Hey /ic, longish time art student here. I have been studying art for around 6 years now ( drawing, painting, graphics etc) , i have made alot of progress over the years. Sadly i don't have many examples of my artwork other than the 3 pictures i have on my phone from last term. Anyway, i study in a known artschool in eu, and im having some issues that are giving me problems to reach higher. I have zero problems doing studies at school, for example still life, acts, etc, however when it comes down to simply creative work of my own, i hit a brick wall. I often end up just staring at a blank page. Sometimes it feels like my mind is a blank page itself.
I have no idea what causes this, minor drugs, drinking from time to time, traumatic events in family life, past depression, lack of hapiness or love. I love art, and its one of the only things that im good at, but the lack of creative thinking i have experianced lately really brings me down. Has anyone ever had the same situation? How can i get my shit togeather?

draw/paint from life.

I am doing that regardless, but being creative on your own plays a huge part in getting somewhere. I want to create my own art
>>
>>2469425
maybe if you give yourself a purpose, like for example at first i declared that i needed to create something that people could enjoy , many artist made art thinking about it that way

>>2469420
What the fuck dude? That's exacly the opposite of what he has to do.
I know many people would disagree with me, but I think the creativity is not something innate. I think it can be teached and improbed. . Just try drawing more from imagination(I'm sure you already know what is to work hard on something). Also look for other authors to get inspired.

P.s If you think to much about if it has something to do with yourself, you won't do it

Art is probably not the only thing happening in your life, right? You could try making something related to that.
>>

The sad thing is i dont know if there is anything i can do other than art, no other talents really. Not alot of things i enjoy doing either

You don't have a process and a goal you strive towards.

Say to yourself what you want to improve, example "I want to improve my composition". Then every day do exercises on it, if you have a book on composition, work through it.

Don't force yourself though. Don't set amount of time on it. Just do it every day, so it will become part of your process. Even if you'll do 10 minutes a day, it will be something that will give you fun and sense of accomplishement - because it's what you want to do, it's what you set yourself to do.

Every day something for yourself. Think about it. Define what you want and make yourself a plan, so you won't even think about it and just include it into your painting process.

Maybe it's an idea to leave the cave a bit more and see what's more around you. There must be more things that interest you than just art.

Draw anything that comes to mind.

If that fails draw cute anime girls.
>>
You're the only one who's ever going to appreciate your art to its fullest extent. Might as well draw something you like. If you don't like anything, make something you like.
>>
I think first off it'd probably be good to temper your expectations.
Drawing from reference vs imagination are two very different things, your work from imagination probably won't look anywhere near as good as your referenced work.
If you hold yourself up to the same standards there's a good chance you'll get frustrated and give up or you'll find a comfort zone and wall yourself in.

I also wouldn't be too concerned with the quality of ideas at first, it doesn't have to be the most original drawing ever.

If you're really at a lack of ideas you surely have some sort of drawings you did
back before you started going to art school?
Re-visit and re-imagine one of your old works, see if there's any way to improve it, maybe alter the composition or perspective, or maybe the design is a little weak.

I like to look at stuff on deviant art and "re-appropriate" ideas from beginner artists, so if you don't have any of your own this could also work.
Because their standards aren't as high they tend to draw more freely.
You can find some pretty interesting concepts out there.

Why do I even post here, /ic must be the biggest fucking collection of idiot fucktards in the history of mankind. You think every "flaw" is because of a lack in skill, you don't see what the person intended or not. You strive for some form of perfection that can be found in textbooks and classical paintings, but fail to see that isn't what the creator is going for. You fucking pricks need to get of your high horse, and instead of bitching and critiquing and being mad as fuck just admit not only am I talented I'm rad as fuck.

Visualize beautiful things as you go about your day and wait until one strikes you. Or, just do art from life. Photographers get away with it.
>>
>>2473468
Oh, and consume more media/life.

Most writers believe their art to be greatly improved by wisdom. Why not the visual arts? This disparity could well be the cause of all the lifelessness in modern art anyway.
>>
read books. draw environment/stuff you read about and how you think it does look. it looks different for everyone else
>>
Sleep deprivation.

Or try and express things trought your art

Most important, unlike technical drawing DON'T CRITIQUE tout own thoughts, maybe they wont seem very intéresting to other peoples or even you at first but if you find à way to let it flow, both intéresting or weird/nonsense ideas, between à hundred of them you'll fond something that you seek.

Do creative exercices, as easy as drawing how you perceive yourself, bé it as naïve as it sound, when you seek creativity dont't fear to have fun and create stuff thats à 5 year Old could have fun while doing.
And then you slap all tout technical and construction skills on top of it and bam got it.

Wank to your own nsfw drawing
