this pic is too, id change the chin and mouth a smidgen but thats prob my personal taste

maybe thats /ic's problem, they forget theres a difference between the two
>>
I watched the video of this yesterday. I thought it's so sad that he's got fundamentals down and teaches them well imo, but when it comes to his personal drawings he just fucks up real bad.
>>
>>2486688
i like pointy things and thats ok
>>
Standard disclaimer that not liking someone's style doesn't make them unskilled, Sycra's done plenty of fine more traditional art that demonstrates his knowledge. Hating the pointy chins is fine, acting like he has no idea what he's talking about because you hate the pointy chins is silly.

Additional advise that drawing for a long time does not suggest that your artistic progression is a steady curve upwards. You get diminishing returns and any artist who has drawn for more than a year or two understands this.

Who am I kidding, this won't stop the people who always bitch about those two things.
>>
>>2486791
this so hard
>>
i don't like sycra not because he's bad at drawing(not like it matters much), but because he sucks at articulating himself and isn't a good speaker. not very clear imo.

i only watched one video of his, the perspective one, not exactly the clearest of instructions.
>>
>>2486791

See, the good thing about advice is that you can use your brain and decide for yourself whether or not you want to take it. Which advice have you heard Sycra give that you completely disagree with and why?
>>
Being at the level that he is at after consistently drawing for over a decade is inexcusable, no argument possible.

Maybe he's fucked in the brain or something, I don't know. (Imaginative) art just isn't for him.
>>
Sycra's 'okay'-tier at best, and that's not a position you want to be in after 10+ years plus of making art, and certainly not somebody you want to learn from.

That's because realistic rendering is fairly easy. Good stylization and line drawing is far more difficult.

It hurts to look at his new stuff.
>>2487235
I honestly think he can't do realistic rendering anymore.
>>
>>2487226
People like him and he's popular, therfore people get into a jealous rage while trying to prove they're better.
>>
>>2487241
Even if that's the case, it'd take him about a week to get back to where he was. Realistic rendering is not exactly a skill that requires any incredible brain power. Especially when it's done with reference photos like those Sycra paintings. Anyone who was once able to learn how to do it can always get back to it, even if they're rusty and haven't done it in years.
>>
>>2487195
He pretty much said that himself, he's trying to get into writting which was what he wanted to do to begin with. He got into art because of insecurities and people telling him his art was nice but he even has described himself feeling 'blind' when doing art.

I like sycras shit and I felt like his quality wasn't very high with this piece. I gave him a pass because he was trying out a new tablet, but no, not for a full piece would I accept this from him.

>That left eye

>>
>>2486685
most of his tutorials are like watching a deaf man trying to teach you to play piano by vibrations and complicated math approximations
>>
>>2487226
Because his level is easily viewed as attainable by most beginning artists, so they have to tear him down to make themselves feel better about their own art. Same as Saki-whatever, trying to rip her apart for their own pride rather than realize you don't need to be perfect to produce art
>>
>>2487653

Oh, by the gods top kek, that's fucking great.
On a serious note, I actually kind of understand on a tablet. For whatever reason, when I draw on a tablet that doesn't have a screen, I feel like I can't "see." I feel the same way I do when I draw letters, like my drawing brain shuts down and I forget what an "A" looks like.
>>
>>2487434

>>
>>2486685

>>
>>2487207
Nobody mentioned them, you faggot.

Take literally any 'classic' progress example, algenpfleger, tehmeh, mindcandyman, you name it, they all went from zero to being solid as fuck in way less then a decade.

Fuck, take a look at any decent artist under 25, they're all way better than Sycra with the same amount of years clocked.
>>
>>2487653
What are you Sycra cocksuckers even trying to argue.

His art speaks for itself. He's just not that good, and certainly not for the amount years he's put in. This absolutely undeniable.
>>
>>2487718
Sycra knows hes mediocre as fuck though.
Hes flatly said that he was jelly of some artists at a time.

He could be far worse, he could be one of those DA tier artists that love to gloat.

Being good at art =/= being gr8 at making a following on youtube by teaching art.
>>
>>2487602
This is actually a pretty good description.

I kind of feel bad for the guy. Art just doesn't click in his head.
>>
I've listened to a lot of his videos and his advice sounds nice in a feel good way, but honestly I just don't think the advice is very good for most people. His advice really only works for people like him, those who aren't very good at art and take many years to become decent, and find it difficult to find encouragement.
>>
>>2487725
That's true, but beside the point.

>>2487207 was somehow implying that people who hate on Sycra are all babbys who have unrealistic expatiations. I'm just saying that's not true at all. 10 years is plenty of years to git gud, and you should not be at Sycra level after that amount of time. This is completely reasonable.
>>
sycra himself has said he doesnt think that he's that good. i like his lessons though. i can understand it pretty clearly (an earlier post said he's not good at explaining things)
>>
>>2487735
The fact of the matter is that people who write this kind of stuff are never actually better than Sycra. They always think that in the future they will be. They think improvement is this RPG experience bar that will forever keep growing as long as you just work on your art 2 or 3 hours a day. The truth is that many people will hit a plateau they will never crack and most will do so much sooner than Sycra did. The kind of artists you think have made appropriate improvement in 10 years are the 1% who are better than you will ever be.
>>
>>2487234

idk seems to me like 99% of people would be capable of having solid drawing skills in terms of the fundamentals with the right instruction and perseverance. it's what the artist does with those that determine how good they are, and if their personal taste in art is shit, no amount of fundamental knowledge will save them. income cases like based jazza, their shit taste in art seems to stand directly in the way of their fundamentals.

>>2487755

if you do the work with the intention of learning, and are always analysing what is wrong with your work and trying to improve it, i really don't see why there would be a ceiling if you work hard enough (outside of the level of the 0.01% superstar artists )

Why is sycra so big on /ic/ for love or hate purposes?
Regardless of what people pretend he is a solid artist, but nothing that needs to be brought up daily.
So what's the deal?
>>
>>2488760
Even though i agree with all he haters, it's because he's popular on YT, maybe one of the most popular.
>>
>>2488770
Oh I see, so you just hate him because he's more popular than you.
>>
>>2488760
hes partially why a lot of posters are here... he fuels a lot of beginner fires, just because how open and inviting his tutorials are. But, because hes so limited, listening and following his choices can be potentially toxic to growth. Most of the love and hate comes from beginners who appreciate him for the help he has given. And those a bit more experienced, who realize that the payoff for watching his video is, at most, mild entertainment. And at its lowest it's completely and unintentionally volatile, teaching misleading tactics that can harm newbies.
>>
>>2488787
>more experienced realize he's harmful
Sycra never once says to do anything except learn the fundamentals. Even his style is application of fundamentals.
He's one of the better teachers in that respect.
Also
>implying anyone here is good enough to determine if sycra is good or bad for your growth
It's one thing to say you don't need to be better to critique. It's another to say that they're doing everything wrong when they're still way better than you are.
I can guarantee with 99% certainty that none of the people who bash sycra here are even close to his level.

>>2488791
give me as many years as he has and we will see who is better by that point. Jesus christ, if he didnt make the videos and posted his sketches in the draw thread, what would your reaction be? don't fucking lie to me and say that you would like it and encourage his work, you've shot down people for lighter offences than that in the past
>even his style is an application of fundimentals
that's kinda fucked up, like saying any style is an application of real life. of course it is. style is abstraction from real life

>>2488792
so lets say the amount of people who watch his videos and listen to him about fundamentals is roughly equivalent to the amount or people who actually use the sticky here; so like, me and you maybe, Idk. A beginner isnt going to watch him and go " better look up some fundimentals with loomis!" they are going to try to imitate him. I never said his intentions were bad, but his process, how messy his lines are and how he works is a bad habit to fall into for the beginners. I remember trying to draw like him, in elementary school and having to un-learn it when I decided that art is the only reason for living. Theres a video where he shows off this shortcut for drawing legs (all the while saying "this is just how I do it, you don't have to") and he draws a lighting bolt for support and builds around it. I thought that was the tightest shit back then and did all my legs that way, until I had to go back and re-learn it because thats not how legs fucking work. He had the best of intentions but it was inherently toxic to me. I don't hate the guy, or his work. I'm just wary before recommending him to anyone, and furthermore wary of people praising him blindly calling him "good", whatever the fuck that means.

I'm just disappoint in myself that I responded un-ironically to this thread, but I'm hoping my post sheds a little light on what happens in the normal circumstance
>>
>>2488848
>give me as many years and I'll be better! I swear!
But you're not so you have no right to look down on him.
You're not even going to last that long or get anywhere near his level. You're just another faggot who is parroting other assholes who never get anywhere.

Once you get to even half of sycras level you can start talking about how his techniques don't work for you. But considering even his shitty drawings people mock are far more advanced than your best work, it's more than a little ironic that you'd bash his techniques when you can manage better with your own.
