Anyone experimented with deepart.io?
I think it's a glimpse of what we can expect from computere algorithms in the future. While the results of my submission wasn't perfect, I'm still pretty impressed with it.
It's free to submit a picture but it takes several hours before it's ready. And also you only see it in low resolution as in pic related. You'll have to pay 39 euro for a 1300x1300 version which is pretty fucking ridiculous. But please try it out. Most people seem to use the site for stupid selfies. I think /ic/ can be more creative than that.
>>2405992
>But please try it out.
are you shilling for them in a 'clever' way?
>>2406003
No, I just want to see what other artists could come up with as opposed to the people who just want a new facebook picture. I have another image in the queue but it takes forever.
>>2405992
I hear the algorithm is pretty weak atm, with too broad of generalizations with key concepts like overall shapes and mouths, etc.
It'll probably be pretty cool in a few years though.
>>2406007
It's not amazing but I think the foam came out pretty cool on my test.
>>2405992
can't wait for photobashers to bash some picture together and just randomly apply some old masters work on it.
only way i see this being useful is to photobash some shit together, run it through deepdream to unify the style, and use that as a base to paint over
>>2406009
True, neat foam.
>>2405992
that shit is FREE (e.g. https://github.com/andersbll/neural_artistic_style)
you only need a decent pc with a supported nvidia card, and a ton of patience to make it actually work.
>>2406068
Okay cool, is there a way to use it that doesn't require you to be a programmer?
>>2405992
Who painted that image on the right? Those are some sweet creamy waves. Would copy paste into my WoW concept art piece.

>>2406183
Uh, that's the link I posted in OP? :^)
>>2406434
I wouldn't be surprised if the polskis weren't already doing this shit. I know the akvis thing was going around but OPs image looks pretty next level, but it's hard to say from the thumb. Not clicking the link because this reeks of a shill thread, maybe the pic in op is just bs
some that i enjoyed from looking at the site.
>>2406566
fuck art is over lads go home
OP here with my second attempt. Well this looks pretty garbage and shows the limits of what it can do. Is it so much to ask to get cows mounted with laser turrets? :^)
>>2406590
It seems to just take the value pattern of one and combine it with the texture and colour of the other.
>>2406133
there's a difference between not being a programmer and being retarded with computers. just a matter of patience and perseverance, like any problem you'll have to solve in order to become a proficient artist
>>2406597
Well, I don't know anything about coding (and frankly I could care less about it - one can only be good at so many things) so I guess that makes me "retarded with computers" then. That url you posted might as well have been written with ancient sumerian glyphs :^)

>>2406807
This is either more OPs shilling or you are extremely retarded.
606 minutes...
Oh well, it's time to give up art.
>>2406604
there's so many implementations since august last year that a version for retards like us is inevitable. I tried for months to install the deep dream with animals and architecture filter, until they made that vagrant 1 click install thing.
in the meantime, this seems to be a better free non watermarked online alternative:

>>2406971
you could use some more iterations, but yeah, the main problem with the online thing is that you can't play with all the parameters
estimate time...108min...
this better not be longer as it is just an "estimate"
>>2405992
That is pretty cool but i mean it's basically just really cool "some of them" photoshop filters.. we have had this for years.
Some people are really good at making there pictures look more painted even to the point of almost being able to pass off as painting doesn't really mean anything to be at the end of the day..
i don't feel intruded on if that is what is being implied.
>>2407031
Top left is a photo and top right is a painting by Ruo Li. Bottom is the result of the deepart computer algorithm applied to the photo with Ruo Li's painting as a style guide.
alrighty the results are in bois.

These look better than 90 percent of all artists I've seen. Imagine how much better this software will get.
It seems like traditional painting from reference is gonna be automated. I guess people will always want the human element.

Man this is bullshit. Deviantart is gonna be full of this garbage.
>>2407410
Give it some decades and yeah I agree, for the near future I see this as yet another tool for professionals but still only a supplement to a toolbox of skills. People are always going to want specific skills and specific styles and the deepart technology is still in its infancy so we won't see professional creatives being rid of just yet.
I'd like to see people really going in to edit and tweak their results, the coloring is very impressive but it tends to positively mangle forms. Anyway the results could be separated into layers?
>>2407459
That's what clay sculptors said when 3D modelling software started showing up.
>>2408077
Oh wait fuck I just thought I had an idea: how could this be used in animation?
3d has been chasing the photorealism tale for ages now and 2d stagnated at flat cel coloring, imagine if deepart technlogy could be used to create more fantastical, stylized results. It could look gorgeous.
>>2408078
a majority of movie concept and concept props are still done traditionally with clay by an actual sculptor.

Am I the only one disgusted at how good some of those look? sigh.
>>2408283
I can see it now kek.
>>2408815

So where are the ruan ones?
>>2408818
It's still a very good proof of concept.
The algorithm seems quite good, it's just the finer details that need work.
I can see plenty of hacks combining a photo with this and then touching it up a little in photoshop to pass it off as their own work.
>>2408828

sure thing dead media man.
It seems to work best with photographs, easily the ugliest results we've seen are when people have put in stylized artwork.
The human brain is itself is very powerful at pattern recognition so to my eye I've started picking up on the 'tells' that clue you in to, 'this is a fancy filter'. If it ever starts becoming common enough I can see people fatiguing of it (think of how awesome shitty graphics looked when you were young), so maybe what you'd want to do is mix the photograph with a simple piece, and then filter the end result a final time.
>>2406594
I think it'a more similar to the google pictures that were released earlier. Instead of recognizing familiar things in images, it generates familiar things on images.
Wow this thing took a long time

>>2408091

>>2414657
They don't look "good" per-say.
They look like they're retaining, to a certain degree, the style or aesthetics to warrant something as a "nice" looking piece, but it's highly evident that these are generated by a computer.
The copious amounts of distortion, blurring and artifacts in these make them look like complete ass. So much of the finer details are lost.
At most, you could use this as an assistant, for experimenting with how to achieve a certain look in your art. You could use it on a base, before adding fine details, and that might be of some use for judging how you might continue with that piece.
But I can't see it being used to straight up replace the entire process of making art.
The scenarios where the quality of these outputs would be acceptable would have to be rather niche market.
Eg. a music video where each frame of a person is painted to look like a different style.
The scenario where they will likely be used, is in things like games, where you might have something like a painting of a character on a wall, and they've just taken the lazy route and ran existing character art through a tool to generate a stylized image.

What will you do when the likes of Frazetta Bot, Sargent Bot, Jia Bot and just about whatever you can think of comes to fruition in droves? Robots that can draw and paint in any style at will: there's no way to compete with that.
The only way to win is to become the robots.
>>2418867
I predict that we will have a short honey moon period when this technology enters the scene. We will be able to hear new Mozart compositions, read personalized novels written by dead authors with ourselves as the protagonists and create an endless stream of Oscar worthy movies with any actors we like. Not to mention the possibilities with porn... Combined with virtual friends and partners, just like in the movie Her. Fuck. It will be the most awesome thing imaginable. For a while. And then we realize that we are just worthless bags of flesh that are inferior to the machines in every possible way.
>>2418917
It's like that one episode in Kino no Tabi where there's a country that has robots that do all the work for them but the people still do busy work because they need to do something to feel alive and useful.
>>2418917
>porn
Unwitting degeneracy will likely be punished greatly, since those in control of things like VR should eventually be capable of trapping people's minds within those realms and can fuck with them until they get tired of it along with brainwashing and reprogramming them. Kind of like pic related. I guess that would be dependent on if it becomes like fucking Skynet though.
Of course even if there isn't anything else other than the user manipulating that kind of tech, it would only get more addictive as the tech improves, and maybe you might be able to have direct input with your neural circuitry so that there's never any diminishing returns. For example, you could change your intake of dopamine to feel like you're getting the same or more amounts of pleasure and satisfaction every time you engage with that porn VR. Then you'll never get tired of it and the hedonists were right after all. It would be so easy to incapacitate and dispose of humanity with that kind of power.
There's always the Singularity, though.
>>2409818
I think its the way they're going about it. The problem is that computer don't read into the work - so they dont read forms - they just read patterns. The algo is still amazing though and I'm sure if they learn to teach them how to read a painting in terms of form, relationships, and stuff like that.
It will happen eventually. Don't doubt it for a second and don't think you can stop it.
