They should burn all these kinds of books they cause to much damage to new age artists
>>
The damage is allready done, and it would be no good if they didn't also burn all the people in jewtube making tutorials of things they don't know how to draw in the first place
>>
>>2432023
If people can't tell just by looking that the author of this abomination can't draw for shit, then they never had a chance to begin with

It basically does no damage because it dosn't teach you anything anyway.
>>
>not using this to your advantage
you'll stand out even as being average as you are, it's better than having no fundamental knowledge in drawing at all.

Real artists don't do crappy kid like anime cartoon drawings.

If you want to be a manga artist make self published manga book and start from the fundamentals.

Also whatever you do don't listen to the weeb advice on /ic/

It's improved, but it's not good, and given the amount of time that's passed she's probably stuck in bad habits. The main take away that I've received from this person is to choose your teachers wisely.

Also reader reviews to show the main target audience:

This book or a book like it? Books like this aren't a problem for a hobbyist. The author of this one in particular is notoriously bad at drawing though.

I think Michael Hampton is a good start if you're serious about figure drawing. He lays things out pretty clearly for beginners.

I didn't really know what to say back because A) he didn't see his drawings as total dogshit, and B) he was so out of touch with social media he didn't know how it worked.

That's not nearly as bad as the massive amount of artists on DevArt who are "passable" enough to make people think they are good, and go on teaching things that they lack no understanding of whatsoever.
Pic related can clearly draw a form but doesn't understand anything about how to light a face. There's no reason the nose should ever look like that. It's like they removed the person's nosebone. Holy shit /ic/, this whole "burn degenerate shit" thing needs to stop.
I swear everytime I am here there will be someone crying about what the "next generation" has for sources and how said sources are disgusting and "damaging".

What you fucks keep on forgetting while sucking Loomis his dick, is that this shit actually motivates people to DRAW. That's the first step to this shit, and it isn't rocket science.

Be fucking glad that there are at least some people willing to help others, while you lazy fucks just ramble on about how it is "poisoning" the newest generation artist. If some of them truly wants to become better, they will do more research on things and get more resources to improve their skill.

If you feel this much up your ass about it, go do it yourself then. The least you could fucking do is giving some comprehensible feedback on the first awful furry drawing you see on deviantart, only without being a dick.

Else, stop crying about shit that doesn't concerns you NOR should concern you.

I had that exact book in 5th grade.
And I went on to buy 3 more of these shits and it put me so far back behind people that actually could draw for shit and looking back on it I just now realized that my dad bought me an entire pack of copic markers to try to support me

I am so so sorry father
So many pentagon-head deviantart-eye shit drawings.

That was nice of your Dad! not all parents are supportive. The books you posted look better than Katy Coope(?) OPs books.

Out of curiosity I went to Christopher Harts site to look at his art...this was posted yesterday.
>>
>>2446871
It looks like the work of an exceedingly mediocre /ic/ beginner thread denizen. How long has he been drawing, again?
>>
>>2446930
Uncertain, he seems to be around for ages. On his website it says

>Chris studied art at the California School of the Arts, Paier School of Art, and the Silvermine School of Art. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from New York University.

I am not from the States, but that is a lot of art qualifications no? Also notice that he calls himself an author mainly.

I have many of those in PDF!

It was also a Japan expo near my house and they were selling them! Shit m8.

Those books aren't that great, but they have references to the Loomis method and such.

I bought a couple of japanese Microns there...

Different anon from the one that posted before, but I have about 3 Dutch how to draw manga books from the same publisher, most of them involve way less Chris Hart then that one at least, but it's still not great.

I've still recovering from the damage.

The only redeeming factor of this book was not all the art work was by Christopher Hart.

Actually just went through this book yesterday after finding it in a stack of old sketch books , laughed for a solid 15 minutes, then cried myself to sleep.

Goodness I hate Jazza's art and animation. People should be studying cartooning books from the '40s and '50s (or basically anything from before the '70s) instead of these Youtube gurus.
>>
>>2432262
I mean...My first was a "How to draw bishies" book by him (yeah. fucking kill me lmfao. i was a 13 year old girl what do you expect?) and if I hadn't slacked off and not drawn for a few years because of depression I would be even better than I am now, and i"m not that bad. I grew out of anime and started studying more so there's hope.

I think if it's for young kids it's not a big deal cause i got tons of "How to draw cats" books and shit and a lot of them were kinda...symboly?

Books are just cheap ways for already rich(yet untalented) artists to make more money off of teenagers.

If you're not studying the sub-genre of art you like and trying to replicate their style...
You're failing at becoming an artist.

there's obviously a market for 'how to draw manga' books.

why isn't there a, 'how to translate anatomy and life drawing into manga stylized figure drawing', book?
>>
>>2449949
They're are...in Japan.
Japan also boast a great selection of reference picture books for mangaka that include poses and angle shots. A lot of them have a theme (school girls, two guys, two girls, fighters, office ladies) and they look immensely helpful. Also there's that How To Draw Manga series from the 90s that's been translated and brought to the US.

When I was younger I used to own the entire collection. I literally went to the bookstore and special ordered what wasn't in stock. I feel like a damn idiot for giving them all away to my friend when I went to the military. To this day they call me to ask when I want them back. They're still pretty helpful.

They have a lot of good advice about manga specific tools like tone and dip pens. It kinda went over my head as a kid but now I wouldn't mind having those resources at hand.

I notice that a lot of the current How To Draw Manga books coming from Japan are moeshit.

The closest thing to that I can think of (and it's really not close at all, really) is the Famous Artists Cartoon Course you can get from here

but it's a scholastic book, that makes it better than what /ic/ tells you
>>
>>2452463
Not that HTDM shill from earlier in the thread, but the first few How to Draw Mango books what with the specific font are similar to FACC if you're too much of a weeb faggot to enjoy western cartoons.
>>
>>2449949
Because bookstores sell shit when it comes to every topic. You need to find speciality stores for manga/comic or go straight to the source (japan.)
>>
>>2432324
If shit like this can get published then I should go into make children's books too. How hard is it to get something published by Scholastic any way? Obviously it has to be atleast PG rated

Fuck you David Chelsea and fuck you Scott McCloud for shilling your hack buddy's book.

This guy had the nerve of writing a perspective book when he clearly never used any of the methods he explains. Made some research and it turns out this asshole's process is based on tracing 3D models and porn.

I will believe that the clunky diamond thing is a zipper pull, and maybe, maybe, also a fastener. But I refuse to believe there is a technology that would make it possible for a zipper to be realistically defined with only two lines. Especially if pulling it two inches up your chest suddenly makes your sleeves and waist tighter. Suspension of disbelief terminated. Goddamn, don't make specific panels on how the clothes are constructed if you don't understand yourself.

Also, how is this a fusion of anything? Shit's moe as fuck.

The Sketching Manga Style series is technically good, but it's still pushing you towars that kind of 80s mango style.

There's no reason to pick it up over an actual anatomy book, but there are tips on linework and props that are nice to read about.

Also this series is pretty good regarding balloons, inking et cetera.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3lmfhBXFo0qVefpRkL9Bxw/videos

Yes the intro and format are absolutely cringe but the content is valid, most of the time.
>>
>>2432023

and the 80s of drawing tools.

It makes me always cringe if people still use the same stuff from ages ago.

Aside the style (as a beginner, if you are serious you should be happy with any style as long as you can make manga and train) the tools are what is most annoying. It's a waste of money.
>>
>>2459816
Yeah I was making an argument against traditional in another thread. And that's coming from someone who does everything traditionally.
>>
>>2459849
Well, I wouldn't go that far. I think I can do much better with pencil+ink than digital and I wouldn't be surprised if this holds true for other people. The only problem I have with these books is that they show outdated traditional tools, not that traditional tools are outdated.
