Let me just expand on this.
The amount of time that would need to be put into drawing something of that level of detail would be very high.
Next case, this doesn't look like pencil.
Pencil would cast light reflections into photographer's lenses.
So why are all of the max value parts not reflecting any light as if they were inked ?
This photo may look like it was actually done in pencil because of the grain, but it has no traits that pencil shows off in real life.

it's hard to tell but I wanna say it's not quite right given the scale. The tooth on the paper is pretty hardcore but you don't see any of it on the drawing itself. If it's "charcoal" at that scale there's no way that's charcoal. The tooth of the paper would be showing. a lot more. For fuck's sake you can even see the fibers.
Detail at that scale generally isn't done with pencils or charcoal but with pen and ink. Or etchings.

Totally agree. I do both illustration and photography.
If the point of a project I'm going for is to be super realistic.... than I use a model and my camera and props, lights/etc.
If the point of the project is to create a more abstract looking image, time to illustrate.
Then I also use both quite a bit. Hell, I've painted over many of my own photos for parts.
I suppose if you are super quick at reproducing photos in artwork, then go for it. Otherwise, just use a camera.. It's more efficient, and in the end it looks the same.

There's something weird going on with the values where it gets lighter than the paper tone in just the right places every time. Obviously that can't be done with a standard pencil, and if it was an effect of the camera or a filter, it would be applied more evenly, so that the lightening would happen in many more places. This is why it's fake, and I can't believe other people haven't called this out yet. If he was using a white pencil, he would have shown it beside the graphite. White pencils on toned paper also have lower accuracy than graphite, not to mention you'd get some mixing artifacts. So yes, it's fake. Even if it wasn't fake, it would still be a colossal waste of time copying a trashy photo down to a hair's breadth. I conclude my case that this guy is a colossal douche.
