Anyone else substituting achievement in your career or social life for trying to get good at art?
>look at those stupid tryhard faggots pulling in 100k with 2 months vacation and beautiful wife and kids while I'm stuck in a dead end job making 40k with 3 weeks vacation and constantly having to reject the advances of 6/10s while constantly being rebuffed by 7/10s. At least I have art.

Pretty much yeah. Maybe if I get half decent at art my life won't be a complete waste. I doubt it though.
You've described the past five years of my life perfectly.

If your still pretty young and making over 40k a year you are doing half decent
It's just how it's gotta be. I keep a job that quite often pays below minimum wage just because downtime is guaranteed free time to draw.
>/ic/ and feng zhu told me to go coccoon mode and get good
>five years later
>no friends, no gf, family thinks I'm a loser
>don't socialize outside of my shitty dayjob
>too tired/depressed to draw most days
Don't fall for the cocoon mode meme, bros.
Nope I'm not that stupid. I'm going to med school while drawing constantly.

how can anyone think "cocoon mode" is anything but bad for you? it makes you a social retard.
I went to Gnomon for 3 years then graduated and landed a $80k/year character design job at an AAA company.
Not shitposting. I think some of you are seriously clueless on how to kickstart your careers.

Most people don't go into specifics, they're too scared to shatter the illusion of success being handed to them on a silver platter as long as they keep the vague goal of 'drawing everyday.'
I mean, is that not why most of you freaks think drawing is for you? The one last hermitmode way of grabbing a piece of pie in this modern world without becoming a 'normie,' when in reality it's no different?

Post your work and put a shoe on your head

As is tradition.
>>2421159
oh but it is very different anon.

>implying you could have the other stuff if you didn't have art
It's the ultimate excuse. You know it. I know it.

Feng told me to git gud ;_;

Should be, but if you live in a metropolitan area it's pretty difficult to get ahead. I'm 24 and have lived with my parents for the last year and half and have 60k saved, putting away 95% of my paycheck each pay period, which admittedly isn't doing that bad for someone who foolishly majored in the liberal arts, but it's pretty difficult to imagine ever having any chance of escaping wage slavery which is a huge drag.
My only chance is buying a 3br 1ba house in a cheap up and coming area close to downtown for around 100k and renting the two rooms out so I can exit the 40/hour work week, ditch the car and all associated expenses, and focus on living life and making money from my hobbies, writing, translating, editing (what I do now) and in a few years drawing and saving enough to have substantial income from dividends and interest. But it will be a long grind to get there. If only my parents had made me major in accounting...
