't enjoy the act of creation itself in the end.
I want to work for a studio and produce cartoons. Cartoons were a great part of my childhood experience, and would love to help add to the experience of some other kid.
Because I have all these goddamns shitty ideas I wanna crap out all over a paper and share them with like minded faggots who might dig my garbage one day. Everytime I look at my filthy disgusting beginner art that can't express my ideas I wanna grab my limitations and suplex them down the goddamn stairs so I can bust this creative nut that's been giving me blue balls my whole life.

When I first went to art school, it was because I wanted to do art as a career. But, I realized over the years there that art wasn't actually my real passion; it was physics.
So now I'm majoring in particle and quantum physics, but I keep art as a hobby. I don't regret going to art school, though. I met tons of great people there and I still keep in touch with my professors.

Ultimately though, my goal is to make exquisite things, both in concept and aesthetic, as well as be able to make the mind to paper translation efficiently. I look at excellent craftsmen like George Nakashima and Sam Maloof, and I want to be able to replicate the sensory experiences of interpreting their handiwork.
Also, to get my existential anxiety onto a physical medium is another reason I want to make art.

Wow never seen that Leyendecker before. I would have never guessed it was him if it weren't for the signature. It's interesting how it's very competent but lacks the style for which he is famous. It's still very impressive for someone only 22 years old.

Yeah, I initially thought this was Frank's (his brother) doing. J.C.'s early work is fantastic, very classical illustration. I especially love this piece called Song of Faith; it's one of his rare pieces but it's so beautifully illustrated.
