Thread for the beginners
Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises. Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up.
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

Questions go in the QUESTION THREAD
This is for posting studies & getting critique.
>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're a baddie.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless. (hint: post a cute anime girl if you would like replies)
Respect those giving you advice and if you s*ck know that you'll never make it™.
Old thread: >>2348862 → → → →
how can people like drawing on those rougher sketchbooks? I use a mechanical pencil and it just smudges everywhere. It's even worse that I'm left handed so I'm forced to draw right to left so avoid smudges.
Also, comments? I should probably get into anatomy but I don't know where to start. Most resources seem to just throw at you an anatomy list and expects you to memorize every single muscle in the body.
What size should I resize my shitty beginner shit as?
>>2358876
1000x1000 is fine
Always crooked and never properly positioned.
This the first anything I've done/practiced in years. Pls no bully.
>>2358874
>>2358876
as big as you can without the image being like 3mb
>>2358874
>memorize every single muscle in the body.
sounds about right :^(
>>2358900
surely there would be key parts to remember though? Unless you're going for perfect anatomy.
I want to learn to paint, specifically watercolor. Do I need to start out doing pencil sketches? Will it save me money spent on hundreds of bad watercolor paintings?
Basically I want something like pick related in my main room, but rather than spending $300 on it I'd rather have my own genuine painting on the wall, no matter how long it took to make.
For reference, this painting is 41"x31"
>>2358918
Right, I'm an idiot.
>>2357720
All 5 min. I've done many more sheets than just this one, but I tore those up and trashed them. I only kept this one to post for LAS and here.
Just curious what does that LAS stands for? :) I'm skimming through lots of art communities and haven't heard yet about that one. :D And, your structure sketches are good.
>>2358874
Graphite smudges on anything. Learn to hold a pencil properly. Anatomy isn't about memorizing every muscle in the body, you're just learning about the forms. Start with big simple masses and work your way towards more detailed representation. I can tell you right now from that drawing that you're not ready for figure drawing yet. Figure drawing is advanced, people keep jumping straight into it, there's a reason art students draw fruit and vases. Work through Keys to Drawing and do studies of simple shit until you can draw accurately.
Even if you're going to practice figure drawing use a nude, don't use weird fucking bodysuit shit because it obscures important details.
>>2358918
Any beginner should start with pencil. Watercolour is very difficult to use, and when you bring colour into the mix things get even more difficult. If you can't do an accurate study of a moose like that rendered in pencil, you don't have a chance in hell of doing it in watercolour. Anyways, look at the sticky, and if you want to start learning to draw, get Keys to Drawing and work through it. In all honesty, you're going to be looking at years of study, this is probably a lot more work than you're thinking. If just wanting to have a painting of a moose on your wall is your only goal, you're probably better off just buying the painting. You're not going to save any money learning to paint either.
trying to over come symbol drawing and working on my shapes
how I do
it feels fake to me
maybe I just need to draw more boxes and shit
>>2358874
i find hamptons book about anatomy good for beginners
critic pls
>>2358964
i really believe that starting drawing from dicks is not a way to go.
how about you start to actually study anything basic and fundamental before dicks? Unless you want to be like thos autismal lowskill pornfags with cringeworthy progress meme?
>>2359029
shadow is too big, the more of the ball should be illuminated, rimlight on the left is WAAAAAy to bright, bounce light at the bottom could use refinement, no occulusion, the cast shadow on the table is bullshit.
Way to go pal, practice more and ge a softer brush for that.
>repost from old thread
I wanna get into drawing clothes and fashion so i started a drapery study. But i dont think this is the way to go for now, i feel like this turned more into a value study than anything else. Should i continue this or should i look to draw actual clothing on people to learn how the folds are formed?
>>2358881
still too much symbol drawing
I finished Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. I read it through and did all the exercises, then did it again.
Should I continue with Keys to Drawing or go to Loomis?

Oh I get it now, tyvm. xD
>>2359073
Is it possible for you to show last bits of drawings from DotRSotB? I'd like to see some. :) I'm going through loomis book for now, never had I attempted to go through keys to drawing or DotRSotB. If it's as good as people say it is then I just might, eventually.
The drawing is last one I did from FDfaiW by loomis. Ain't that far in, yet. Maybe i'll improve gradually as I will be close to half of the book.
wtf is wrong with him
>>2359045
thanks m8, should i read color and light?
>>2359086
any book you can recommend on this?
>>2359073
Is this a good book? judging by the title it seems gimmicky.
I'm reading Keys to Drawing as the sticky recommends and I think it's very useful.
>>2358959
what is symbol drawing?
>>2359112
Too stiff. Try drawing with more flow-y lines and tone down the rigid lines.
>>2359086
Hmm Idk, Hampton goes through it briefly in his book and although not a book, Types of folds by Barbara Bradley helped me alot and you can find on google
>>2359125
>>2359133
oh right. Bert Dodson taught me about this.
>>2359133
Trying to get better at this, here's a drawing a did from the last thread.
I'll see if I can find the reference I used and post that too. It lines up pretty well, though I know I have the lips too far up.
>>2359154
Here's the ref. Also just noticed I forget to do the pink bit of the right eye. Whoops.
>>2359133
i remade this thing from the origina some time ago but ive recently been bothered by the lack of completion in the iris of the eye, should i go and complete it or not?
how long until I don't have to care about my drawings I can just woosh woosh woosh and have a wolf that actually looks like a wolf like what everyone else does?
>>2359133
I like this.
>>2359158
Well you can start by not 'caring' about your drawings. Just look at each one as an improvement (providing that you are improving-- which if you're drawing every day, you probably are.) It takes time. So does everything. Grind away, mien frond
>>2359176
ganbate!!!!!! mon ami
>>2359154
So you made one drawing and now you're going to post it in every single thread like a fag? Either keep drawing new shit or fuck off there is no hope for you.
>>2359203
A. When I posted it last thread we were beyond bump limit and I didn't get any comments, so I thought I'd ask a second time.
B. Holy fuck, chill.
How do I fix it I wanted to make heart hands for my bf but I think I messed up . Im looking at a ref too
Any pro tips on how to quit symbol drawing?
I saw that picture in the thread and I'm working on that.
Any good articles/books? More exercises?
>>2359158
Nobody just goes woosh woosh woosh here's a wolf. Art takes time, always.
>>2359324
of course except for those cunts that really go woosh woosh and make a beautiful drawing. Like the dudes in animation with their gestures that look more alive than real people fucking hell.

Because I still haven't measured the size of the paper yet. I assumed that it would be far too big when I drew the under line. Next time I'll draw the overhead line instead that way I can measure the anatomy correctly.
>>2359692
senpai why are u in a beginner thread
>>2359695
>>2359708
Well, I thought it should still belong here because it's my first digital thing with a tablet that I'm trying to complete, prior to this the last 2 weeks I've been sketching to get comfortable and only touching the colors for a failed and incomplete animu drawing. So I'm technically a tablet beginner but I guess it turns out my semanthics are wrong I guess, shall I copy paste my ass to the Draw Thread?
Is copying other people's art a functional way to expand your visual library? I can't into background objects so I started aping an artist I dig and I dunno if this is a mistake.
>>2359718
I don't think so, your favorite artists' influence will leak anyways in an unconscious way, so you can just speed the nitpicking process up by copying what you specifically like from an artist and putting your own spin on it, again consciously or unconsciously. That's how I see it anyways.
>>2359586

Noob looking for critique. Are there any major issues so far (especially re: width and shoulders/neck)?
Ignore the shitty MSPaint placeholder shading. I think there's an issue with the (our) left arm's length/foreshortening.

>>2359796

>>2359793
a 5 X 5 grid of boxes with one from the top in the center, each box being turned a bit in the direction it deviates from the center, as sort of a perspective exercise. Tryina figure out how to into freehand 3 point.
>>2359787
Thanks for ego boost senpai
>>2359798
I did some basic construction to try and get the torso right (hips, spine, lungs) and gesture lines before hand but I'm pretty sure I fucked up the construction hard anyway, since it's my first time trying to do something that isn't a straight-on angle.

what do you think of mine?
>>2359872
not that nig, but it looks like you were ref'ing concept art or character designs after watching a sycra vid or something based on the visual language you're using
can't comment on the approach, beyond my preference for gesture as rhythm and angles depicting motion
>>2359881
i wasn't referencing anything actually. should i use references like pictures of athletes?
>>2359884
Yeah, I'd recommend drawing from ref. Can't really say much more without revealing that I'm just a scrub who's focused on depicting motion atm. Shit's pretty cash for unreferenced stuff imo, looks very organic despite some things that are a tad wonk.
im brand new to drawing. where should i start? age 21
>>2359920
I'm new too but I've found Andrew Loomis's tutorials are good.
What do you want to draw?
little things like this, someone on /i/ did this in 3seconds and it kinda blows me away because it has emotion and life to it. i want to be as slick lol
>>2359936
i forgot to post the pic lol
>>2359902
depicting motion? i've always had trouble trying to depict stuff like dynamics and energy/flow. im used to just drawing what i see, not what's going on, so i give you kudos for going that route.
i'm just worried if i'm taking the bad approach to gesturing, but i guess more referencing would help.
>>2359940
i feel screwed because i didnt start when i was younger so i dont develop the drawing hand. also some kids on here can draw like a demon, HOLY SHIT lol
>>2359940
Try it out fambone, maybe even ape an artist you like who does comic book type stuff. Action poses, that sort of shit. There's a lot to be said by strong lines of action, rhythms and strong diagonals. Reference drawing is worth it but don't forget to nurture your drawing from imagination.
>>2359943
nah don't think about that dude. there's always gonna be someone younger than you, even if you were there age there's probably some fetus that can draw better than bridgeman or feng zhu. i played guitar since i was a kid and i'm nowhere near as good as some younger guys, but my goal isn't to be superior. it's to be good enough that i can convey my imagination with as much accuracy as possible. be it music or drawings, i think that's more important than anything else.
>>2359943
You're paying more attention to those above you than the millions and thousands you surpass by the virtue of your persistence. Every step you take brings you closer to the top of the pile of corpses.
>>2359947
i like this
>>2359945
what do you mean ape?
>>2359951
Sorry, slang. Copy from, imitate, usually somewhat clumsily. Effectively to study from, haha.
>>2359952
aah i see. well i've always been a fan of OGs stuff. but i can't see myself being able to imitate it and do any semblance of justice.
>>2359958
Don't be discouraged by that, imitation takes time but it's a rewarding way to learn and understand. If you have trouble with certain aspects, analyse what they are and work to expand your skillset to accommodate your goals. If you're down with faces I'd start with that, or maybe the gesture from more action heavy or dynamic scenes. Feel free to flat out copy certain images. Compare the more academic or standard way of doing things you're familiar with to the artist you like to get a feel for how they're abstracting, even. IE, a minimally/un stylized pair of lips or a nose compared to how OG approaches it.
Crit
Currently going through Keys to Drawing, Project 3-D is drawing a front view portrait, i didn't have a model so i went with a Lincoln ref. I still haven't touch Loomis so my construction is nonexistent (just watched some proko vids on eyes as you can see). I think I enjoy doing portraits, even if its something really basic and boring to most folks
>>2359692
Looks good mang, not so sure about those lines on the forehead tho, but its a WIP so i would have to see the finished work. Also that light on the left cheek in the beard area is kinda off, but nice job so far, I really want to get into color but I gotta grind a lot first
>>2359971
Yeah the whole beard is absolutely unfinished, I just quickly went over it with a beard brush so that I'd actually do the careful work later, includig lightig, erasing what I have done there. Thanks for the crit anon!
as far as i can see there are like, 3 ways to practice my drawing
1) working on some sort of "piece" from my imagination
2) practice exercises like anatomy, drawing 50 sets of hands, practicing perspective
3) studies where you copy someone else's work
how should i be dividing time between these 3?
>>2359991
Combine them all. Do 2 and/or 3 to prepare for a specific finished piece. A great deal of your time is going to be spent on drawings nobody will see that you do to improve, best to get in the habit of finishing things so you don't lose your will to continue.
>>2359993
thanks
Drew this from reference, should I post referance? Can you guys tell me how to improve and get better? I can't find any of the books you recommend so I also want to know if there are ayn alternatives to them as well.
The bottom row is examples of works i did before coming to /ic/ and everything else is examples of after coming to /ic/
What would best help me improve as an artist.
So far I believe adding perspective would help my figures and in some of the top left figures i try and do that. Most of the poses i do are from imagination. a couple of the ones are figure drawings tho.
Also I know hands and feet are a huge weakness of mine.
Is their a book that would help me with all aspects of this?
I literally don't know how to practice art other than to keep drawing but if i keep drawing incorrectly I won't draw correct one day right?
>>2359100
Did u just get the distance between segments at the proportion on perspective??
that part fked me up, didnt understand a thing
>>2360106
A sad example how /ic/ influences artists negatively.
There's no "correct", don't think about being correct. Remember to make something fun for you as you did before /ic/, now you are doing studies which while might be fun, will burn you out long term.
Try maybe going to one of your older drawings and try to redo it now/draw something similar and compare what you have learned.
Btw, I wouldn't focus now on feet or hands at this point, but as you said - drawing figure in perspective and keeping proportions. Focus on hips and waist area, top of figure seems to be disjointed from the top. It's most visible in your top left study, an upper part of the body seems to spring from a cushion that has leg and ass shape, not from actual body parts.
I like your drawings, you have lots of fun ideas and do pleasant designs. Please, don't lose them in /ic/.
t. total n00b much below your level
>>2359712
bro please tell me : how did you learn to draw digitally? by yourself or book/tutorial.
this shit took too many hours.
but i feel i did improved
>>2360128
I knew before how to divide it into segments. Scott Robertson explains it in a different manner in his how to draw book. I'm not that far in a book, and desu thinking about skipping a few illustrations and leave them for later time. The arcs of movement being what I'd like to skip for now.

it means that you do 20 gesture drawings on 30 seconds, then 20 drawings on 60 seconds, then 20 drawings on 90 seconds, then 20 drawings on 2 minutes and then 20 drawings on 5 minutes.
Gesture session of 30, 60, 90, 120 and 270 seconds each, 20 drawings each session.

i just follow the advice of Marshall Vandruff.
he says you need to be able to draw a cube with every angle to better your perspective skills, and other books say that you need to practice drawing boxes to be able to think 3d and to dismantle organic shapes into simpler forms.
TL;DR just practice drawing cubes and boxes at every angle until it becomes natural
>>2360609
noted, have a more clear layout on the shapes before rendering
>>2360682
Oh I get it. It is far from being comfortable for me to draw a cube from any angle. At most I can draw eh maybe 4-5 angles after that dead end :D Anyway, what books are there that do teach about 'cubes in various angles' ? >>2360144
By myself, and mostly by doing what I posted, basically. What you see is my first thing done digitally, previous to that and like I said earlier in this thread I sketched for like 8-10 days I think and with painting I did 1 failed painting as soon as I got my tablet, and one of those "1 layer only, full opacity" challenges for fun. I did watch some ctrl+paint videos to practice, but very few of them, and I've been exposed to digital artists on youtube for a couple years, however I never paid that much attention to their digital techniques. Another thing I should add is that, prior to having a tablet, my photoshop activities were basic pic editing for dumb stuff like profile pics or dank memes, etcetera, and the few digital paintings done with a mouse were in Paint Tool Sai. Now, if you're specifically asking for "draw digitally", I literally took my new tablet and made a canvas that was like 1500x2000, selected that round brush that has pen pressure and started fooling around to get comfortable sketching what I do in sketchbooks, which is not exactly Leonardo Dicaprio, because I'm doing him to get comfortable with painting not drawing.
I'd say try doing a study/copying a picture, experimenting, it's sort of working for me. And better yet: ask someone with more experience maybe they can help more, I don't think I'm that gud.
>>2360566
That looks a lot better!

>>2360752
Your lines are very decisive monsieur, is this good? is this bad? it simply IS monsieur. they scream 'alpha male!'. they scream 'THIS is what i believe in, THIS is who iam!' they scream 'i am a monsieur who stands by what he says!' hon hon
How do you practice patience? I swear I have this ridiculous urge to jump between like 4 different drawings lest I lose interest. It's really fucking up my progress.
>>2360959
Among other things yes, the arm is too short
I think pointing out individual flaws won't help you much at this stage though. I think your biggest problem is that you draw too quickly, drawing isn't supposed to be fast, it's supposed to be decisive and intelligent. You've got great gesture going there but you betray it with sloppy toning and draftsmanship. The stretched side of the body looks flat because there should be more bone structure showing
Slow down, draw things as they are properly, do your great gestural work some justice
How do I into shadows and cubes? Mine are gibbled as fuck
How can I make the fish look like they're inside the tank, not just glued on the side?

Part of it is just building the dexterity to get those nice clean, consistent lines to follow around the form. The cleaner and more consistent it is, the more the hatching will blend out of focus. If there's too much inconsistency you won't get the illusion of tone.
Practice practice practice. Slow and patient. Do a lot of studies and take your time to do it perfectly. If your dexterity is really bad work on the Peter Han stuff for a few weeks.

the struggle is real
>>2361236
Thanks m8 gonna watch that vid after shower.
>>2361243
yo remember that male hips are narrrower than females the one on that guy are way too wide.
How bad am I failing very basic anatomy/female body shape?
>>2361370
looks bad tom
you studied any books on the figure yet?
>>2361371
No senpai, I plan to sketch this as a before, then study loomis/anatomy and sketch another as an "after" shot.
>>2361370
>inb4 "needs more loomis" (though to be fair, you need more loomis. read the sticky.)
for starters, boobs are NOT balloons. you must understand basic anatomy before you draw stylistically and even then, balloon boobs are just gross. also, your torso is too short and the shoulders are too broad.
balloons are more of a teardrop shape (pic related). Watch this proko video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6wdDNnHRO4
and here's one from sycra on how to draw the female figure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=db86RFsURRI
good luck mate
>>2361384
I'd say he needs to into proportions before any of that shit dude.
>>2361384
Great info as always desu. Thx /ic/
I don't really get this thread.
Are you supposed to post your best drawings so people can see your progress?
Are you supposed to post your worse drawings so people ca give you criticism?
Are you supposed to post every single exercise and study you do so people give you feedback?
Dumb question I know but it really keeps me away from posting.
>>2361487
Post what's worth showing or you need help with. Get guidance, critique, insults and praise.
>>2358874
Just giving my 2 cents, because I did/do have some trouble with anatomy too.
I reccomend you anatomy for sculptors and Hampton like some anon said, I also suggest you to watch some of the early videos Sycra did on anatomy (shit on me, I don't give a fuck they're much better than his recent stuff.)
But yeah like that anon said, is not about learning the name of every muscle, you're good with the shape and where it attaches, also learn how it looks, Proko does a good explaniation on this on one of his videos (again, shit on me please)
>>2358881
Think of the eye as a sphere with a pair of lips, is a 3d shape and yours is too plain (aka symbols).
>>2359029
You need to soften it, but is looking good.
>>2359112
I can't see your line of action, work on those then define a general shape, remember to do simple strokes and not get caught onto details.
>>2359604
By the way you're drawing faces and your values I say focus on life drawing, you can learn to stylize later.
The thing that bothers me the most is how plain the female gesture is, so work on your gestures while at it.
>>2359774
Exagerate it a bit more so you can see the movement in a much better way, rember your line of action.
>>2359872
Too stiff, line of action.
>>2360095
Too much symbols, read the sticky my friend.
>>2360650
I say she's good but the silhouette is not clear, if anything.
>>2360719
Give it a second read because you're still not there, and try to draw on trad because your lines are a mess.
>>2361146
learn basic perspective first

nice crits gj bud
Youre the hero of B Thread
I started messing around with a brush pen I bought, decided to try a self-portrait. I know the perspective is kind of wonky and I'm symbol drawing in the face (I didn't draw big enough :/) Other major problems? Also, will I develop bad habits if I sketch with pencil and do cleaner line work after the fact?

Doing a portrait of someone I know, could definitely use some critique. Ignore the blanket... that was just me fooling around. I am focusing on the face. Will post my ref below, even though I used multiple images.
Main one I used for reference. For angle I used a different picture but this will do for now. Off to bed, will read in the morning.

Why the fuck does Hamm get shilled around here as some sort of sticky meme alternative? What does he have to offer that other meme authors don't?

Look dude, you didn't get anything out of hampton, it looks like you skipped the gesture part along with anything else of worth. Get better lines, too. Chickenscratch is never clear or acceptable, even in the sketch stage. You've basically said "I won't resolve any of the issues with my piece, but crit pls?".
>>2361845

>hampton anatomy book
are you guys talking about his figure drawing book? Maybe i didn't look hard enough but this is what was in the /ic/ mega folder and is what i get when i google "hampton anatomy"
>>2359650
haha
>>2361673
you have some symbolic drawing you need to work on
>>2361784
hampton is just another guide for figure drawing , who happen to explain in a different way
in the end, they are all the same fundamentals
so pick a book and just go through with it
>>2361845
as others anons mentioned.
your figure look stiff and undynamic
so you need to practice getting gesture before adding anything else
beside that i think you should focus on your lines and form first.
read more about how to draw from the shoulder and planning your lines
and try to draw 3D shapes so you get the "feel" of 3D in your drawings
>>2361870
i'm not him, but do u say tablets are in particolar useful to solve chicken scratches? How? It's a massive problem to me
>>2361950
I'm assuming he means that stabilizers and the ability to zoom in and out as well as to fix errors leaves no excuse to be a chicken scratching fagboi.
What do people mean by construct?
>>2361966
The usage of basic three dimensional forms during the first or second stage of a drawing to give a sense of the subject occupying three dimensional space and ease the process of rendering.
First time actually posting here, so I might not be doing it right. I apologize in advance.
Here's something I just drew up, I was trying to make it cartoony but I don't know what is wrong/ what I should add to it.
I looked at the sticky and I've tried to copy a the style of a few cartoon's...but yeah.
I'm thankful for any advice and If i'm posting this is the wrong place, just say where I should be posting. Thanks.
hey /ic/,what are my major f-ups here?
>>2361976
Stop jerking off while drawing. You can literally see the speed lines from your furious masturbation on the paper
>>2361976
Everything. The figure is drifting to the left, you rushed the entire thing, its not a full figure, chicken scratching, shading is in the wrong spots, completely wrong proportions (compate the lengths of left and right shoulders)
I could go on but you get the point. Read sticky and start with basic shapes
>>2361981
>Stop jerking off while drawing.
never ever
thanks guys, didn t even know cross hatching was a thing, gonna go work on dat sticky
>>2361952
yeah probably, i'm afraid no black magic is involved
I'm doing the dissection exercise from drawabox
how i do so far
>>2362078
what
If you want i can dump some screenshots from a historical TV series
>>2362078
draw the shape of the object first then add the texture over it
How is this?
>>2361976
Check out some videos by Vilppu, you have to feel the form while drawing. That helped me alot and I used to do the thoughtless shading like you do.
>>2362253
That back is weird for one thing
I don't have any real materials so I've just bee going around with my book and a mechanical pencil. I usually just grab pictures off of different boards and try to copy them onto paper.
Here's some highlights from December
>>2362277
Hmm yeah I can see that, the whole figure is skewed... It looked like the easiest ref and it was the hardest to do, the way she sort of twisted her shoulders idk how to capture that.
>>2362253

Symbol drawing at its worst. Read the sticky
I just started Keys to Drawing, and my expectations going in were so low that I'm actually kind of proud of this.
Feel free to rid me of this notion, though.
Where can I find ref for cuddling
>Get frustrated with gesture drawing
>Don't practice it for about a week
>Instead, learn more about shapes and practice the very basic of anatomy
>Suddenly, gesture drawings are a lot better
I guess Vilppu was right. The more you know about anatomy the better.
>>2362459
It makes a huge difference. I always cringe a little when people recommend gesture to complete beginners because it's just frustrating and hardly teaches anything. You need to have some knowledge to apply in order to capture gestures well. Going with your gut when you have no baseline knowledge is just a bad idea.
>>2362462
Yea. Basically, I kept questioning a lot of things. Like why certain lines were drawn the way they were. After reading up on Hampton's books and Anatomy for the Sculp, now when I see, say, Proko's gesture drawings, it makes sense why he makes those lines.
Gesture drawing before, I couldn't even make a solid figure with basic lines in 1 minute cause I kept "thinking" about it. Now I can get a very simplified version and can add very minor details without even worrying.
