Why do so many amateur artists have explosive amounts of followers?

Why do so many amateur artists have explosive amounts of followers? I know it's the fanart, but I've seen good fanart not get the same amount of attention as the worse stuff, and I don't know why.
>>
They know how to market themselves. Doesn't matter how good your art is if you don't know how to sell yourself.

This pic is not amateur, 99% of /ic/ no cann´t draw something like this

The characters stick to a mainstream style that's easy to pull off.

They don't worry about virtuosic designs and go for popular appeal. Because of this they can spend more time advertising and networking.
To them it's about getting their product to people rather than perfecting it.

Yeah there are some bad artists with big following. They either network better, post more art (quantity), started earlier, focus on something popular (like drawing adoptables / free requests). There is usually some reason for their popularity.

I think some autistic fans actually prefer very amateur looking art. Like, they could feel like the artist is more on their level or something. They are not looking for realism or even close similarity to source material. Think of all the terrible but popular Sonic Hegehog OC artists.

If you're talking about fanart for kids shows, kids are on the Internet, and their tastes are not developed / they will follow rough artwork that looks like it's the product of other kids. Just some ideas.

there were already millennia better SU fanart posted here than this.
stop speaking out of your ass

they know how to sell stuff. They know what captivates the mainstream. They know what to sell. They don't spent most of their time whining.

>They don't spent most of their time whining.
This is a fucking joke, right? They're the biggest whiners and drama queens on the internet.

>Artist of OP's image tried to kill herself because people said mean things about her SU fanart.

It feels like discount Gashi, but you're right.

Whether or not something is amateur is not judged based on the gauge of /ic/'s skill level. This isn't class graded on a learning curve. Your talent in art is based on your own merit and how well you apply good foundation principles, not based on those around you.

This pic has poor form construction, glossy coloring that makes the figures look flat and pillow shaded, bad poses (Garnet is especially hard to read), ugly faces, proportions all out of whack, flat coloring, flat stiff inking (There's no weight in the lines, it's so sterile and perfect). The piece overall doesn't grab your attention or lead your eye around anywhere. It's amateurish.

Every other post on this board is "Not like anyone here can do better", mate.

An increasing number of autistic shutins and socially retarded men and women, like the whole feminism/lgbt/SJW community. Pathetic people have low standards and will throw money at anything that caters to their fetishes or sickening world view.
>>
>>2466095
Art also isn't graded on how perfect it applies everything.
People like it, so they follow. That's all there is to it. Rather than drawing perfect art some people just draw appealing art. And that's what matters when it comes to fans.

This

Probably it's the drama and attention whoring that nets them audience, they'd be nobodies otherwise

>Why do so many amateur artists have explosive amounts of followers?
was thinking about this just yesterday and discussing it with my friend.
SO MANY young tumblr-tier artists even shittier than your picture have so many followers
It's basically because they young social and spread/share the same autistic tumblr tier shit

1) Fan art on SU/Undertale/MLP/other crap
2) Draw in the same style with bright colors
3) (the MOST important) draw lots and lots cute and kawaii-esque girls and waifus

It's basically a bunch of teenagers that like to hanging out together and share some stuff. Nothing that unusual.
Back when i started to draw (2006) we didn't had such a wide art community.
It all were shitty sonic recolorists and boring Conceptart Org professionals.
It wasnt that social back then.

they dont know shit you autist
They just being kids and drawing what is popular.

>thinking that average retarded MLP-artist or a 18 y/o girl that drew Sans as nigger is a genius that did a complicated Market Research and found an easy way about captivating the mainstream.
Yeah. no
they did that because its current teenage hype
>>
>>2466432
Yeah, sometime the fame comes accidentally because they started liking certain series and wanted to draw fanart.
It not like they had this evil plan to collect pawns by appealing to the mainstream and shit, some are just very unfortunate kids.
I remember this one girl knew who became popular thanks to homestuck shit, well, she shared some "controversial" opinions (for tumblr standards) once and all 55.000+ followers she had suddenly turned on her for blood.
She couldn't understand how being extremely popular and well known makes shit like that happens, like how once you hit some point you have to be careful with the stuff you share because you don't really know who's following you, it's the same with celebrities.
But she couldn't understand it because, really, she was just a 15 year old kid that never expected to became popular in just a few months and didn't know shit about hadling the masses.

That picture looks professional and is marketable, something most of /ic/ lacks. They would rather sit here and try to render a turd to make themselves feel better about "muh anatomy" than actually making pictures that people want. They're self-centered and are lacking perspective. Most of the people on here are hobbyists that lie to themselves with, "I'll git gud one day. My day will come, just wait."
>>
>>2466689
>thinking that getting acknowledgement by a bunch of 12 year olds is better than studying anatomy.

You're not going to make it.

>not realizing literally everyone outside of this clubhouse doesn't care

No my friend, you aren't gonna make it.

Fans are starved for content and the studios can only produce so much; fan made works fill a gap that the studios can't. Especially these days in the era of binge watching, people aren't satisfied with one episode a week for a few weeks a year and nothing else. Artist with less polished works are often more popular because it means the artist is producing a lot of content more quickly, and all it takes to gain followers is to post often. Fans eat it up because they're so hungry they'll eat anything.

It also helps that fan content will do stuff canon content (and more polished fanartists, usually) won't do, like pairings and porn and AUs, etc. Polished artists will do more portfolio level work in style and concept (ie boring) because they want to show off their skill, like spending 9 hours on a painted piece; an artist who is less polished can crank out a 5 page comic in 9 hours of a popular ship going on a date and people lose their mind because they're in love with the relationships and characters, not how nice you can paint.

>not caring about fundamentals
>rather circlejerk with other fanartists and be a one trick pony.

You're not going to make it.
>>

Oh please, stop being an elitist. Fanart is how people get views, favorites, commissions, posters sold, whatever. It's how you make money. You can have your own art, you can make stuff that you really like but, the reality is that people probably won't like it unless it's fun and relatable. You have to be a very good writer to market your comics and such or else you're stuck drawing fan-art or commissions for money. It's not that you shouldn't care about fundamentals or anatomy, you're just missing the entire point. You NEED to be marketable, you need to be a good businessman. Stop romanticizing. The normies are the masses with money, not this place, and not you.
