What would you guys consider the essential brushes to have for photoshop for texture and general painting? It seems the default brushes are pretty awful, but there are so many online it's difficult to set aside which ones are actually useful for painting.
Perhaps it's to tall an order. Is this just something you fuck around with till you find what works?
Don't we have a questions thread?
The default brushes aren't really that bad. You've probably heard this before but, it's not the brush that really matters, but your actual artistic ability. If you're basically a beginner, stick to round brushes for the time being.

Not really a beginner, just had to switch softwares seeing as sai doesn't really give you the brush options you need to simulate the movements when working with traditional mediums.
Also, I expected the topic of brush sharing to be a bit bigger than something that would belong in a general question thread.

Just use a set from a big name pro. Jaime Jones, Min Yum, and Whit Brachna all have solid sets that are pretty much classics.
I'd say:
>consider what you think you need, or what could make your process faster and easier without losing quality
>look for brushes that seem useful based on whatever criteria you establish
>try them out
>discard what doesn't actually work well for you
And repeat. I don't use PS so I can't give you any specific recommendations, sorry.
