i take a ride in the "self-promotion" thread and just "stalk" all the "artists" in the replies but i just found this in one.

The portrait pic is obviouslly a more detailed work, not perfect but is more complex and the artist dont get any like/reblog.

then the second thing, is like he just put the wacom pencil in his ass and start scratching in the tablet and he got 11 "notes (not a big number, i know)

why this happen? is this easy "sucess" as artist? just drawing shitty porn for normie people?
>>
>>2349215
yes
>>
>>2349215
fanart by default gets more likes, because the audience is greater. see the #Slpatoon hashtag? people will like it just because they like the character, not the drawing.
>>
>>2349215
>>2349220
yes

There is a wider audience for drawn porn then there is for drawn faces.

Being good is great but being popular makes you more money.
>>
>>2349223
it's not even the porn content that makes it, just the character.
>>
>>2349215
the portrait is from someone not famous and not particularly good, the one on the right has anime tiddies and a recognizable character
>>
Doesn't have to be porn, my fanarts are way more popular than my other stuffs.

Didn't try notfanart porn though, but should work as well I guess.

Anyway, best way to create a fanbase is doing fanarts.
>>
>>2349215
Is this really still surprising? How long have you been alive?
>>
>>2349215
Nobody cares about you or what you do, they only care about the character so it isn't you getting the praise and adoration it is the character in which you work for. Don't get this confused now.
>>
>>2349215
Because he drew best sister.
>>
>>2349246
Yet tagged her as worst sister.
>>
>>2349215
Drawing what other people likes can guarantee more likes than the later ones. Why? People have motives, they like it because they like it in the first place like what this >>2349222 anon said.

Either it's just so-so or good it doesn't matter as long it still not dropped in shit zone. Sometimes, they don't really care whether if it's sucks on terms of art discipline or whatever you call it. If they see it as a good thing in first impression, they will most likely like it till the end. Fun fact, if that shitty porn for normies happened to gain a lot of likes, it will attract more people from their own kind to swarm it with likes, notes, praises, share, comments, whatever. This growth happen exponentially until no more audience can be garnered because that shitty normie porn have reached all possible audience it can reach.

Want to garner likes and gain large impression on internet? Hop into something in right now, create a fanart, variation or tributes, post it.

On the left side we can see a boring and not very original attempt at being a human photocopier.
On the right side we can see creative interpretation of his fantasies made in a style that's capable of exaggerating the most important features of the character.

Mindless realism is passé, and even normies realize that.
>>
>>2349279
this
I respect artists able to draw in a realistic style without reference, but drawing realistically just for the sake of realism shouldn't even be considered art.

You don't get likes/reblogs for effort, you get likes/reblogs for something someone either likes or wants to share.
Not many people go to tumblr to see semi-realistic portraits of people's ex girlfriends. Why should they? Why would they care? The only people I can think of that would actively look for unknown but nicely done art for the sake of the skill involved are other artists and possibly a niche audience of art enthusiasts. Most will go to tumblr, check their splatoon tag or their smut tag or whatever. People who like splatoon will follow "x splatoon blog" and then if "x splatoon blog" checks the splatoon tag for their daily upload of whatever, and reblog yours, you've just shown up on the dash of all their followers. It's that simple.

Part of getting attention as an artist is doing things people pay attention to. If you want to be purely all about your own artistic vision that's fine, just don't get buttmad when you realize most the world doesn't care about your artistic vision or how long it took you to make something. You can still have the penny and the bun by doing a mix of personal work and fan-art. Your personal work won't get the same attention anyway, but you can still get a proportion of followers who came for the fan-art and decided they liked the rest of your stuff too.

>literally copying what you see is impressive
>>
>>2349302

>it has to be impressive to be defined as art

Not to mention it's impressive to a lot of people, otherwise human photocopiers wouldn't be popular.

It may come as a shock but generally other artists aren't the target audience for artists.

Sakimichan doesn't get so much money on patreon because of fanart.
She get money because of her tutorials.
>>
>>2349324

I don't think you know what generally means, obviously someone acting as an instructor will target artists. I think it's debatable how much of a selling point the tutorials are but either way.
Even then, the people watching Sakimichan's tutorials, I'm willing to bet, are largely beginners who saw her art and want to learn to draw like her.
Unless your goal is to instruct or be instructed, generally your audience will be non-artists looking for cool shit.
>>
>>2349324
>She get money because of her tutorials.

No she doesn't. Or she would be only doing them.
>>
>>2349347
You clearly don't know how advertising works.
>>
>>2349215
Are you stupid? The one on the right is obviously a far better drawing than the terrible portrait on the left. Rendering doesn't make a shit drawing look better.
>>
>>2349347
No, you get more money by showing someone an amazing product then pretending to tell them how to do it.
>>
>>2349527
I wouldn't say that a shit doodle like that is 'far better drawing' than anything
>>
>>2349695
Its far better than anything you've ever drawn :^)
>>
>>2349697
I'm pretty sure your mom said you liked it ;^)
>>

uhm the one on the right is objectively done better

Not gonna make it.

>What is a craftsman
An impressive craftsman, but not an artist.
>>
>>2349215
can't you see the right one looks more lively? It's just a better picture in the sense it conveys some sort of emotion. The portrait is dull, technically unimpressive and unfinished.

>Random portrait vs fanart with the momentum of a franchise behind it.

If you want likes on a portrait, draw this guy
>>
>>2349215
Well the person in the pic does a cartoon style better than a realistic style. So for what each pic strives to do, the cartoon pic hits closer to the mark.
