The first reason is that there is allways someone getting butthurt because either it's not good enough or that his contribution has been overlooked.
The second reason is that we all like to be special snowflakes. So we prefer to make something new that we can post later on our tumblr and be proud of and get all the lovely likes and shares and feel all giddy about our live.
We had some collab thread in the last few month but i haven't seen a limited color thread in a while. Those are can be fun and challenging too.

Someone gave a crit, and the butthurt anon demanded they post their work. Crit-anon did, and it was the marine pic (not named merc_wip, though). Butthurt anon started spamming it and it became a shitmeme. I have no idea what it's supposed to mean. Something about polishing turds/space marine concept art weebs/shitposting. Original artist actually explained the situation a while back on some thread. Don't know if I cap'd it, but I'll check.

No, that's what people are doing when they found a branch they like and think has potential. If no one would be experimenting with ideas and everyone would just work with what the last anon posted, then the first person who posts in these threads would always establish the core idea and composition, no matter how bad it might be.

yeah i worked on it mostly zoomed out, was hoping that someone likes it and refines it
the images are large so they're better to paint onto on ps, but i made it a bit smaller than the original
e.g. if i would've made that pic 900x1000 then the next person would have to upscale it and work with a heavily compressed jpg image.
