how do i utilize warm and cool colors when im oil painting? should i only, for instance, mix a lemon yellow with an ultramarine blue, or are there times where its more appropriate to use a cooler blue? im just moving on from using three primaries and white in my paintings and im a little confused. also any knowledge you have on oil painting or color mixing in general would be nice.

What exactly are you asking?
What are you painting from? Life or Photograph? When beginning oil painting use a limited palette, you are able to mix any kind of blue using just the ultramarine and mixing into either a yellow, red, and white paying close attention to the ratio of each when mixed. Paint and mix what you see, and with given practice colour mixing will improve naturally as you pay attention to the relationships between the hues (using opposites to neutralise/grey)
