I'm afraid I have a bit of a questionable past, that if anyone knew my real name, and was inclined, they could easily find dirt on me. I'd like to avoid that.

I think it depends on the type of art.
Popular art can survive on Patreon, and there isn't any pishposh about Popular Artists living off of donations or selling to the public.
High Art and Contemporary Artists however usually frown on Public Selling; The movement of Art from one to another is considered rare, and online donations are considered low brow and trashy; oddly enough the local artist beggary isn't frowned upon because the true struggle of the down and out misunderstood and underappreciated artist is still held in high regard; think Van Gogh.

In my opinion no, I mainly post my art there, but I have less of an audience there in comparison to my blog and facebook. I prefer twitter greatly over tumblr, less children, less drama. I returned to tumblr today for a bit and was shocked at how cringy everything was compared to twitter.
