I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles X and realized how little creative most people are when it comes to designing aliens.

Don't forget, aliens or really any designs you see in commercial products have other motives besides creativity, they're trying to turn a profit. A big game studio would rather "play it safe" and just give you snake tits than allow an artist to create a truly unique looking design and risk it being lost on the viewer. The average consumer and pencil pusher at a company like what's familiar, people who want something really different is niche by comparison. If you want to see that kind of thing though, you could probably find it better on tumblr or patreon, places where artists have more freedom.

The average person is 7.5 heads tall and the ideal is 8 heads tall. I've been checking several porn artists and most draw adult women at around 7 heads tall; that is, lower than average rather than higher.
I guess this is because rather than wanting to depict an imposing figure most want to draw women with neoteny (child-like) features. Is that right?

What do you mean by "good"? Good enough to start selling my stuff? I thought I was good enough 5 years ago already. And I actually started making a living off of it. Then after 2 years of complacent stagnation I discovered porn comics and how hard it was to create more demanding content. In 2-3 years I improved more than I did in the past 10 since I started drawing more seriously.
So to answer your question more broadly. How much time do anyone needs to get good? There's no universal answer imo. It simply depends on how much are you willing to devote yourself to get better based on your talent. And by devotion I mean trying to get out of your comfort zone by drawing stuff you might find impossible to draw at your current level.

I'd be cool if we started a foot thread, dedicated to getting better at drawing feet, but I doubt people would respond well to that. Too often do people ignore things like how the toes bend, and how they conform to the ground they're standing on top of. I guess not everyone agrees with me on this, but I heavily believe in order to draw well, stylized or not, you have to be able to draw realism, to some degree at least. From there you can exaggerate features and play around with proportions, as it'll still be based on fundamental knowledge you get when drawing from life, learning anatomy, still life and the like.
There are a lot of shortcuts you're free to take, like keeping your anatomy knowledge on a level where you can block out of a human's primary muscle groups in simple shapes. But skipping fundamentals, anatomy, perspective and just everything that isn't included in cartoony/anime drawing you'll always have trouble creating anything interesting, atleast from what I've seen.
Pieces don't have to be very complicated, but basic fundamental knowledge applied can really carry you a lot further very quickly. Picture related from an /a/ drawfag - it's simple but I really like it just because of the interesting angle, it's nothing advanced, but obviously something that's been studied outside of the artists interest in drawing cute anime girls.
